@@RatjaR501 Depends on what your goal with HPC. On CPU level try with OpenMP (or now with the standard parallel library in C++20, but I don't have experience with it). If NVIDIA GPU then CUDA, if multi computing node then OpenMPI. I personally parallelise only on CPU level with OpenMP, and for most cases, I have to run my application multiple times in an experiment so Kubernetes does the multi-node part (running multiple separate applications on different nodes)

I have done the typical DevOps work for 18 years now, long before the 'DevOps' term was invented - and I still find this job particularly difficult. AWS, K8s, Terraform, Ansible have become so complex that it's impossible to keep up to date. Even now, as I am part of a highly skilled team of engineers, I can tell you that none of us is a master in this field.
@TechWorldwithNana3 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter. Thanks for sharing your experience. 100% agree with you. I think DevOps is actually becoming more and more challenging over time, as applications get complex and new tools get added. I myself started as a software developer in the IT world and even though I love DevOps much more, I definitely think it's more difficult and challenging :)

As if "keeping it up to date" is some sort of end goal. "Keeping it up to date" is a process. So tell me about your process, and tell me about how you measure your performance with respect to that process. I have also been doing "devops" for 18 odd years ,and updates are not things you must do, but they are things you must think about, rationalize and make a decision on. For any given update I should be able to say: importantnot important, urgent no urgent, skipped for reason X , risk is Y , benefit is Z. There are of course unknown unknowns, but being able to talk about that should be the product of 18 years of experience.
@northdot93 жыл бұрын
@@TechWorldwithNana There is a danger to think a tool will fix a problem without thinking about what problem it might introduce. The vendors are bias, keep that in mind. That said some tools are hella awesome ( I'm looking at you terraform ) . But I manage my expectations with respect to Terraform. Terraform has a job, I dodn't expect it to fix something that's it's not designed for address. For example some think that terraform will somehow relieve them of the need to know the things they deploy into. Like I don't need to be an AWS expert to run a production environment in AWS if I use terraform right? wrong. You need to be an expert in AWS to be "production ready". Terraform can help you with some of the tedious pain, but for exmaple you still need to know the difference between an NACL and Security Group. Terraform can't relieve you of the requirement.

Thank you so much for this GREAT presentation. i am always confused about what DevOps is. I tried many times to learn it but I was confused it was part of application development or infrastructure. Interestingly, from 2008 to 2012 around 4 years of my career I was responsible for the continuous integration of the product. I used ms build to write the automation script, Install the shield application to create the package and the dev code from AccuRev (version control tool) repository. creating scripts for master data. once the build prepares it deploys on the local server. Now it looks much managed with devOps. I know how much pressure I had to run this process. It's a one-click job but I need to update the scripts every time before running it in order to include the master data of new modules.

It is sadly very easy to dislike it :( Any DevOps related "Roadmap" should explain what DevOps is and this video is purely an advertisement for a bootcamp that focuses purely on tools. DevOps is not about tools! It is about continuous improvement of the value stream for software companies. The start should be to read at least one theoretical book ex. The DevOps Handbook or something similar before tool training so the people have at least a chance to understand why they are doing what they are doing. There are too many who think DevOps is just a better "ops" and this video is sadly pushing that. I know the video tried to show the difference between DevOps and IT operations but the overall message is still: Learn these tools and ops is done :(
