Here is Part 3 of my Double Enders Series called „Alternative Boat Jumps”.
If you decide to watch it, please make sure you have watched Part 2 of the series as Part 3 is a suplement to the previous episode.
Chapter 1 deals with jumping in with both cylinders attached to the harness with double enders. Both inflator hoses are connected and LP hoses routed around the neck. The cylinder boltsnaps are NOT attached neither are the bungee loops. This allows more freedom of movement while walking plus you can put your fins on just prior to the jump. This is one of my favourite ways, to be honest.
Once in the water I either complete the attachment still being on the surface in the way shown or in case I want to descend directly I can easily do it under water. Thanks to the double enders my hands are free to carry out the task. In the video I have deliberately inserted footage from Egypt (salt water) and my quarry (fresh water) so that you can see the difference in the alu cylinders conduct. Still a well trained diver should not have problems with diving even with the cylinders vertical until he/she completes the attachment.
Chapter 2 deals with the left cylinder attached the way shown in chapter 1 but the right cylinder is only hooked to the right shoulder d-ring with a double ender. This is the way I use when I do not wish to waste time on the boat for the right cylinder attachment. Again, to complete the donning and hose connection you can either do it on the surface of the water or in mid-water. (but this time dry suit divers mind you!!! your dry suit is not powered so stay at a reasonable depth). FYI in order to shorten the video length I cut the part of connecting the left but obviously, it was shown in Chapter 2.
It needs to be said that both ways from both chapters work perfect on small boats and ribs. You can even put the cylinders on your lap!:).
I hope this will come in handy and I wish you all safe dives.
Regards
Michur.

As a new sidemounter this series of videos is awesome! Must have watched a good 5 times now. Thanks for taking the time to make them and help us all out. More soon hopefully.

Shiiat! This is the only video in the world that shows how to don sidemount using different methods (except the paid version of Steve Marty). I also like the right hose arrangement which makes it easy to deploy when ready. Thanks @tmichura for sharing this and all the "how to" videos. I picked up a lot from them. Keep them coming.

Very impressed to your video I think you tied the double snap bolt with string, which is connect the between tank and D-ring. Can I know how to make it? Thank you

My question is what happens when those aluminum eighties are empty and are floating like corks
@tmichura
@tmichura Жыл бұрын
Let me think... when they are empty it is better not jump into the water unless you are asking me what happens when they get empty under water while you are diving them. As far as my knowledge goes when they are empty you have no gas to breathe and need to surface or you drown.

It definitely isn't. Sidemount was born out of necessity in cave diving. That's it becoming more common in open water diving means it's become mature. Like any configuration, you can make it look easy or hard. A good instructor really helps in my experience, but no one is forcing you to hire one. Do it yourself if you prefer.

Side mount is DEFINITELY so much easier and such a “tighter” configuration of equipment. It’s why most sidemount divers ONLY use BM when they have to, such as teaching an open water or recreational certification class because that’s what the students are in...

@@Yggdrasil42 it's definitely not common in open water diving and completely unnecessary. Very useful in a *certain* cave environments, but we don't jump off boats into caves.

Well done video, but I don't see the point in side-mounting on a boat. I rarely see it happen and when it does happen (typically smaller cylinders for CCR) all of the cylinders are already attached and the bands are put in on during the descend. There's no time to futz around with gear near the surface when you're hot dropping onto a wreck, at least for a technical dive. If the goal is to see a reef, well... then side-mount is completely unnecessary. It's really a specialized tool used in cave diving, but the fad has spread everywhere. BM doubles are better for those who aren't doing penetrations requiring full bottle dismount (these are super advanced and the most extreme of dives).
