You are my Super Hero, just saying. As someone who has always leaned towards the "self-taught" route and unorthodox methods to my madness, flooding my brain with research and knowledge, then getting my hands dirty and not leaving my desk till Im victorious. Today, You were the "guidebook" that probably saved me my entire weekend, so thanks to you, NOW i can spend my weekend on the next steps, and more projects i haven't even found out i need to learn yet till something doesn't work. Thanks so much for the video. I've never messed with the inside of a computer before, but your video showed me how easy it is. I installed a slave hard drive with no problems on my first try! :D

Thank you! I've managed to install ide hard drive as a second disk on my desktop. My first drive is SATA (different slots), so i could not connect it as presented in the video. Fortunately in my case, the motherboard had a free slot for IDE device on it, so i connected it separately via IDE flat cable. First time i`ve set the jumper to slave device. Oddly, that resulted in my 160 gb IDE Disk capacity limitation to 31.4 gb. So I turned the jumper to master position and succeeded.

when it iz set 2 cs, the cable selects/determines how to use the drive rather than the master -slave which 'tellz' the drive what and how it will be uzed. so if u had them round the wrong way then ur pc wouldn't start up but with cs ur pc would still boot up, hope that helpz warm regardz jakkadan

Are all pcs with Vista running SATA's? If so, do you have a video on how to add an additional harddrive (IDE) to a computer running with an existing SATA. Talking about adding the IDE to a HP Pavillion Slimeline...

The secondary hard drive I am attempting to install doesn't have a jumper that would allow me to change it to the slave setting, although it does have a legend on it stating all of the possible settings (master, single, slave). Is this because it was once used as an external hard drive? And also, is there a way I can buy a jumper for it?

Brilliant video, very clear.. The second hard drive that I want to install is from another PC and has a lot of pics, video and songs on it. If I format the drive will that wipe any info on the drive. And if this is the case is there anyway around this. I can't back up from other PC as it is not working.

Thanks dude, it was really helpful. One last question. Are the jumpers universal? Can I buy 2 at a computer store and apply them so them to make my current HDD my master and my new one my slave? Or does each HDD have specific jumpers?

@YamaKazoo I know how to keep static shock out of a case, you think I just started doing this shit yesterday? These static wrists are over cautious. You can simply grab a hold of a metal part of the case with one hand and ground yourself that should get any static you have on you off before you mess around with the parts in your computer.

I understand that this video is a bit old, but I have a question for you...Here it is: I installed my motherboard, checked everything over and over...when I go to turn it on it turns on, but nothing happens, nothing comes up on the monitor. The fans are running etc etc. I checked the gfx card, went through all my cards, unplugged them then plugged them back in, same for the RAM. THe computer does not beep or anything. If you are so inclined to help a brother our that would be great, thanks.

@YamaKazoo No actually I build computers, I am always upgrading things in it, but tbh the reason why I have had to open up my main is because the power supply atx cpu connector got damaged during a psu stress test. Excellent video , good information for any one who may not understand computers using IDE type hard drives ( HDD's) , concise and well delivered , with well spoken English. Refreshing to find an American on you tube with good diction and good speaking voice and one who doesn't say "go ahead' all the time , which is always so annoying for people outside north America , who understand English.

I am trying to put a HDD from my previous computer into my newer one. The HDD that I'm trying to put into my computer was the only HDD that my previous computer had, which ran Windows 98. The computer that I'm trying to put it in runs XP. My current HDD is a SATA, and the HDD I'm trying to put in is an IDE. I cant read its legend for jumper settings because it's only labeled DS PK CS. I put in the IDE HDD and put the slave end of the ribbon cable into it. When I booted my computer up it ran 98.

@Crystalballer274 i know you can hold the case. but so many people ive seen think like you, that there is no bother and dont worry about it only to see them in a few weeks wondering why their graphics card is running games with only 3 colours or they're having random system crashes. I didnt use one building my own computer, but i was extra careful. Static is a major problem when building electronics, you cant be over cautious.
@Kingmen3026415 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure they are universal. I sometimes take some jumpers from my old ( and I mean OLD as in 1gb HDD =\ ) and use them on my newer ones ( they got a bit more "meat" on them .. they are usually 750gb [ 1tb+ doesn't come in IDE yet from what I've seen so my 1tb+ are usually SATAs] ) and they seem to work just fine.

nope it dosent detect it not even the master ? so i just took it off (since i had tryed this b4 without me setting the jumpers 1st timer & i had to reinstall windows) im think theres something wrong with it since they had thrown it away the whole tower & i salvaged it for parts & this time i made sure the jumpers were right & all connectons & as soon as i turn it on it asks for cd1 so im think its no good since it dosent detect it (includeing master when slave is installed)without slv all isgood

1.) On a single IDE cable you can connect 2 hard or disk drives, you will have to set one drive as a Master and one as a Slave. So basically, yes, a Slave drive is in some sence a second drive. 2.) Of course it will! There is almost no hard drive that Windows won't recognise, you don't need the original drivers.
