THANK YOU for this comparison!! I just purchased the Galaxy Note 8 and was a bit confused about Samsung Notes. When I transferred all of my data from my Note 4 to the new Note 8, S Note was replaced by Samsung Note -- and all of my S Note files had automatically been transferred over. However, I was unhappy with the way the Samsung Note displayed all of my Files -- and also didn't like the lines/grids on the screen. So I went online to find out how to make Samsung Note more like the S Note on my Note 4, and that's when I found your video -- and learned that S Note was still available and had to be downloaded. This is a huge relief!!! And I agree with you 100% -- S Note is a far better app for my regular meeting notes, and Samsung Note will likely be limited to my off-screen, instant memos when the pen is removed. (By the way, that IS a cool feature -- if we could change the settings so that the off-screen notes were saved in S Note THAT would be very cool!!!) Thank you, again!!! Your video was a huge help!!

S Note is far superior to Samsung Note. Original Snote from 2012 was good out the gate. Not sure why they are dumbing it down with Samsung Notes. S Note was probably the best Note taking App built for Android. Such a shame they seem to be phasing it out.

Most items in the original Note were better, S Planner being the great example, pleasing colours and tabs. Samsung caved in when reviewers complained about 'Bloatware'. Now when Apple or Android copy Samsung's refinements the same reviewers coo how wonderful it all is!

There have actually been two different S Note apps, they're different apps but with the same name. One has the brown icon that's used on the original Note, Note 2 phones and Note 8.0 and first gen Note 10.1 tablets. The other one has a red icon which is on Note 3 onwards

Great video, needed more Action Memo. There's an Action Memo shortcut you can install from the playstore that lets you choose it from the floating SPen menu. Action notes can live on the screen, etc. They're fantastic. But both great apps. Here's to hoping they finally bring back the best features like Photo Note etc.

Great video man! Only thing that I'd add as a minor thing (though I do use it for one particular note) is that Samsung Notes allows you to lock notes with your fingerprint, while S Note only allows you to lock notes with a password. I really wish that Samsung would have just improved S Note, because I'm not a huge fan of Samsung Notes. Samsung Notes does write much better to me and I do like that the notes move vertically instead of horizontal, but I use almost all the features that S Note has that Samsung Notes lacks on a regular basis. The organization (or lack there of) of Samsung Notes is awful... I use the S Note widget that shows all of your notes, which I have color coordinated, and with the memos as my quick notes that I look at all throughout the day. Without those organizational tools, Samsung Notes is really a pain.

I design all my memos on Photoshop and only after I watched your other video did I learn that there was a even a feature to work on layers here on the Note 8. I tried the basic "Photoshop" app for the Note and all you can do on it is enhance your images, but I can do that even on my Gallery app. But yeah, if you could make a detailed one on how to merge images and make memes I am sure many would be blessed by that. Thank you for your video. Samsung Notes isn’t bad, but I would have to say Snote is the Best app. However, I am referring to an older version that includes Action Memo. Like others, I’m still hoping Samsung listens to their customers, like they did in bringing back the SD card, and brings the original Snote App back with Action Memo. I already know you can still download it, but it’s still missing things like Photo Note, Easy Charts, and other things. I guess it’s still better than nothing. While Samsung Notes is OK, I still just don’t understand how Samsung thinks it’s better than the original Snote. Action Memo is so unique and really a difference maker compared to anything other Android phones or Apple has. I urge them to rethink this and please bring it back officially. I think it would be a huge competitive advantage, especially if they advertise it like crazy (even just half as much as they are advertising Live Messages). I know most companies, especially tech, are looking for that competitive advantage, and Samsung you have two in your Note series. You just need to show them off. In case you’re unaware of the two, it’s the Spen and the original Snote with Action Memo. Unless you have used the Note series, most people including me before I tried the Note 2, have no idea what the Spen is. They think it’s just a stylus to draw and write with. I’m not trying to say it’s not, but it’s so much more. Yet, you don’t do anything to educate the consumer. Instead you advertise “Live Messages” like on every other commercial. While it’s a cool feature, it’s FAR from really showcasing what you have. You want to sell these phones for these high MSRPs (still don’t know who’s actually paying full price), you might have the only product that may actually warrant it. Yet you need to show it off. Every person, including Apple fans, except one that I’ve shown my Note phones bought them and they love them. Every response including the one iPhone fan that didn’t buy it all were exactly the same. “They had absolutely no idea that the Spen can do that”, even that one person that didn’t, who by the way is still considering it. So I would bring back the original Snote with Action Memo and all of its extensions. If you want alternate commercials with live messages (if you must). I feel you would surprise a lot of people and increase your sales tremendously. I wouldn’t even be surprised if some of your current Note owners aren’t fully aware of the capabilities that their phone does. I know when I got my first Note I was discovering new things constantly. I’m not saying there won’t be some iPhone fans who just want to stay in the IOS system. However, I think you’ll convert a lot of other Android users. If you want to start making up for the poor way you handled the Note 7 fiasco, bringing the original Snote with Action Memo back officially would be a huge leap in my books! Maybe the more people who post in different places they want this back, they’ll consider it. I would say maybe it’s just me, but yet I see it all over the place. I’ve actually also witnessed a couple of people who are not interested in buying the Note 8 because the original Snote with Action Memo isn’t available. What made them bring back the SD card? We should follow the exact same steps to see if we can get them to do it with this app as well. It’s even easier this time because it’s just software. I need to plaster this everywhere and like I said earlier maybe if we all do it, they’ll give it back.

