Legend! I also bought one off eBay back in May and haven’t got round to even turning it on yet, had a google for a manual online and it fried my brain. Your video has made it a doddle! Time to build a HLT now! Them flies are twats in Yorkshire too!

Hi Matt. I have a few updates since making this video to work more effectively. PM me and I'll give you some steer.

The Blue Trouser Brewer Hey up mate, noticed you’ve started brewing in an all in one system, are you still using the pid at all?

Hi Matt. Yes still using for my HLT but tbh probably a bit wasted just heating sparge water!

PROGRAMMING LEVELS: 381 - Basic with 10 second time out. (passnumber) 400 - Advanced with 10 second time out (see full manual) *Add 1000 to the passnumber to remove time out function. * 1381 >>>Basic, no time out 1400 >>>Advance, no time out

Brilliant, finally an easy reference guide👍🏻. I think I might have to use you as my go to expert when I get mine up together.😉🍻

we can set the off set when heating is control by SSR Selection ?

Since you've got this have you revisited your settings? The reason I ask is that you've got a fancy PID there but you've set the control type to hysterisis. Hysterisis just turns the elements on fully when you drop outside of a set range. With the PID algorithm (once tuned) the controller will pulse the element on and off to maintain the set temperature as close as it can. Lots of settings to investigate in this controller. I'm just working out how I can use the programming function to delay the start of heating my HLT so I can set it the night before and it'll be ready when I get up in the morning.

I haven't but meaning to. I'd like to do exactly what you have described. I have noticed that it doesn't pulse. I also had a hard time figuring out how to get the thing to pulse based on the instructions. Have you worked out how to do it? If so, can you give me some help? Maybe find me on FB. My name is Owen Puckett. Let's discuss more!

James Wilson Are you able to explain how this is done in layman’s terms? I also have this PID and find the full instruction boggling to say the least.

@@heathenbrewer7205 I'm happy to help where I can, although I'm setting the thing up myself at the moment. I'll try and get it all working and document my settings over the coming weekend, but this is how you do it in theory... To make this work you'll need to change some settings and then run an auto tune. To auto tune you basically will need your system set up as per a brew day, including water and grain if you're using it to control mash temp (hint: use spent grain at the end of a brew day). Once you're set up, first thing is to go into the proper admin menu using code 1400. The 1400 menu is the full menu, with settings organised into groups. You can then jump through groups of settings with the U button, and the settings within each group using the P button. Once you've opened the 1400 menu, press U until you get to 'rEG', then press P. 1. First thing is to switch the [52] 'cont' value to 'Pid'. (Note: If you can't get this working properly and want to use it for brewing again, then come back here and change this back to 'On.FA') 2. Then set 'Auto' [53] to -3. 3. Now to start auto tuning set 'Aut.r' [54] to 'on'. 4. Hold U until it leaves the admin menu. It should then run through several heating and cooling cycles, work out all the settings you need and store them. I think that it continually runs and refines auto tuning so you might just need to step away from it for an hour while it does it's thing, but I'm not sure yet. 5. After a few cycles you can go back into the menu and change 'Aut.r' [54] to 'oFF' Your PID is in theory now all set up and tuned! There's a lot of other functionality in this thing too - you can program it to run through multiple set points for set times, and with a bit more wiring you can get it to run pumps or sound alarms at various points too. You can also move all the settings you need to access on a brew day into an operator menu so you don't need to put in a pass code to change them. Happy to walk you guys through all of this on a video call soon, or maybe I'll make my debut on youtube too!

Thank you! If it isn't from this video (and the comments), I wouldn't know the "secret code" 1381. I spend a lot of time trying to use 30 as written in the manual. One question: When I use the program (ramp & soak), in my case there were only two 2 groups (ramp 1, soak 1, ramp2, soak2) while in the manual it should be possible until 4 groups. Does anyone know why or how to use the ramp/soak 3 & 4? Many thanks!
