4K will kill any computer or laptop. You can right click on clips in your media library and make proxies from them. That will help the videos play better in the timeline. Then go to your preview window, right click and choose the output format to be 720p. Let the timeline play for a few seconds and hopefully you can edit with less lag

The Lightworks software directs you here kzbin.info/www/bejne/qniwgKV8acmojJo, which is also a good place to start. However, that tutorial skips effects completely. I'm glad you included the two most important effects for someone just needing to do a one off video. That being a fade in and out title, and fading transitions between clips. Also the shortening of a clip amidst other clips was a handy tip at the end. I consider the free version of Lightworks more a free trial then something you would use for your published project, as the 720p limit is a deal breaker nowadays.

I have no idea what the 2021 version of LWKs is like but if it's anything like earlier version it's the most cack-handed, convoluted, bug-ridden software I've ever used for anything. The problems I had with V14 were horrendous. It got to the point where I was afraid to click the mouse for fear of another crash losing all the work. What irked me more than anything was the so-called forum 'help'. As far as they were concerned it was NEVER the software at fault; always my computer or my hardware - despite trying it on three different spec laptops. Strangely enough, all the faults that were supposedly down to my computer appeared as 'bug-fixes' in the PDF they released with updated versions of LWKs. So it wasn't my computer at fault in the end after all. I did myself a massive favour by switching to Vegas Pro. Never crashes, works on any ol' laptop within reason and is far more intuitive. I write this not out of spite but to save anyone going though the same hassle i went through.
@techismad3 жыл бұрын
It's a dilemma - Lightworks will work on the lowest spec laptop you can buy, but for that you do have to put up with the problems. To this day I really don't like the interface, or the click on/off system for editing clips.

Edit: the mp4 file type seems to distort sound when added to Lightworks. not sure what I'm doing wrong, I record the game play with obs making sure the file type is set to mp4. the finished video before editing sounds fine, but in lightworks it sounds distorted/robotic.
