The background at 8:21 made me think of my mother-in-law's "mid-century modern" art style. She was literally an art student in the 50's-60's and the straight-vertical, straight-horizontal lines very much fit. Thanks for good ideas for my "stamp-ink-tober".

You are first person that mentioned when u sharpen the pencil to save the shavings. Thought I was the only one that did that. I use palette with dwell areas for 12 colors. I used to label color number but now I have “who cares” attitude. LOL. Sorry can’t help with the stamp problem. I simply chose not to buy those type stamps. I had a couple wood mounted similar stamps that I removed from block, placed on table, paper on top, use brayer for even pressure instead of using my hand. Only other option I can think of is a stamp platform but not everybody owns one. I love acrylic blocks and a goosh pad. Happy crafting!!

Boy I hope Altenew is sending you products to try out and get you on their designer page. I have been buying Altenew products for many years now. But I love your take on their products. Your true artist tips and techniques are very different than their designers they have had so far. Not that they don’t have great designers already. They certainly do. But anyways I have noticed you have done a few of their product reviews. I hope they take notice that you bring a unique perspective to their products. It is really neat as a consumer when you can see such a great variety of designers work with a company’s products. I really love your reviews on all the different artist and craft products. I have bought many products from your reviews. I also own a lot of Altenew’s products. I would be interested to hear your ideas on them as you continue comparisons as you go. I also think it does companies like Altenew really good to get someone like you whose has reviewed maybe hundreds of watercolor products opinions before they launch new products. So I hope Altenew is paying attention to these comments too.

Beautiful cards, I loved them all but especially the torn edges, and those splatters! Beautiful! The only thing I have found that works for me with those little sentiments stamps with the solid background and fine script is my MISTI stamping tool/stamp platform. That too has saved me so much watercolour paper too as I always struggled with stamping on that. It was expensive when I bought mine but well worth it.
@cassiescreations98284 жыл бұрын
Your first example is how I love to use watercolor pencils - produces a nice organic, no line image. All three of your examples are beautiful! I wasn't going to buy a stamping platform either but I received one as a Christmas gift three years ago. I can't explain how much easier stamping is with that thing! If you can't stamp a perfect image with it, then the stamp is most likely defective (some stamps just are).

Thanks for the tips! I struggle with watercolor and wc pencils even more, so I appreciate this video. As for the solid sentiments, a stamping platform works best, I stamp more than once and use a very light touch so the sentiment doesn’t “disappear”. Also, I like Versafine (original or Clair) for just about every sentiment stamp but even more so for the solid ones. Lovely cards!

What has worked for me to avoid those irregular stamping patterns is to rotate my stamp as I ink it on the inkpad. I dab and rotate, and keep doing it about 4-5 times until I complete a full circle. That way I get usually more even coverage.

Lindsay, are those photopolymer stamps? You should try priming them before using if you havent. Try rubbing an eraser over the surface (have a brush ready to swipe away the tiny eraser dust, i find this primes them the best but it’s a little annoying to deal with the eraser dust), or wipe a microfibre cloth over the surface. You’ll see that the stamp surface will lose their glossiness and have a kind of frosted look to it after you have primed it, and it should grab inks much better after that. If it’s photopolymer stamp you only need to do the priming once, but for acrylic stamp, you get best results priming them before every use. Hope this helps! I love the first card, matting on yellow and then purple, the complementary colours really made the card pop. Tfs as always, you card making tutorials are always an inspiration

Misti, Misti, Misti. Light handed with the ink and stamped multiple times. Mind you I resisted the Misti for many years. I was too broke to afford it or invest in one. After a friend invited me to try hers I was hooked and jumped on the band wagon. I’ve tried other brands of platforms and haven’t been able to achieve the same quality as with the Misti.

Hi Lindsay, I got a stamping platform and what a difference! Honestly bad results made me ignore my stamps for years. The platform allows you to reink and restamp in exactly the same position and haven't had bad results since I got it. I've heard you can make them from cd or dvd cases but you can get them for good prices and it eliminates the frustration. Thank you for the tutorial, I am terrible at watercolour and use my pencils dry 😂 I have a control problem which is why I prefer oil paint. With watercolours I feel like I'm trying to herd cats 😂😂❤xx

Such bright, pretty, cheerful cards! I LOVE this stamp set! I was trying to think of a way to help with the shadow stamps...it's hard when you have to press hard to get it covered, then the ink gets on the wording. 😣 I saw some people suggested the Misti tool...or even the one you had made from a cd case! Maybe that would help! Thanks for another inspirational tutorial packed with fun techniques! 😊❤🌼

I started with a CD case stamp platform. When I decided I would use a platform (solid sentiments are my point of pain) I made my own. Two sheets of clear 1/8" Lexan/plexiglas, a 1/4" square dowel, and some white Mavalus classroom tape--no hinges and under $20.00.

Awesome cards, Lindsay! I love the artsy look of all of them, and thanks for the tip on how to deckle the edges of a panel. I think sometimes we forget the simple techniques. As for those greeting stamps, ditto on a stamping platform. I even kind of wonder if they are designed with the MISTI or similar tool in mind, rather than the "old-fashioned" acrylic blocks. I would use kind of light-medium pressure & just stamp multiple times to build up the color. Also, use a very smooth cardstock. I think if you are using a block, the tendency is to mash them down to get the ink to transfer. I'm not even certain, with or without a cushioned mat underneath like you seemed to use, if you could get all the ink to transfer in one go on such a solid stamp. Just my thoughts. Anyway, thank you for sharing these. Take care, & have a wonderful day! :)

For the shadow stamps, I've found lots of ink works well but too much makes the words fill with ink and then it blurs the letter... they're so tricky! And cheap ones are a nightmare to work with! But a stamping platform or a stampamajig can help :)

Re: your question on how to get "shadow stamps" to stamp cleanly, Have you tried using your Versafine and/or Versafine Clair ink pads with these stamps? When all else (inky) seems to fail to produce the results I want, I usually find Versafine will come to my rescue. And there are always the various stamping platforms that will allow you to stamp more than once in the same place, until you get the fully inked stamping you want.
