This is a typical Tecumseh snowblower carb.
NEW CARB for under $20 amzn.to/1Qaefc6 in recent years China has released these carbs. I do think the original carb that is cleaned will work better, but these are a decent alternative if you don't want to tackle the cleaning.

Thank you SO much for your excellent videos. I haven't been able to use my ancient Sears Craftsman snow blower for the past couple of years because it just wouldn't run. I am a 61-year-old female who didn't even know what a carburetor looked like or where it was. After watching your videos, I was able to remove and clean the carburetor and my snow blower is now running again. I couldn't have done it without you :)

This^ Best comment I have read in a long long time. With all the crap you see and how commercialized the platform has become, it's comments like these that remind us why most of us came here in the first place. Not to laugh at others expense. Not to troll , bully , shill or to get likes. We came for help. Either to get help with everyday problems or help others with theirs. People wanting to help each other. Thank you so much for your comment Ms.D. It made my day. Kindest Regards

Sixtyfiveford...I TRULY cant thank you enough for doing this video. My pops had very similar model and never...EVER...did tune up and the night before a big snow storm we asked him did you check to see if it works, his reply " it starts up every year, so its fine"...Im sure by now you see where this is going. Wake up next morning to him stressed out cause it will not start. So I had a little fun with him first and broke his balls about not checking it and etc etc, then broke his balls about not having a smart phone, which if he did he could youtube some videos. Just when I was about to see steam coming out of his ears...I took out my Note5 phone, searched and found your video...did everything you showed and it started right up. Again, I really cant thank you enough for putting this video up! YOUR THE BEST

I've cleaned carbs for years on small engines, never really had much knowledge of how they work, just made sure all the holes were clean and everything moved again that was supposed to move. Thought I'd see what I could find on KZbin for a video on the subject. I appreciated your explanation of the working of the carburetor as well as older versus newer models. You obviously have a great working knowledge of carburetors and you shared a lot of excellent information and didn't waste any time doing it. Sincere thanks!

I tried out this "trick" as we got dumped with some really wet snow on Friday. I had some 7 ply conveyor belt that I used to modify it with and it worked perfectly. Usually I would have to shovel this type of snow, which really sucks because the heavy stuff is what you want a snow blower for. It worked so much better that we my neighbor asked what I did and we fixed his snow blower up this way as well. Thanks so much you saved my back a lot of pain.

Dude I watched your video to prepare myself to do that exact job and I’ve also watched about five other ones and I want to tell you that you were the only one to mention that there’s no air filter on a snowblower. That’s awesome because I haven’t taken it apart yet and nobody yet has mentioned that in any video that I’ve watched so thank you very much for the quick and detailed explanation.

True, snowblowers have no air filters. I am repurposing my snowblower engine for a summer use horizontal sawmill so have had to makeshift an air filter. It was a Briggs engine and I did manage to attach the air filter. It did require some mods but it works just fine.

Yo! Henry from Long Island NY here! I got a Lawn Boy 5/24..looks just like your blower in the video, with identical carb! It started but ran like crap, bogged out, and only ran while in full choke. I took off the carb and the bowl was full of gunk! I need to go out and get a new bottle of carb cleaner to do the rest, but I have to tell you that I love your videos! Very informative and you do a superb job! Ill post back and let you know how it came out!

My 5.5 Horsepower Craftsman snowthrower after two years of sitting was completely without a pulse, so I followed the corrective action as detailed in this very informative video. To-day with new life the beast stands ready to defend the honor of my driveway......first class help to us all out there....thanks sixtyfiveford. BTW I was unable to effectively use the inlet needle to place the seat in it's required position. When placing the seat in position the contact (pointed) end of the needle only served to expand the seat in the tunnel resulting in a jam. After some light lubrication and the use of a suitably sized drill shank placed over the seal I was able to eventually apply pressure and guide it into place. Many thanks my Craftsman now works as new.

Thank you for this video! I have never worked on engines before but the idea of spending $200 to have someone repair a $600 snowblower just didn't make sense to me. My MTD yard-machine snow-blower just refused to start. I followed all your steps one by one and while doing so I wasn't convinced it was going to work for me because the carb was awfully clean inside and out. But sure enough after putting everything back together, she runs like new! If you were neighbor, i would buy you a beer! thanks again!

