You did an outstanding job! I've been painting for 20years, obviously not everything can be sprayed like this but when it can its a great feeling. Only thing I would have done is use a small extension (and maybe a swivel) on your gun, but that's just personal preference. A+ job buddy.
@russellbarton75659 жыл бұрын
he is using a professional sprayer that is syphon fed from the 5 gallon paint bucket. I have painted houses with these sprayers and they work very fast and efficient. they can be rented from home depot and other tool rental places. the problem is cleaning, you have to go through multiple stages of cleaning by syphoning water and or paint thinner through the hose and sprayer depending on what kind of paint or stain your using.

So in other words, saving the time and expense of renting, cleaning, and returning the paint gun is probably trumped by staining it with a roller and a brush on a job this small. Amiright?

Looks like a nice job. You have the technique and the use of tools down.... On painting wooden fences in general - it is relatively forgiving as surfaces to be painted go. Two coats and it comes out fairly even - you don't have any apparent light spots, streaks, etc.... It probably took as long to tape off the hardware as it did to paint that section of fence. As long as there is no problem with small amount of overspray (a little on the grass, a little over the top) I'd say it's a good method.
@josecubas20018 жыл бұрын
+fourmileroad1 Remember the grass grows again, that any customer has problem. So you do not leave streaks or splashes have to use the correct pressure tip with the appropriate machine.

Looks good, you're obviously going faster then most people would to show how fast it can be done. Most of the time your first coat is a mist coat and then you go back for full coverage. You can use a wider tip and get a broader angle with more volume as well. That way you get greater coverage in each pass. I'm using the widest tip they make in my graco when I paint my fence. I'm going through 4 gallons every 30-45 mins or so.
@paragondave56388 жыл бұрын
Looking good Jose. 2 coats with 2nd coat up and down should allow for good even coverage. Pretty much how I did it for several years. Roll out any overspray and you're good to go. When I prepped, I'd recycle card board under the fence where possible to keep the stain or paint off the grass. Nice work in 4 minutes.

I wonder how it looked fully dry. Stain runs and sprays unevenly just like paint does. I saw a lot of uneven spraying. I guess when I do this I focus more on on even coats for a nice seamless finish. Back brushing helps too. Also, you should let the first coat cure for a while before applying the second. That helps too for an even finish.

Bare wood must be brushed in, you can spray but backbrush is needed. Any manufacturer, paint store, rep, or professional will say the same thing. The bucket will also say it on the application method. Backbrushing will push the product into the wood and also enhance the appearance and the longevity. Always spray with the grain never side to side.

Do you have suggestions about using a clear stain? I have a cedar fence that I built 5-6 years ago that I am just about ready to begin staining. Because it was aged and grey with several years without any protection I used a pressure washer and spent several days cleaning all the crud from years of weather off of it, and I want it to stay the bright yellow/orange of the natural cedar for a few years. I have used airless and air painting equipment, but it was 25+ years ago and I don't know what I might need to know when I go rent a machine. Are you using an airless? I hear what sounds like an air compressor in the background.

Thanks for your question. 1. First you can't do it when it is very windy. 2. The paint that crosses the cracks is very little. 3. @josecubas20019 жыл бұрын
+pballer2005 In our experience we take several factors: 1. Wind speed. 2. Separation of each piece of wood 3. Distance of what you have to protect your neighbor. 4. If this does not help you, the most important thing is to use a painters drop cloth , gradually moving over your neighbor's fence.

