beautiful looking turntable, but the wood veneer over particle board makes it inferior to the Technics 1200 mkII and above. These Denon's have poor rumble & hum at higher HiFi volume IE. McIntosh power

I have been thinking about this song more recently, as there are presently three or four chickens that walk around free near where I live. I find myself saying, "The chickery chicks are walking around again," whenever I see these chickens. They certainly don't make fun novelty songs like these anymore. I could have sworn that Perry Como once sang this song, though. I could be wrong.

I just got a pair of the 1010s. Spending time with both those and the 1030s, I'd adjust my description to simply "Fun, vintage tone". They are far from perfect and not the most revealing, not the best soundstage or imaging, BUT simply a fun, musical "personality". They are the type of speaker that let you off the "perfection" hook. Or the analytical mindset. They somewhat take me back to when I started buying my first speakers and how the simple features of nice highs, nice lows and a decent sense of scale first made an impression. They almost force you to just settle in and enjoy the songs filtered through a very specific and pleasant voicing. The 1030s definitely provide more mid range quality and ease, and potential for more output, but both meet this "fun, vintage tone" description. The perfection mindset can definitely take away from the simple pleasure of music playback. The Koss "bypass" that type of clinical experience.

I just picked up a pair of 1030's for $350 (can) delivered. They may be my favorite speakers of a 50 year hi-fi hobby. Words that come to mind are Authoritative... Big Scale... Open... Effortless... Musical... Vivid... Detailed... They feel like more of a recording studio monitor with their scale and aliveness. Everything sounds big and real. I found my eyes darting from one speaker to the other and sounds popped up in recordings. They simply seem much more alive than others Ive had.

Interesting look at a turntable which really should be more well known and appreciated. It is a lot like my Technics SL 1000 (consists of a SP 10 Mk 2 motor unit paired with an EPA 100 arm mounted in an obsidian base).

Thanks for the video explainer, it was helpful. I just found one of these in near mint condition in my late Uncle’s house. Only thing that’s amiss is that the cartridge seems to be missing the stylus tip, so I’ll need to buy a new cartridge. Other than that it has the dust cover, both the straight and S tone arms with both counterweights, and overall it looks great. Super excited to get it fully ready and try it out.

Great looking deck and I'm sure it also plays amazing. Has a great reputation. Not keen on companies not publishing tech details, but hey, they are mostly inflated anyway. The thing with direct drive TTs are that they cost a fortune to repair, as they are complex. I just stayed with belt drive. Ermm, just realised this was 10 yrs ago!!

I'm a college student, but I am quite familiar with this song, because my grandma always sang it when I was younger. Hi Beninski707 When the stars align, there is always a happy man. I watched a few days ago your video presentation about the Denon DP-60L, and two days ago I just bought one, in a state of near perfection. It comes with all the original accessories and some bonuses. This being said and I ask here to all Denon DP-60L owners which are the models of cartridges that you would advise both for the straight and the S shape tonearm, and both in MM and MC model. I have a phono preamp which accepts both models. Is It also useful to change the RCA cable by a model from Mogami with low cap ?

@@beninski707 When I recently bought the DENON DP-60L with all its original accessories, the straight tonearm was mounted with a Nagaoka MP-110 cartridge and I was looking for another cartridge to further improve the sound. @beninski707
@beninski707 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary. I don’t have a scale to weight it. There is one up for sale on ebay for $59.99. Aperhaps that seller can answer that question. As far as headshell goes, mine is not an original Denon. Most generic headshells like mine will work fine with that arm tube.
@slamjack2379
@slamjack2379 2 жыл бұрын
@ Mary Warner I also own a Denon DP-60L turntable with all the original accessories. I took care to weigh the counterweight which is in two parts. The whole thing weighs exactly 112.5 g. Reading a detailed brochure, the manufacturer states, that for the S-arm, the acceptable weight for a cartridge is between 12 - 18g (with the head shell included). In addition there are 3 head shell references: PCL-7 / Magnesium Alloy Head Shell PCL-5 / Magnesium Diecast Head Shell PLC-4 / Aluminium Alloy Shell

I became a huge fan of the band after this.I went out and bought Frantic City and the first album. I have gone out and bought the remaining albums and cd's over the years. They were awesome Live as I tried to see them every time they passed through. I can remember having beers with Frankie, at a Club here something I will never forget! A very informative and well presented video here. I do agree with many of your views on them and their records. The book they have out and the new documentary are awesome also. I have met the others in the band and they are all a class act! I hope they pass though Winnipeg in 2022.
