Bit of a story here Dan. I got my first Pi, a Pi2 B+ a few years ago with the express purpose of Amiga emulation. I have owned almost every Amiga model under the sun, and wouldn't be caught dead giving Cloanto a penny for work done in the 80's and early 90's by Commodore. If he/they eventually take over the development responsibility for the successors of AmigaOS 3.1.4 from Hyperion and actively carry that project forward, then of course I would fund such development and exclusively purchase those Roms.
@another39974 жыл бұрын
@@uberdude2555 We get it, you want stuff for free, because historically, you once owned Amigas, and therefore you feel entitled to the Kickstart Roms. Despite the fact that you sold them or gave them away, you still have the right to do what you want? Quite legally, Cloanto has paid money to OWN the rights to that Rom code and can do whatever they wish with it. Do you apply the same logic to the new owners of your previous cars, houses and anything else you once owned? You just go and help yourself when you feel like it? It's old, outdated stuff, so it should be given away freely? Tell that to the owners of anything antique... see what response you get. Your sense of entitlement is misplaced. If you want to use something, have the decency to not steal it.
@tahustvedt4 жыл бұрын
@@another3997 The previously owned cars point is absurd. It's the kind of argument the movie industry uses against copying software. I bought a 3.1 Kickrom license for my A500 with a pre-flashed EPROM, but I don't think it's great that someone bought the rights to sell them today when the alternative would be perfectly acceptable abandonware downloads. They don't even have an easy way to buy more licenses online. You have to buy an OS or buy pre-flashed EPROMs from a vendor. I just want the license because I can flash my own. I bet you have pirated games on your Amiga. If you were around back when you probably pirated games then as well. If you didn't you were very out of the ordinary.

I was so impressed with this tutorial that I ordered an Rpi 400 from OKdo 3 days ago, turned up this morning. Couldn't find any microSD cards spare so I thought I'd take a crack at using the official Rpi Imager to flash RetroPie to a USB flash drive instead. That worked. Thought I'd try and boot from it without doing a firmware update, figuring as the official docs said you need something after August 2020 and it's about 3 weeks old. That also worked. I haven't had a chance to put ROMs and things on yet but my trusty wired Xbox 360 controller was as plug and play as Dan's tutorial led me to believe, so I'm impressed that the whole thing works substituting a microSD for a USB device straight out of the box. Good work all round really! Just thought this might help people wondering about picking one up, and I'd say between this and LibreELEC soon to be updated for a good Kodi build (and potentially an easy way to dual boot with the USB and microSD as viable boot devices) you've got a stunning little multimedia device for, in my case, a shade over £65 with free delivery as I already had all the other gubbins lying around for power, a mouse etc. P.S. although you can enter the WiFi SSID etc with the gamepad... just don't. With the kind of default case-changing alphanumeric gibberish ISPs set by default it's not fun. 😂

When I set up my retropie. I used a usb drive with a few folders set up in win 10 (instructions are on the official retropie website). You then insert the drive into the pi and it creates all the rom folders. You then transfer your roms into the relevant folders and reinsert it into the pi. It will autoput all your roms in the right place. Bit easier than messing around with the command line.

Today I simply downloaded and compiled Amiberry using the RPi400 and 64-bit beta Raspberry OS. It works without any problem. To have a good emulation and smooth scrolls the best way is to define the resolution for Xrandr (1008x560@50Hz) so it is equal the emulated resolution and make a script which sets the desired resolution, calls the emulator and after that restores the native resolution of the monitor. No screen stuttering and distorted Amiga pixels anymore :)

I didn't have to use retropie. I just wrote Pimiga 2.0 directly to the SD card and it booted up with no problems. Well, I had to copy Kickstart on boot but, it worked. I also found a way to extract the WHD file and run it directly from WinUAE in Windows. Just in case you didn't have a Raspberry Pi 4. I had to use my linux laptop to access the main partition, but it worked.

Is it normal that the workbench 1.3 desktop screen goes totally blue showing absolutely nothing if untouched for a couple minutes? If so how to revert to the desktop? does anyone here know?

After watchingvthis mine arrived yesterday. You can set up retro pie from the pi400 itself. Much simpler than using windows. Does the os that came with yours run very slowly? My mouse is a second behind the movement which I'm surprised at with a quad core CPU with 4gb ram.

Looks like an interesting solution. But when it comes to to PAL emulation, will it be possible to achieve a full 50hz video sync? I fear not...

James Pond 2 (Robocod) was definitely running in PAL. :)

So you download all 5 files, extract the first archive with 7 zip then burn that disk image to the sd card? Does it auto use the other 4 files?

Pimiga is great but it is worth pointing out that several files are infected with the "Happy New Year 96" virus, so be sure to use the included Amiga antivirus tools first on the image to scan and get rid of them. Start with the system files first because when first booted into Workbench it will be resident in memory and will infect other files that you open...

Is Amiberry multitasking or just for single game playing, I am using pimiga on my pi400 and if I try to play Shanghai and play music at the same time,the music shuts off, but on FS-uae it works great and I can run several programs at once like organizer, DM2, Shanghai, pen pal for data processing or writing. Now I notice with pimiga pen pal works but you get a bland center screen where the data should be, but if you click in that center screen the data pops up. Just wondering if amiberry is multi tasking like FS-uae, only thing I don't like about FS-uae it don't start the Amiga right off, but everything else works great.

I've done exactly as you said and showed and for every game from WHDLoad I get a white screen and it seems like RaspberryPi has crashed or something. It's not clear what are you doing with the .lha files: it seems like you just downloaded them from the site but then you're saying something about originals that one needs them and finally from nowhere you're copying larger .lha files than the ones published on WHDLoad. Could you explain, please, how did you prepare your .lha files?

Hi can anyone help? I've just purchased a Pi 400 with pi Amiga SD Card. How do you set up usb (snes style) pad on it? I press F12 goto input setting but no mapping options? Could you possibly do a USB pad set up video to set up USB pad in winuae on the Pi 400?

Hi Dan, I have just bought the Amiga Forever essentials pack from the Google Play store, to hopefully run Pimiga on my Pi3b. I noticed that the essentials pack only has roms from 1.2 - 3.1; are these enough to run Pimiga 1.2?

I tried emulating Amiga stuff on my upper mid range gaming PC, R5 3600 and 5700XT. I'm an American who only knows of the Amiga hardly. I got two games working lol. Just wanted to try Zool... Guess I'll try the Genesis/MD version lol.