I'm a professional painter and what I can tell you about this video is: This is a perfect example of a painter that doesn't have pride in his work, he's just there to get fast money by cutting corners and finishing as fast as he can. When you don't back brush the stain after spraying it, it won't penetrate as it should and it's not going to last as long. You also have to let the first coat dry a little bit before applying the second coat. You can ask anyone that works in a paint store and they are going to tell you the same thing as me. Of course is going to look nice in the beginning and the homeowner is going to be happy that it was done fast, but when that stain starts to fade by next summer, he's not going to be as happy. By spraying it that fast without back brushing, the homeowner is going to have to pay again to have it restain way sooner. I might be slower in doing my work, but I guarantee my work and take pride in my work. Don't like cutting corners and taking advantage of my clients. Just be careful who you hire, and have him explained in detail, what steps his going to take, and if something doesn't feel right, you can always ask for a second opinion. Most contractors give free estimates, so you don't have anything to lose by getting more than 1 estimate. Everybody has their own opinion and this is mine.
@fudgedogbannana8 жыл бұрын
2 coats in 4 minutes ay? No prep, no covering up anything, you don't use a shield over the top of the fence? YOUR FIRED ! …ok, ok I know you covered the hinges and the fence next to the wood, I only meant that prep is everything, painting is easy.
@josecubas20018 жыл бұрын

+fudgedog 100% correct !!! TRASHY PAINTER HE IS !!! Painting is EASY... People are just lazy... It's NOT they can't do it, they are just lazy !!! But in the end he's a "TRASHY PAINTER "
@STV-H4H8 жыл бұрын
I remember when I first began painting. I remember thinking it was 'easy'. I remember my boss the first time telling me I was an idiot and I thought he was a dick. But when I finally shut my mouth and opened my eyes, and realized he was correct and I didn't know shit. Painting isn't 'hard', but it's a skill that is more difficult to learn than it appears.My first job painting was using airless equipment, and the 'stop' at the end of every stroke isn't visible to the person watching, and it's not 'easy' to master. Doing a fence like this isn't something I've ever done, so I'm studying various videos to see different painters and their techniques.My later jobs working as a painter, I again thought 'painting is easy' when the new boss again told me I was an idiot, I again thought he too was a dick. But again, I came to understand that it wasn't 'easy' and he was correct in telling me to shut my fucking mouth and just pay attention, because rolling a wall and not having lines and drips and other mistakes is REALLY DIFFICULT until you actually know WTF you're doing, and doing it consistently.Thanks for your video. It demonstrates the speed that I knew was possible to spray my fence. Another video I watched earlier today was so slooooooooowwwww I was thinking I might not be willing to take the time to DIY after all.

SamytheGreek Couldn't have worded it any better. I ALWAYS tell people this. Painting is easy, but the prep? Sheesh
@duartepaintinghandymanservices6 жыл бұрын
z3dsdead your first job painting was spraying? you skipped many years of training, your first job should have been prepping, like sanding, patching, caulking. second job should have been using a roller than using a brush and after you master those you move up to spraying. I hope you went back and learn the basics, because the basics is what makes a painter. spraying is nice but is not something you would do daily. prep roller and brush is a everyday thing and without the proper prep the job wont come out right.

Happy you, your house in the jungle. With no one around, where nothing you do annoys your neighbor. Something as simple as cutting the grass, painting your house or washing your car. Nothing in this world is perfect. Those who want perfection are making trips to space.

You have two types of stain applied to your wooden fence: 1. solid color is used in new and old fences. (Weatherproofing Wood Stain Solid Color) 2. color semi-transparent I recommend it only for new fences. (Semi-Transparent Weatherproofing Wood Stain) This color was bought at Home Depot

I think the person the builder hired to paint our fence used this technique, but the results were very poor. The top and bottom still look good, but the middle part looks thin and you can see the spray pattern. It's not even. Do you think that they just rushed through it?
@bruno-pierregirard52209 жыл бұрын
Ben Smith is it a solid stain or a translucide one?
@josecubas20019 жыл бұрын
+Bruno-Pierre Girard solid stain you can buy in home depot.
@bruno-pierregirard52209 жыл бұрын
If u can see the spray pattern it means that there's not enough applied stain on the wood ...solid stain should cover all the surfaces evenly ... Probably needs another coat
@josecubas20019 жыл бұрын
+Bruno-Pierre Girard Anything you want painting need two coats for better quality and better result.

this aint a 5min paint job, you have to account the time it took him to get setup. tape up the hinges, paper cover the wall on the left, setup the paint sprayer and finally start spraying, by the time you finish you spent around 30 to 40min setting up. you did ok with the spraying but I think you need to learn on controlling your overspray.
