how to connect a car audio amplifier or subwoofer at your home. This step by step guide will help connect any car musc system element in your house. The first thing you need for this job is definitely car audio, whether it is speakers with a head unit, speakers and a car amplifier or an active subwoofer or passive subwoofer with a mono sub amplifier. Any car music system you can start using in your home. The next thing you need is a 12v power source, a car battery is not the best source, the best way is to use an old computer power supply unit, or psu. Car audio amplifiers and active subwoofers usually have 3 input terminals for power, GND which means ground or minus, then REM input which means Remote, this input requires +12v, when the voltage on this input is applied, the car audio unit turns on. And the last input is +12v, I think the name says it all. For car audio in home, REM can be connected together with +12v, because the car audio system will switch off when PSU is switched off. When the REm is connected to the +12v input, then yellow PSU wires, or plus voltage, are connected to this input. The last step is to add ground, or minus, which is the black wires from the PSU. Then turn the amplifier or active subwoofer input level to min. After that, to connect the car subwoofer to the main home audio system, you need to use an audio splitter so you can connect two 3.5mm cables to the sound source, where one cable will be for the home audio system and the other aux rca cable for the car audio. Then connect this rca aux cable to a car amplifier or active subwoofer, turn on the music in the sound source unit.

Industrial power supply also a good choice, it has low profile design can screw on subwoofer box with amplifier and price is decent!

Xbox 360 power supply is what I recommend less bulky and the big brick ones do pack a mean punch and have decent protection

I use in my computer a ps3 supply on a car amplifier 400w rms and another cheap chinese power supply to run a kenwood kdc-x301 works great the car stereo draw 10w idle max 50w, the car amplifier with ps3 supply draw 7w idle and can go easy 475w on the wall. AND YES IT'S better than some Home brands... My system have 100 db/snr

Ive thought about doing this but ive turned away from the idea because i was thinking along the lines of the wattage and it not producing enough juice for everything to work properly. The highest watts i have for a psu is 600w. Would this whole idea be suitable if im running a 1200w amp, cuz thats all i have

don't look at PSU watts, the worse the brand that made it, the more they will lie with the wattage. Same 1200w car amp, most likely these are max not RMS power. But you can safely connect a weaker PSU to a higher power car audio, just at a certain volume the PSU will switch off and come back on after a while and that's how you find out how loud you can listen without damaging the PSU.

Yo when i wire my sub to 1ohm and then i crank up the bass with the knob the psu goes off, please note that my amplifer is 1ohm stabel so im guessing that my voltage drops then goes off? What are ur thoughts and another question.. if i buy a 14volts powersupply will that keep the amp on at high volume

I think there no problem in 12 or 14v, but in amps, that need for that power. First step you can wire your subwoofer to 4ohm, i mean, that it is 2x2ohm voice coil sub. Second, your PSU with more amps, for exsample server PSU like i do - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oovVhmhqeq6nd7M

Just buy A ps3 power supply APS-226 have 32amp with lots of protection. just do some mods Easy mods! can run CLASS A/B with 400w rms