I live in Saint-Petersburg, studied at the University and all the important lectures and notes were recorded in a thick book which was placed in a jacket pocket. Then this book I have called the NOTEBOOK of the ENGINEER. When I bought a SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 4, I have a habit of writing notes, but the notes I started to write in S NOTE application. When I travel to a new country every day I try to write a note and paste a photo but it is a pity that the video does not insert in any way. I liked your video.

Hi Brett, On Note 9, I installed S-Note 5.2.06.8/4.2.83 (latest thru Galaxy Apps), the "Action Memo" seems to be missing. Any older action memo from my backup when I open in S-Note, for any updates to it, it prompts me to convert and add to "Samsung notes". Is Action Memo really removed now? Or any other app/extension requires to be installed to use "Action memo"?

Action Memo was removed when they went to Samsung Notes as the main app. Under Categories in S Note I am still seeing my notes. There is a way to get it back but you need to download multiple files and it isn't fully supported.

Mark Young I hope it's not too late but actually you can transfer all S-notes to GN8 provided you have already installed S-Note app. Do the following: 1. Turn on Wi-Fi Direct on both devices. 2. Open an S-Note category fron your old device, select all files, share them as S-note file via Wi-Fi Direct. 3. Once received in your GN8, go to files- -documents-downloads. 4. Select all the downloaded S-Note files, choose Move function, click on internal memory and then select Snote folder. S-Note app will open. 5. Name the category and click Done. 6. Do the same with all the categories. The files will open as S-note files so you can edit them.

+Mark Kelly Here is the only solution I found and it is not very pretty. In Samsung Notes you have to print your note and Print to PDF. Then save it to your phone. In main S Note settings click import PDF. Find that not and then it adds it to S Note. Not great but it works. I will keep looking for other options.

Wow, thanks a lot. Very instructive video! I even learnt a lot on S Note. I lprefer the S Note ap over the Samsung note but I can see where they can be complimentary to each other. Question : Is action Memeo (the colored one page ones) off from S Note on the Note 8 then? I can't open new ones (only could retrive the oalready created ones I had) Is it possible to activate this? Or only hrough the new Samsung Note version (which has not color background and diffeent format)? THank you for your help! If I understand correctly, for now the best way to have Action Memo from S Note back (creatiion and pop up with double tap) is to download a previous version of it from apkmirror (have to find which one is the graal). -and turn off auto update to avoid this functionality to be removed Thanks

Wouldn't you love a NOTE 8 Plus? I am having a hard time to move from Note 8 (2013) to the Note 8 (2017)! Since you cannot draw on the edges, the screen is reduced to about 5´´. Its difficult to take notes/draw on such small screen. Is it just me?

I would love a new Note 8.0. Honestly, Samsung if overdue for a new 8 inch tablet with an S-Pen...I was hoping the Tab S3 would have an 8 inch size with S-Pen support, but that was never released.

+Mack Garrett It should not be. You may need to check that you have allowed for a Mic permission in the settings of the phone. Go to Settings, Apps, Samsung Notes, Permissions. If that does not work maybe it is.

Very useful video, watched it before buying the phone and had forgotten parts and rewatced it. The inability of the new notes to add various pen types did it for me went back to the old one, though like the scrolling of new one vs the pages of old one. Also you forgot to mention, old one offers attaching pics from clipboard, new one doesn't. Also had to download extra scrapbook app, had many scrapbook tidbita saved, how do I get them to notes without diligently copying and pasting them individually. Reply appreciated, Hello from Nepal.

+Anoop Singh Ranhotra Welcome! Are you able to sync you Scrapbook? If so they will just download the pictures to phone and then you can import. You can also select mulitiple pictures from Scrapbook and share to S Note. They will all import into one note but then you can cut and paste them to desired location.

Tech With Brett, I just downloaded the scrapbook app and it synced, but likely it's support would be stopped. I'll have to bring them to snote , I'll likely open individual scraps and copy or smartselect them. Though Liked the scrapbooks ability to save hyperlinks.

I already tried the synch through Samsung account but the notes created with Samsung notes are not reflecting in S Note. Any work around for this? Also I do like the biometrics lock on Samsung note, does S Pen offer this, I only see the password option which is not as usinh the fingerprint. Thanks!!

The answer to Samsung Notes to S Note is there is no automatic way. In Samsung Notes you can share a note as an Image and them choose S Note as the place to share it to and it will create a new note. Not the best thing but it does work. What Note are you using?

Where the h... did "the real" s-note go? The crippled "samsung notes" comes with no evernote integration, no photo note, no easy chart, no action memo, no idea sketch... So if this is what progress and putting productivity features first look like (instead, we got more "stickers" in the camera app... wtf...), then hey Samsung, please also make the price less "productive". And even the current version of s-note does not offer many of those functions anymore. I hope some software fix will bring us the real s-note with the mentioned features back.