I check it at 7:49. I just dont talk about it as it wont change unless it has been messed with. Its a very basic setting which is to set it level with 90% of all Tecumsehs. I show how to do it in my other Tecumseh carb video. The reason your blower stalls is most likely a swollen needle seat not allowing the full travel of the float.
@sixtyfiveford

Thanks. The surging is generally a clog in the idle circuit. Yes I use a fair amount to keep it clean. The use of spray carb cleaner vs compressed air lets you physically see if a passage is open or clogged. Let me know how you fair.

I want to thank you so much for this video. Im moving where I no longer need a snow blower and I wanted to sell mine. When I pressed the primer bulb, gas would leak out on to the tire. I thought it was the primer hose, so I replaced that, but the problem was still there. I then bought a kit to replace the needle valve and the main issue, which I felt was the cup washer. My little clip for the needle valve was very loose and not what I would have wanted, and the pin that holds the float pops out like nothing if you put the snow blower on its blade cover/upright. When I press the bulb now, I do not get the feeling that Im getting pressure, but when I put it together and pressed the bulb 10 times, it started right up and keeps running like a champ. Thank You so much for your help with this video !!!

I finished, did both snow blowers. Both machines I had to replace the float valve seat, only realizing it after putting it together and no gas would flow into the bowl. Also, the machine that is newer and run only a few times about 10 years ago had more gunk than the old machine that I used last year. I swear the newer machine must have had linseed oil run through it. It smelled like varnish and was sticky, I couldn't believe it. Used 3 cans of carb cleaner between the 2 machines.

Gas should fill the float bowl at all times even with engine off. Your float must be stuck up or your needle stuck up. You could also have a plugged fuel line. I would put my hand/mouth around the fuel tank filler gas and blow. This will pressurize the fuel tank and for the needle down if it is stuck.

You could have a hole in the air line that leads from the primer button to the carb or the carb bowl gasket is bad. If you push it fast 5-6 times it should start dripping gas out of the mouth of the carb.

Great video, very informative. Couple of suggestions. Getting your cleaner nozzle into some of the holes is a little easier if you slide a wire in the tube of the cleaner. If you don't want to scratch stuff to remember where it went take pics as you tear it apart. The wrench on the main jet confused me a little, the "little more than one turn" reference is to turning it in to gently seated..... regardless of what position the base is at.

I also just spent hours in the cold cleaning this carb for the blizzard. And if it hadn't been for this video (and the 1 of 2 video), I'd be shoveling instead of running the snowblower. One comment: I used the screw trick to remove the gasket to clean it - bad idea. It came out chewed up. You should only remove that deep set gasket with the screw as described in the video if you plan on replacing it! (The result is the float won't completely stop the gas from coming from the tank.)

it's mainly this new High-Methanol gas they're pushing now.. It attracts water like a magnet, and we all know what happens when you leave water in an aluminum pan for a day or two.. I'm rebuilding a 8-26 Yardman/MTD right now, and it looks like I might have to remove the carb and blast it clean before next year. As someone else here on y-tube said, Always shut off the fuel and run it dry before putting it away for the seasons. Otherwise, You'll have LOTS of work come next season.

Your carb still has a blockage. When the choke is on air physically forces fuel into the engine. Does the main jet (holds on the carb bowl) on the the bottom of the carb have a screw coming out of it or is it only a bolt?

Yes, the Chinese carbs have flooded the internet lately. They work most of the time but generally end up falling apart after a few seasons. Save your old carb as generally no kit is needed, just a simple clean of the main jet and you're back up and going.

Should gas be filling the float bowl even if the primer is not working or does it fill only when the engine is running? After hooking up the gas line to the carb, I thought gas would fill the float bowl but there is no gas in the bowl after re-installing the carb. Thanks.

Nice video.. But you did not check your float clearance . Why not? It's important for all the kind folks to kno proper clearance , especially thoes who have a machine that stalls when tilted back.....

Question: Why does the snowblower backfire when I try starting it ? It is an old 10 HP Ariens snowblower with a Tecumseh engine. Thanks in advance.

I cleaned the carb according to very easy instructions and engine now starts, and will run. My problem is that here is a small, and I mean really small pinhole on the carb body above and between the primer inlet and the 2nd adjustable needle valve that spits out fuel while the engine runs. Is there a plugged air passage in there somewhere?

