Thanks Fredrik, your video was what inspired me to look into sidemounting and Steve Martin's training. I just returned from a week in Gozo by Steve Martin, Audrey Cudel and Vas Proud. Definitely worth it. Been watching the video material to prepare for it. The Gozo course was challenging but I'm definitely hooked on sidemounting now. Their focus on fixing bad habits and teaching new propulsion techniques, better buoyancy and trim, proper dive planning, etc. have definitely made me a better diver. I loved it.

Both your videos are awesome. I started looking for a sidemount course and found this video. Then I watched your cave dive training. That's looks like it was amazing. Now I'm excitedly looking at Steve Martin's site. He's not cheap but appears to be a good teacher and I much prefer that over some cheap course in Thailand.

you should get acces to his vids at his page....His videos convinced me to go into Sidemount config instead of wing/backmount

whats with the bromance at 11 minutes, the sharing of the regulators?
@riccmy3354
@riccmy3354 3 жыл бұрын
I wanted to ask if you also put the 90 ° bend in the tube to recognize the left cylinder, so you understand which regulator you are using. I put it in both regulators because it is more comfortable.
@FredrikLiljeblad

That's actually one of the identifiers and it's more comfy + the neck bungee on left also. Breakaway on the right.

Those are some pretty hefty dive times, what's in the cylinders - trimix?
@FredrikLiljeblad
@FredrikLiljeblad 3 жыл бұрын
Just air actually. I remember getting a bit unfocused during the deeper dives. 🥴 Trimix would have helped, but I didn't have the certification for that then.

hello nice vid :) ,,, are you guys using too much air in your BC ,, or its the Xdeep System ?
@FredrikLiljeblad
@FredrikLiljeblad 8 жыл бұрын
We might have had a little bit too much weight. But not by much. When doing a deco dive you don't want to be a little bit too light, as that could be very dangerous. So is being too heavy.
@FredrikLiljeblad
@FredrikLiljeblad 8 жыл бұрын
+sulaiman al When the cylinders are full, you need a bit more air in the BC as they are a bit heavier.
@rixogtr
@rixogtr 6 жыл бұрын
so its with steel tanks its better to start with few weights over normal for compensate weight at the end of dive with empty cylinder ?
@Yggdrasil42
@Yggdrasil42 6 жыл бұрын
Not really, steel tanks stay negative even when nearly empty. Alu tanks become slightly positively buoyant so you need a bit more weight to compensate.

why are you diving with Octos as primary second stages?
@FredrikLiljeblad
@FredrikLiljeblad 7 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Dunne It's a bit different with sidemount. You use two completely separated cylinders with one first stage and one second stage +spg on each. You switch between the two when there is more than 20 bars difference. With that procedure you keep the usage roughly the same on both. Most have a 2m hose on the right cylinder in case someone else would need air quickly. So that would sort of be the equivalent of the octo. Thanks to the redundancy it's not likely that you would end up in an emergency in the same way as if you had only one cylinder. If one would fail somehow, you just switch to the other, and do a controlled surface safely.

It is just that the old apeks sidemount kit design is with the yellow line, they are not octopus. They changed it since then.
@rixogtr
@rixogtr 6 жыл бұрын
Octopus is mostly used in recreational "regular" backmount single cylinder configuration, isnt it ?

Haha Do people actually get this excited over a different way to configure your cylinders? I'd get it if it was "Epic technical diving video" or something but just sidemount? C'mon, dude you're just diving! It's like "Epic shoulder-bag video" but the activity is transiting to college.
@FredrikLiljeblad
@FredrikLiljeblad 8 жыл бұрын
+ParkourEh lol, nah. For me at that time in my diving development that trip was an epic change, going from single cyl backmount, doing the sidemount training, advanced nitrix and deco procedures, and touching base on the cave training (That I did a couple of months later. There's a video of that too). If I wouldn't have done the sidemount I would never have done the cave later on, and the caves I'm doing now is sometimes sidemount only. So to answer your question, for me this was an Epic moment, and I did a video of it, and it changed everything for me, and it wasn't just like another "shoulder bag". If you have a cooler video please share the video, I would love to watch it.

I dont think they are "just diving". They learning new stuff, everyone would be happy if learned something new. Imagine you just learned manual wheelie on bike, you would have smile all over your face, wouldnt you ? And for others it can by "just cycling"
