Here's how you apply these ptm sheets if anybody wants to read. 1. Chill the pcm in a fridge for 30mins before use (if you choose a freezer only do like ~10 mins). Helps harden it to make it slightly easier to handle. 2. Cut the square just shy of the die size. So if you have a 20x25mm die cut it ~18x23mm. When it melts it'll cover the edges. 3. Remove one layer of the plastic and stick the pcm centered on the die. 4. Press that pcm into the die real good. Like enough to give it a solid squish. 5. Use a pair of tweezers or a thin tool/knife to grab the layer of plastic facing you and pull it at a very aggressive angle. IE don't lift up, peel back. (this is where cutting the square small helps a lot) 6. Mount the cooler. Ensure thermal pads are the correct thickness and every screw is tightened down. 7. Thermal cycle the ptm. Slam the die with a stress test until it heat soaks your device ~10mins (might take like ~30mins if you have a massive cooler), furmark should be able to do gpu and cpu. Let the device cool off, then turn it off and let completely cool (will take a bit), then repeat this one more time. (You don't technically have to repeat this cycling but repeated cycling helps thin out the contact patch). I have observed my laptop that I'm typing this on go from idling at about ~53c down to 47c after a week or so of usage thermal cycling. That's the process. It is more involved, but this stuff has a lifespan measured in decades due to extreme pump out resistance which is why laptops start overheating so much a few months after repasting. No reason to use liquid metal or anything else with this stuff. It's pricey but worth it. You can use laird tpcm 7250 (0.25mm version) if the honeywell stuff is too expensive for you. You get an 220x220mm sheet for ~$35. Or at least you used to. Might be like $45 now.

I've been using the PTM7950 for almost a year on the core of my Zotac RTX 3080ti and it's destroying all the thermal pastes I've tried so far (mx-4, mx-6, nt-h1 and tfx). In addition to this, the temperatures have not changed even by a tenth of a degree almost a year after application ... it has even improved by 1,5°... For anyone new to ptm7950 rummaging the comments here are my personal experience with it. -I used it on a laptop direct on die -I used it on a CPU -I used it on a PS4 Thermals were amazing for everything although I dont know how I can measure ps4 temps I just trust its working its magic in there. -ptm7950 supposedly lasts a very long time. To the point the device itselfs shelflife will be the concern rather than the ptm7950's shelf life. -put the sheet of ptm7950 in the fridge for about an hour or something before handling it. It makes it harden and easier to handle. -admittedly it is still really a b*tch to handle no matter what and might leave bald spots upon application. If that happens its perfectly fine to run another sheet on top of the bald spot, they'll just all melt together anyway. -ptm7950 performance actually gets better and better as time passes and it thermal cycles (melt, solid, melt, solid). When its fully cooked you might end up with better temps than when you started, maybe 2 or 3 degrees lower

It's easier to apply if you put it in the fridge for an hour so the material becomes more solid. If you use the paste version (more economical btw) it's even easier if you don't mind getting your hands dirty (or use the finger condoms). You could then just spread it out with your fingers. Remember once it liquefies at 45 C, it naturally spreads itself out. You just need to be mindful of that and break-it in first as suggested by the tech spec sheet (run a benchmark, get the CPU/GPU hot, >=60 C for ~30 mins)..... I use it on everything these days, my laptop, my 13900K cpu and 3090 gpu. My power-limited 13900K (140 W PL1/PL2) never goes beyond 85 C even under full load and my idle temps are around 45 C @ 23 C ambient.

So i just used some Thermalright variant of PTM on my 7900XT watercooled, the temperature between thermal pastes and PTM will be very close to each other, it's not meant to drastically change temps, HOWEVER, what it does prevent over time is pump out especially in high pressure situations like water blocks. I'd say this makes way more of a difference on GPUs then CPUs. Application is a bit of a PITA, i didnt cut mine, used a 40x40 on my 7900XT and let a bit of it tear on the sides i couldnt peel cleanly and it covered thedie fully. The temperatures between your hotspot and edge temps will be the biggest difference you notice, it also gets better over time and needs 10 cycles to be "activated".

Thats definitely not Honeywell Honeywell doesn't come with those tools and to do actual testing you need to do a burn in test after the burn in test when its actually solid again it will perform even better

@WasLostNow_Found Well it's still working very nicely. Same temps as day one. Fake or not, it's great stuff. I've bought more, even.

PTM is very easy. You messed up by cutting the piece too big. It should be the size of where you are putting it. That way it can totally adhere to the surface, which makes pulling the plastic off easy. By having too much, you had a floppy side to pull on, which caused the tearing and struggles.
@TechnologyHiveАй бұрын
Right size or not, it is still a pain to peal. I know because I didn't just use it to make a video.

Why arent you using furmark?

Because Furmark is not a realistic load on a GPU.

For the best performance of these Phase Change materials, you need to cure them under high load for 30 minutes before they reach close to peak performance. Since you started measuring at the tail end of this period under a certain load, I'm not sure that you got the best results in your measurement. Most people using PTM9750 use Furmark burn-in for 30 minutes to really get good curing done and then measure the improvements. So maybe you should redo your measurements now the pad has had sufficient time to cure the slow way.
@TechnologyHive4 ай бұрын
@YouHaventSeenMeRight Temperatures are exactly the same today as day one. Great performance. Btw, how do you know most people that buy this stuff do what you said with furmark? You must know a lot of people 😦
@YouHaventSeenMeRight4 ай бұрын
@@TechnologyHive There are several. videos on KZbin, even from respectable tech tubers, on how to apply this stuff. They all talk about the need for curing the material before it hits its maximum efficiency by really pushing the target (CPU or GPU) hard for at least 30 minutes.
@TechnologyHive4 ай бұрын
@YouHaventSeenMeRight I have visited the official site for this product. Nowhere on there does it say anything about furmark or anything you mentioned. Not trying to be combative. Just poiting out that what you're saying is not mentioned by the manufacturer of this product. I do not go by hearsay.

@@TechnologyHive Check the video called "LINUS TECH TIPS - New PTM7950 Cooling Solution .... Let's TEST IT" and in particular the section "Cooking the PTM" The material needs time to fully create the best seal between the CPU/GPU and the cooler and the best way to do it is to put it through a few heat cycles. This isn't some bullshit I came up with.
