I love Linear tracking turntables. I had an old Technics that had memory buttons that would select the track number. I recently purchased another one. The new one is an Onkyo PL25F and it is kinda rare as I have trouble getting any info on it. I purchased it broken. I figured out that it had a bad ground wire and a bad stylus belt. After fixing the ground and belt it works perfectly. I love saving vintage equipment. If it is broken I still buy it and fix it.

I have an SL-7, same vintage I tried turning the pulley and it can advance but the tone arm motor was not going. Maybe I will try to turn it and see if I can get it to unstuck as you mentioned. I did acquired a SL-J11 and just need to change the tone arm belt and platter belt. The nice thing about this and SL-7 is that the record clam make it so that even if you put it on top of the spkrs and it still play pretty well without much resonance

I've had three SL7s (gave two of them to friends). Sounds good with a Grado Gold in my bedroom system.

Hi-My name is Warren and I want to thank u for this video. My brother-in-law (thru a friend) found a Technics SL-J33 and it was mint! His friend said he would sell it to bro-in-law for $75.00! I grabbed it. LOVE IT! Yest. I ordered an Aud-Tech. AT-311EP cart. I was really int. In your stands. You answered that . So I just need to look for them. Great video! Thx.

I have to say that I have enjoyed both Ottavio's and also this video on the linear tracking turntables. Well done. I was telling O that I have a crappy Optimus linear that is not even worth talking about. I do not know where I got it but for the nostalgic part of the whole thing I kept it and will play some older crappier records on it someday in the future. I guess it will look good in my still unfinished music room in the cellar. Thank you Mark, the Frampton PD looks superb. Rob/Boston

I have always been in awe of the Denon DP 59L. I have the DP 60L which is more of a manual turntable. I love it but there is always room for the 59L. If you ever decide to sell, pleeeaaaasee let me know. thatnks for your comments!

I would encourage you to do more turntable videos. The ultimate for myself and other VC members would be to see you start from scratch on a unoperatable table that you may find at a local Goodwill for ten dollars. Just seeing the inside mechanics would be fascinating to me because I am clueless when it comes to any turntables. I can build a PC tower but to fix audio equiptment like yourself, Lj, Ottavio and also John {punktexas} would please me very much. Thanks Mark, I love these posts~ Rob

Can you spell the printer stands you were talking about at 10:33?
@Paneeks196012 жыл бұрын
I will show my Optimus when I post my next video. Mark wants me to show my Technics 200 when I get that fixed too. I have almost got enough change put aside to buy a new ProJect. I know that there are all different opinions on new turntables but that arcylic platters are just so damn nice.The Pro-Ject Debut III Esprit is stunning and I keep picturing it in my room. I would love both of your opinions on these. I am heading to the shores now/late today. The endless summer continues O)). Rob

My SL-Q6 won't consistently go to the end of the record. Any idea about why that might happen?
@Paneeks196012 жыл бұрын
I forgot to answer this question. I do not have my turntable up and running yet. My brother is looking at it for me because he knows a bit more than I do regarding turntables and some audio equipment. I am getting discouraged Mark because it is so beat. I am probably going to purchase the Pro-Ject finally. I have all the money put aside. I just have to choose the coolest model. I just sent you a PM on them. Thanks again~ Rob

I still have my SL-DL5 from when I was a kid. I have 2 now, I bought an extra off ebay just to have an extra but mostly to get the ground cable that I lost. Only paid like 20 bucks for the extra around 2001. When I was a kid, I dreamed of having a SL-10 or SL-15. I still have all the little Technics catalogs from that era from all different years. I also had a SA-410 receiver and 228 tape deck by Technics and Pioneer speakers. Got it all from Silo when I was like 11 or 12

I've checked out needle doctor on many occasions and like yourself, have yet to buy anything from them. I almost always buy my cartridges on ebay because if you look long and hard enough, eventually you will find a deal so you can keep both your arm and your leg. $40 was an absolute steal for that unit of yours!

