Notte di San Lorenzo, night of the shooting 🌠 stars 🌟 ✨️ is tonight! Will bring as a surprise my digital piano under my arm for an audience laying on sleeping chairs at a friend's who opened a magical library 1238m above lake Maggiore in the forest! And guess what I'll play? Sonata "Chiaro di luna"..........

I will never play this piece. But in Denis’s discussions of difficult repertoire I often find tips that are applicable to the much simpler pieces I am working on. So, for example, at 12:10 of this video Denis describes how to address the mistake of unconsciously tensing the hand in making a quick change of position. I immediately recognized this as the problem I have been having in bar 79 of the Opus 126 no. 2 Bagatelle; and I am eager to apply Denis’s insight to fix it. So I found this video both inspirational and practically useful.

never say never ;) as they say... in 10 years you might be surprised by yourself. I find myself sometimes more eager to play even more difficult pieces in a very slow tempo, but because I really like them and enjoy them much longer I can put in much more effort and time than "easier" ones. My teacher says that even if I will never be able to play in the right tempo I can still slowy build it, and who knows, maybe in few years I'll be able to play prestissimo (4th mvt) of 1st Beethoven sonata (F minor). :) Cheers!

Played this a couple years ago and absolutely loved it! It was technically challenging and taught me a lot of good lessons for both playing and writing music. It’s my favorite Beethoven sonata for sure!

Hello Danis, Thank you very much for your insights! I have been working on the 3rd movement of the Moonlight Sonata and have signed up for this course with you as well. Your insights help me a lot in lining up my mindset for this piece and in approaching, practising, and interpreting it. Your Beethoven lessons and videos have opened up a new world of Beethoven to me with fresh approaches. I deeply appreciate it and sincerely look forward to learning this piece with your lessons! Thank you also for your KZbin lessons on strengthening pinky fingers. They have helped me save my pinky fingers. My right pinky was injured, and I felt sorry for it when I practised or played the piano. The incident damaged my right pinky, and my doctor even told me that I might not be able to play the piano ever again! But here I am, able to practice and play the piano thanks to intense rehab over a long period. Now, I have the right posture and exercises to improve the strength of my pinkies, and I feel so much better. My right pinky already feels much improved! My pinkies definitely appreciate your lessons and exercises as well! I also love your sense of humor! It’s so much fun to watch your videos while learning!! 🙂

As an ambitious hobby pianist, I made the decision some time ago that I didn't have the time to learn the great sonatas alongside my job and family. Now I am convinced that I can develop a lot for my piano playing from your course - I have booked it and am already looking forward to it!

Wonderful! A great amount of tips covered within the course is very universal, and this sonata is extremely helpful for developing piano playing skills and technique. If you don’t have time to immerse in it fully, I suggest picking up a few challenging spots from the 1st and 3rd movement and use them as daily exercises, applying strategies explained in the course. Have fun!

"moving in," activate the knuckle but don't lift the wrist, eveness with thumbs supported, take a couple miliseconds to change positions, stand on black key, 8va we move back, full relaxation between the hits, though very quick, groups of notes practice, relaxing fingers while moving positions, slow tempo practice; not my repertoire but robust technique applies everywhere there is interpretation. You are a fine teacher who adaquately demo-es in detail what the moves are; we are fortunate to have such a world class player mentoring us. "Cruel ex?" Lots of story there, eh? The intervening graphics are also helpful in several ways. Thank you.

Love to watch your playing! This piece is above my level (I can't even master Moonlight) but I would still enrol as I will treat it as exercise (?) and a challenge. Maybe do 10 -20 mins everyday on small sections ...
@DenZhdanovPianist3 ай бұрын
That’s a great approach as well - using shorter spots from actual pieces as exercises, I do it all the time.👍

Thanks for this beautiful video Denis. Do you think this piece could be good as a competition piece?
@DenZhdanovPianist2 ай бұрын
Yes, it is very often used for competitions actually. But since it’s so famous, it needs to be played in a really convincing and powerful way. I think that some other sonatas like op.10/1, 10/3, 81a, 90 are a safer bet for a competition.
@DenZhdanovPianist Thank you I will watch them !!!

Hi Denis, i want to ask you an off topic question. I've appreciated you as a pianist pedagogue here on youtube for many years and i know you are Ukrainian. I've liked that you've taken some of my feedback into account to improve your set and production to attract more audience, though most of my interest is in piano playing. I've recently seen videos of Ukrainians men beeing shanghaied (taken and dragged by force) in the middle of the day by ukrainian soldiers in kaki for forcing circumscription and sending them to the frontline of a war they don't want to fight. I found that shocking. I am glad you made your life in Austria and hopefully will be getting Austrian nationality. I guess my question is to hear your view.
@DenZhdanovPianist3 ай бұрын
I moved to live abroad in 2009, and have visited Ukraine even before Covid for the last time. I don't feel I am in position to comment on what happens there. I find it tragic that people have to fight and die against an unjust invasion and face such an existential threat to the whole nation, independently whether they volunteer or dragged by force.
