It's funny how pricing in different markets really impacts value - here in NZ the price difference between these cards is like $1k or more. I just did a build and went for a 3080Ti for motion graphics work as it seemed the best value in terms of price to performance. I think I paid around $1400 NZD for it. Now I'm seeing a 3090Ti on sale for $1700 down from $2500 and I am tempted only because I happened to have a current project that is making use of the new pyro sim tools in C4D. But I am trying really hard to stick to my plan to wait for a year or so and upgrade to a 4090 or 4090Ti if prices cool off a bit as the 4090 is going for $3500 to $4500 here in NZ.

I'm in Australia, It's like $3,800 + for a 4090. I bought a 3090 8 months ago due to a Motion design job requiring more then 8gb of vram. Ended up using 20gbs of vram with the 3090. I think I'll wait though before buying the 4090. Really don/t want to spend more money. Just had to spend a bunch on my set up.

My use case .. So how do I get 240 FPS @ 3440x1440 (Ultra settings) out of an RTX 3090 TI in Call of Duty?? My RTX 3090 is 100 FPS short of that and DLSS adds latency. BTW .. If everyone refused to buy products from scalpers, they could easily buy at MSRP like I did. I paid less money for my RTX 4090 than my EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra and I only paid MSRP on both.

The 3090 and 4090 can’t be compared really. They are in 2 different dimensions. Even the 4080 rocks the 3090ti. The 40 series card are expensive for sure. But holy crap. My 4080 eats red dead 2 at ultra setting at 4k for breakfast. It plays it at 4k at over 130fps. No dlss. All native. Looks incredible. I couldn’t imagine what the 4090 feels like.

4080 is strange, Slightly better then a 4070 Ti but with 4GB of ram but the performance is like the 4080 gives 10-30fps or so more then a 4070 Ti, That said it does the job @ 1440p, Ive ran a 4070 Ti @ 1440p with pretty much no problem and it a powerhouse, Just wish the performance gap was wider, The 12GB of vram is also meh , Like @ 1440p i never had a vram issue but still with the way games are not as optimized, UE 5 coming out to more games ya

When you say that an RTX 4090 or an RTX 3090ti are overkill for photographers, I would have to agree. I edit still photos. I use the Intel integrated graphics and it is overkill. I suppose that if I had a 32" 4k monitor editing super high resolution photos, I would want a dedicated graphics card. I imagine that an rx 6600 would be overkill. I don't know, I don't edit high resolution photos on a 32" 4k monitor.