Thanks Rob. I love vintage gear just as much as I love records, and like Ottavio said, there is a kind of pride in taking something that's almost worthless and getting it back up to snuff. I may do some more gear videos but for a long while I haven't come across anything at the thrift stores. It seems that they've really dried up when it comes to any kind of old audio gear. BTW, have you got your old school Technics up and running yet?

Thanks, I had a SL10 in high school in 1980, it was fun back then, particularly showing off that its works upside down.

Who is ottavio? Would like to see his video
@beninski70712 жыл бұрын
2nd question first. There is a built in record clamp on the lid which holds the record in place. 1st question. From the way I had it sitting in the video (on it's back end) no, it can't be loaded without laying flat first. It would be possible though if sitting on it's front end but a little inconvenient because the lid would be flipping up instead of down, making the platter a little more difficult to access.

I love odd stereo gear and gear videos in general, I'll add my Optonica BSLT turntable video as a video responce.

That was a good deal, it was sold for being an old record player, not for what it actually is. The SL-10 is way better than my SL-6, but I have a lot of fun with mine too. And the nice thing is I actually bought one in the eighties, and recently bought another one for 30 euro:). But my SL-6 is programmable and allows to skip tracks!

I have a technics sl-10 could you tell me how do I change cartridge not sure how to do this thank you
@moochincrawdad11 жыл бұрын
On the left hand side of the tonearm just below the cartridge you'll see a screw, remove it with a suitably sized screwdriver then you should be able to gently pull the cartridge from the tonearm.
@MsToombsie9 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm wondering if you can help me. I have this unit and it works but it seems that every time I get half way through one side of a record it begins to skip. It doesn't matter the record so it must be the record player. Any suggestions as to what it might be or how to fix it would be greatly appreciated,

The rail that the arm assembly moves on probably needs lubrication. If it's not that, the belt that drives the arm assembly might be slipping.

Peel off the decal strip running along the top of the sheet, then remove countersunk posidrive screws that live underneath.

I still have my SL-10 Linear Tracking turntable. I bought it in the 70s for $270. I wish I would have bought the SL-15, which can be programmed. Also have other Technics products like the ST-G7 tuner!

Do you have a ground wire on your turntable?
@beninski7078 жыл бұрын
No, In my opinion, it doesn't need one as there is no hum or feedback to the speakers. I know the original hookup cables supplied to this model included a special grounding feature.

hi do you know where i can buy the stands like the ones you have. what did you say they were made from. some kind of computer stand ?.. i have a Technics SL-J2 . wonderful player. i got mine at a yard sale still in the box never used about 4 weeks ago but no power cord and no RCA cord.That was a bummer but i only paid $5.00 for the player. still shiny new.. one question. you seem to be pretty much of a electronics person. since i dont have the RCA original cord, will any RCA cord work on this unit. i have many power cords and probably have the one i need.. i know what it takes but as far as the RCA wires i am not too sure. because i think the original ones were all tied together with the power cord. is that true.. your is identical to mine.. just curious on your thoughts. please when you get a minute let me know.. God bless. David in NC

Hi, do you remember how you managed to disassemble the upper cover to fix the tonearm motor? Mine gets stuck most of the time and otherwise it sticks during playback, resulting a 2 seconds infinite loop, if you know what I mean.
@ashleycox43210 жыл бұрын
Did you ever get the cover off of your turntable? Mine is stuck around the clamp.
@francislarouche604110 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's been a while, but I didn't resolve the issue after opening twice or more so I got it repaired at a specialist shop in my town.

Vinyl is cut linearly, so linear playback would by default be just that much more accurate. Just a note: This model is stated to be able to play in any position, even vertical.

It will play upside down.

There were much better tangential turntables made these days than these mass market units. Try a Mitsubishi LT series or a Pioneer PL series or Yamaha's PX series. These are on a true hiend tier.
