It seems your Grandma had everything right from subwoofers to these 2.1 pc speakers. I wish I had such grandma or grandfather.

Every old grandma has a special superpower-mine is being terminally ill when it comes to audio stuff.

I used to have this set, although mine had 5 satellite speakers, other than that it's exactly the same as this. I miss it as It stopped working some time ago, seeing one of theese brutally torn apart like this hurts a little.

no no, It's fine, only one satellite speaker housing was damaged during the disassembly process, but I'll find a new box. Have you checked the external PSU of your system? You could use a multimeter-maybe the problem is easily solvable.

I'm surprised the drivers don't have shielded magnets, considering CRT monitors were still quite commonly in use at the time these were sold.

The drivers look higher quality than the fluffy bendy whatever that is on newer Cambridge Soundworks/Creative systems. I don't know how they decided to make it so much worse with the newer models. Maybe the acquisition of Cambridge Soundworks by Creative. Even the magnet is deeper on the sub than my T6100 system which is supposed to be more powerful.

Creative is still not as bad as Logitech, which offers very poor budget systems.

I have this set (only mine is not nearly as yellowed), but I think it sounds just OK. The big gripe I have with it is port noise from the "sub" woofer. It sounds better when stuffed with a couple socks but it's nothing compared to a decent set of bookshelf speakers. One thing I am curious of though, how does it compare to the Boston Acoustics 2.1 systems of the same era?

"The yellow color is from being left in direct sunlight; UV light has slightly damaged the plastic. I've read about the sock mod-it's a simple but effective way to improve sound.

@@Techscrews Of course, plastic (especially beige plastic) tends to yellow when left baking in the sun. But ironically enough, you can restore the beige plastic back to its original non-yellowed color by submerging it in a tub of water, and leave said tub of water in the sun for a couple of hours.

It is curious how the satellites have only 2w of power while the sub 20w. I don't know if that's okay, unless they had 5w or 10w

I hope to make a new video for the Techscrew Audio School playlist someday, where I'll explain the main speaker driver specifications, and everything will become clear. The difference is mainly due to the 2W driver having much higher sensitivity. It can produce the same SPL (sound pressure level) in dB with just 2W of power, whereas a lower sensitivity speaker would require at least 20W to reach the same dB level.

1:53 There’s a better option, and it’s unfortunate that I only discovered it after I destroyed one of the satellite speaker drivers.
