if i am not mistaken, for am5 u dont replace backplate. u use the default am5 backplate. though you still need to swap out the front side rail m ounts (if thats what they are called).

@@TechLegend-com i just installed my new noctua fan for 4u nas case. manual says am5 default backplate. was easy install :} also the bracket came with the offset which i used for the ryzen 7600 cpu.

hello, thanks for sharing... I have a question. I own a i5-12400 (65w tdp), with the cooler can I use it without a fan?... I want a kind of silent build and I dont want to go for the NH-P1, find it too big!!!

Not really, you can create a fan curve to keep the fan at a low RPM and get almost no noise.

@@TechLegend-com I did testing... with the fan off, the cpu never goes above 42c on normal task, like web browsing file zip and unzipping. so I set the fan curve for the fan only be activated at 60c.... rest of the time is off... I have 2 Phanteks T30 -1 intake and 1 exhaust at 750rpm, on Techware Fusion case wich is full ventilated with 4 mesh panels-. eveything is dead silent!!I did testing... with the fan off, the cpu never goes above 42c on normal task, like web browsing file zip and unzipping. so I set the fan curve for the fan only be activated at 60c.... rest of the time is off... Low and medium TDP CPUs will be fine.

What amaze me in the test is that noctua nh-c14s outperforms this cooler. Totally not worth "upgrade" for me then.

The NH-C14S is louder and has worse clearance overall. I think that each cooler has a different purpose. The NH-U12A is still looking like the best option for good clearance and performance.

@@TechLegend-com clearance is no issue im interested more about the performance. Noctua rates nh-d12l better for r7 5800x3 than nh-c14s but your test show othervice. Mean have atm r7 3800x with nh-d12l and it performs pretty good with allcore pbo overclock @4.4. thinking thou would nh-12l truly better performance with decent fan speed

@@user-eq2fp6jw4g It's a lot of variables to take into consideration. Some CPU coolers perform better on some CPUs while other are louder but also better temp wise. I'd say that the best compromise if you want performance and clearance is the NH-U12A.

waste of money buying a noise free and small instead of a cpu cooler that is larger and noisier haha what? I dont understand the logic here
