When I'm asked to times by 5, I usually times the number by 10, which is simply adding another zero to the number, and then divide that by 2. So if I times 50 by 5, I would add a zero to the 50, which is 500, and then divide the 500 into two, which is 250. It works with odd and even numbers too. Say I have to times 27 by 5, I would times it by ten, adding a zero, making 270, and then divide that by 2, which is 135.

The easier of doing this and you're actually doing math is : 46*5 ----> 40*5 + 5*6 ----> 200 + 30 = 230 This process should take around 5 seconds at most. If you do this often, it will calculate it immediately

Yes, of course! 64x25 is the same as 16x100. 64/4 x 25*4! Very clever! 17x25 then is also easy, 17/4 is 4,25 and the 100 moves the comma two over so we have the 425. Only difficulty so far is how big the number is, if it's 3 or 4 digits. Why aren't these things taught at school? This is a great combination of both fun and educational, it's motivating and it can be useful in everyday life.

@rhondamolix-bailey97439 жыл бұрын
+Plumberman Jones THAT is exactly what he said in explaining multiplication by 5. What I hate and have always hated as a mathematics educator is that he is calling these "tricks." These are not tricks. These are mental mathematics strategies which center around understanding number sense. In the United States, we do not do a very good job of teaching number sense. We don't give kids time to explain their thinking and the bigger issue is that we don't take the time to learn number sense.

Here is more easy way to tackle it if we have 17x25 we can do it as 1x2 is 2 and 7x5 is 35, it looks like this (2_35)---eq1. Now we multiply and add 1x5 + 7x2 so it becomes 19 we can add this 19 in between our eq1 which is (2_35) so it becomes 3"93"5 and we add the two middle numbers which is written in between inverted commas.The Final answer is 425.

A faster, less complicated way of mental math multiplying 72 X 125 would be: 1) multiplying 72 X 100 = 7,200 2) Take one-fourth of 7,200 = 1,800 3) Add them both together: 7,200 = 1,800 = 9,000. It took me only 3 or 4 seconds.

And one other trick. If you don't like the numbers you are given to multiply, you can double the higher number and take half of the lower number, Or triple the higher number, take 1/3 of the lower one, or whatever such combo works 16 * 25 = 8 * 50 = 4 * 100 33* 90 = 11 * 270 = 99 * 30 = 2970
@alihussein32608 жыл бұрын
can do a video on how to increase intelligence in math abilities.
@ESponge200010 жыл бұрын
I messed this up slightly Say you have 25 x 65 Step 1) Drop the 5's on each multiple So you have 2 and 6 Step 2) add 1 to the higher of 2 and 6... Now you have 2 and 7 Step 3) 2*7=14 Step 4) back to the original 2 and 6. Take 6-2 = 4 (the difference). If it's even number the last 2 digits are 25, if it's odd the last 2 digits are 75 Step 5) Take half of that 4 = 2. Round that 2 down to nearest integer. That's still 2. Step 6) the step 3 + step 5 14+2=16 1625
This is good and all but what about 63*25? Now you should do +1 instead of -1 because 62 doesn’t “go nicely” while /4 so you add one, get 64, then divide by 4, get 16, then multiply by 100, get 1600, and this time since you added 1 in the beginning, just subtract 25 from 1600 and you get your answer 1575 👍🏾 This is the other way you can do it if it doesn’t work
@DonRichie1292 жыл бұрын
You can just divide 60 by 4, you will have 15 then add 3 of 25= 75 at the end. You will be having 1575
@kishorecoelho31862 жыл бұрын
Both ways work out. It's just 64 is closer to 63

In fact, it can be calculated like this, for example, 125 times 32, how easy is it? Split 32 into 4 times 8 first, then this is 125 times 4 times 8 and then adjust the position of 8 and 4, it becomes 125 times 8 times 4, 125 and 8 times 1000, 1000 times 4 times 4 4000, so the answer is equal to 4000, and then a few knowledge points of science popularization are helpful to this form of simplicity, 25 times 4 = 100, 125 times 8 = 1000, 125 times 4 equals 500, 25 times 2 equals 50