Hi, I got my 5 HP Tecumseh Craftsman snow blower running properly by cleaning the old carburetor but now I get a fine spray of gasoline out of a tiny hole in the carburetor just by where the primer hose is connected.
@sixtyfiveford

It's common for a fine mist to come out of the throat of the carb due to worn engine valves. It won't cause any issues.

Thanks for the video, I noticed you did not mention a air filter for the carburetor, I have an old Tecumseh 3.5 Sears snow blower also. I keep thinking it needs an air filter because it just such air into the carb with no filter. Sometimes when it is real cold I need to run it with the choke partially closed. Is it common for a Tecumseh snow blower engine not to have a air cleaner assembly? .

+displayfireworks1 He did mention that the reason for not having an air filter is : Because the snow blowers do notwork under dusty conditions; therefore : no need to use one.

Awesome video! Thanks for the post it really helped me take my old carb off and instead of rebuilding/cleaning I just replaced it. I replaced it with one that doesn't have the screws on the bottom to regulate it. My question is after that I was unable to start my snowblower. I've check my spark plug and ignition coil and both give spark. Am I missing something? Also, the right of of the there is this bolt and above is a diagram for on/off; I have the bolt total tightened.. is that correct? Any information will be much appreciated.

I have a 9 year old snowblower has a problem. Engine Tecumseh 9hp OH318SA. It starts up and runs well initially but within 10 seconds it starts to 'hunt" the RPMs go up and down every second. When I hit the heavy snow it stops hunting and runs fairly smoothly. When I lower the throttle it stalls. What do you suggest?

Here's a Tecumesh engine problem I can't figure out on my snowblower. It starts up fine but will stall under load, anything over 2 inches it can't handle it. First I tried cleaning the carb based off your videos, didn't work. Over the course of troubleshooting it I've: replaced the carb, replaced the spark plug, replaced the fuel lines and pump, and even replaced the muffler. I use fresh gas. Also gave it an oil change. Performance hasn't improved and I have no idea what to check next.

+dbates46 Generally low power is and issue with the main jet not giving the engine enough fuel. If it is a fixed jet it needs to be drilled out. If it is a adjustable jet it can just be screwed out to allow more fuel.

@sixtyfiveford

You will need a new float unless you want to repair it. It will have a small crack and it will be filled with gasoline. I have repaired a number of them with solder with great success. Dry it off and shake it. The gas will wet the area it is leaking from instantly. Take a small screwdriver or awl and open the crack. Drain off the gas and you can now use a soldering iron and lead solder to seal it up.

I recently bought a ariens (tec motor) snowblower off a guy who fixes snowblowers out of his garage. Well after taking it back to him three times, I decided to take the carb apart myself thanks to your video, and low and behold there is no seat or vavle, its not even there! My question is, how do I order the correct seat and vavle? I see a A50 stamped on the motor, but upon my searches I dont see a tec a50, there is a v50. Think it will work? its a 5hp. I cant wait to talk to the guy who sold me this blower, telling me its completely rebuilt.

Wow!.. I have seen some things from wanna be mechanics but this is funny. 99% of all Tecumseh's use the same Needle and Seat. Part number: Tecumseh 631021 Your model number should be HSK50(generally on the top of the motor on the pull start shroud by the spark plug. If it is electric start is under that)

Excellent video.I've cleaned a couple of the fixed jet carbs in the past.They didn't run any better after being cleaned,so I had to replace them.They weren't that gummed up/dirty but they just didn't run well.Any suggestions on what I could've missed?
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 8 жыл бұрын
+clint eastwood The brass jets tarnishes with the new ethanol and water and makes the jet smaller. If after they are cleaned they still need partial choke to run smoothly the main jet can be drilled out to a slightly larger size. You can pick up a micro drill bit set for a few bucks at Harbor Freight.

Great video, I just cleaned my main jet, I think I missed the hole near the thread though, but it runs. low speed it doesn't want to idle well, but if I put it all the way up it does fine. I'm not sure how its really supposed to run, so I probably need to clean it still. I'm guessing youre not supposed to run them at full speed the entire time?

The little hole is for the idle circuit. For the most part these run full throttle their entire life. There is really no reason to idle the engine.
