It lives! This old rusty Tecumseh 10 hp HM100 motor runs great now. Was it the knock-off carburetor itself or was it the corrosion inside of it that was the cause of its woes? You be the judge.

Wow, great work. This engine looks beautiful compared to my old clunker. It had been left outside in the rain for years before I restored it the first time. Then? My dad left it out in the rain for years again and now it's back in my garage, awaiting rebuild. Why oh why can't people take care of their things...

Excellent video series. My Troy Bilt Tecumseh snow blower surged like your 10hp. I now have hope to get my engine back to running normal after viewing your videos. Thanx for the tutorial 👍

I have this same motor on a 5000 W generator a friend gave me ….! I just pulled the carburetor off of it and clean the large tank on top of the generator frame that tag must be 5 gallons at least…..! Nothing would move on the carburetor because it has been setting for 14 years without being started…..! I finish cleaning the carburetor this afternoon and clean the tank out ….! Now I’m going to get a new fuel line and a ( large fuel filter ) , Nowhere on the motor didn’t say that it was a Tecumseh …!!!! I thought it was a Briggs & Stratton …! I’ve never seen one a ( Briggs ), with this sort of carburetor….. , I was going through videos looking for 10 hp motors that had this offset side draft carburetor….! I’m glad I came across your video at least I know what kind of motor it is ….! I need to order it a air filter….! I figure for free…., I would spend a little time in a few bucks on it ….! Now hopefully it will Run and work …! My friend that gave me this large generator, said it was working perfectly when he stopped using it ….! It has been in his garage sitting in a corner for 14 years……! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Haha yeah, 14 years sounds about right. These are great motors, but people think the carbs are touchy and so they sometimes get a bad rep. For free you can't go wrong. Have fun with it!

Thanks Bruce! That motor was more work than I thought but it turned out pretty good.

great video. but I have a question, on ground wire on the throttle, what lead on the coil do you attach that to? My coil has one tab on one side and two tabs on the other side.

Hey Wild Bill I’m working on exactly the same engine. Can’t stop it from surging despite a total carb rebuild. Also, it sputters and back fires. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I have a hm100 on a colmen generator the 5500 watter. It has hard start very. I replaced the carb with a ebay knockoff and now no start. I need to do some more diagnostics. When I had it running it was smooth. I got it for free and is in great shape, and tons of compression.

Those knockoff carbs are hit or miss. Sometimes they just flat out don't work for whatever reason. I try and avoid them whenever possible. If worse comes to worse, try and rebuild the original carb with the gaskets from the knockoff one.
