The thing I really liked about the Christmas episode was the huge turnaround for Higgins. You see him in the very first episode trying to greet the players, and they all treat him like he's invisible. Now when he does his party for orphans, about 80% of the team shows up.

Rewatching the series a couple of times, the whole thing with Nate was there from the start. He was always a jerk.
@DrZaius31412 жыл бұрын
I'm going to say "yes, but..." to that. Jamie also started out as a jerk and he got a chance for redemption. Nate has a very easily identifyable issue - namely with his self-esteem which he deals with by tearing others down. It's like when people who were hit as children grow up to hit their own children, because that's the world view they've internalized and they can't handle being the person that has the agency to set the tone. To be clear: This isn't excusing his behaviour, it's explaining it. And this is about how he is still very much in a place to grow out of it. Forgiveness and redemption are major themes in the show, yet there are some characters where we're just expected to accept that they're irredeemable (Rupert and Jamie's dad). With Nate, it would be someone who changed for the worse because of Ted, and I can't see Ted letting that rest.

Watching Cobra Kai made me appreciate Nate's arc in this season more. He's a lot like Eli/Hawk. Both start out with a lack of confidence, are bullied by their peers. But then Ted & Johnny Lawrence come in and teach them how to be badass and gain confidence (Nate with the roasts, Hawk with the mohawk & karate), and both apply what they've learned to get success (Nate with the promotion, Hawk with Moon being his girlfriend). Ted & Johnny fill in the gaps that Nate & Eli have had for their entire lives; they both finally have someone who's there for them. But then, they don't know how to navigate their success, and they crave more, and they think the only way to get more success is by tearing other people down. And Ted & Johnny aren't there to help them, because both are dealing with their own issues (Ted with the panic attacks, Johnny with his high school buddies). And that's when Rupert & Kreese come in & push Nate & Hawk more towards the 'dark side' and manipulate them into doing some really bad things (Nate with telling the reporter about Ted's panic attacks, Hawk with trashing Miyagi-Do and stealing Mr. Miyagi's Medal of Honor). Two cases of the bullied becoming bullies. I can only hope that like Eli, Nate finds redemption in the next season. I really wanted to talk about 2 shows I love. Hope you enjoyed my take on this.
@Pete_Finch Жыл бұрын
I don't know if I'd agree with that. Firstly, every character in Ted Lasso (especially the anti-heroes/villains) are much more complex than just being a one-trick pony. That's what makes the series so brilliant. Nate was bullied his whole life, from a child all the way through until Ted Lasso, Coach Beard and Rebecca saw his talent and ability. The damage of all those years wasn't just going to go away, of course. As someone that played for many coaches in (American) football back in my day, Nate's character arc has been among the most interesting and realistic to me. I played with tons of guys who were "jerks", "assholes", "pricks" and whatever else one might throw at them but I also got to know a lot of them later in life and their reasoning for being how they were to others, while not excusing it, certainly gave context to it. Things like familial upbringing, peer bullying and treatment by superiors in the professional world absolutely do matter and the reactions to those shouldn't automatically make someone a "jerk"

The idea behind Bantr actually predates the internet by several decades. It's basically a modern version of a "lonely hearts club", where people looking for romance could correspond with one another, without needing to know the other person's name or appearance. A classic Hungarian play from the 1930s called _Parfumerie_ made this the basis for a rom-com: two employees of a perfume shop, who cannot stand each other, each fall in love with the anonymous person they've been writing to, only to discover that they've been writing to one another. The play has since been adapted into the James Stewart movie _The Shop Around the Corner_ (which was later remade into the Tom Hanks/Meg Ryan vehicle _You've Got Mail_ ), the movie musical _In the Good Old Summertime,_ starring Judy Garland, and the beloved stage musical _She Loves Me._

When I was a little kid, my parents had a rickety old kitchen table. It was beautiful oak wood, tied the entire room together. Anyways, when I was about 12, there was a rainy day and me and my friends started playing ball in the house. When I tackled my buddy, we crashed into the old table, all came tumbling down. We tried to fix it back up but it was wobbly as all heck. I for sure thought my parents are gonna let me have it, but my old man just went to the bookshelf, tried out a couple of things and sure thing: When he slipped that "Fountainhead" under there, it was even as it's ever been. Learned a valuable lesson that day - if we work together, help each other out and be kind instead of going all angry, there's nothing in this world we can't fix.

A lot of people were put off by the Christmas episode and the 'Beard After Hours' episode. The story behind those two is they were written after the majority of season 2 had even filmed because the plan was to drop 10 episodes for season 2 like season 1 had, but Apple TV begged Jason and the producers for two more episodes, so they wrote two 'stand alone' episodes.

That’s exactly what I thought about the therapist in the beginning. Like, I get that Ted was overly sensitive about her profession due to the reasons he listed and he also felt threatened that somebody else penetrated his team and was helping them in ways he couldn’t. However, she was also being intimidating and unnecessarily rude at times. It was such a weird dynamic to watch in the first couple episodes and it made me uncomfortable as well. I felt like they were trying to show us that she seemed intimidating only because Ted perceived her to be and we were supposed to see her through Ted’s perspective but we also saw her from our own perspective and she was still intimidating and unnecessarily rude. So that was a little weird, I thought.
@DrZaius31412 жыл бұрын
I LOVED her. She was extremely professional and you can tell that she a) has to deal with a lot of crap for being a woman of colour (which forces her to present even more professionally), b) knows how important boundaries are to get her job done, and c) is freaking amazing at her job. Ted uses his charm as a distraction and she immediately sees through that and doesn't allow it - which is what he needs to finally receive help. One tiny detail I enjoyed very much was that she hated tea just like him, yet she didn't use that as a superficial "oh look, we hate the same thing, let's be besties", but rather worked her way through his defences before cementing their connection with it. I even felt like they could have made a cute couple. But then again, there's still hope for Sasso. Lassy? Flo and Teddie? Jeez, they have the best options for couple names.

FWIW, I would recommend It's a Wonderful Life to anyone who likes heartwarming, uplifting type movies. Even if you've seen the end, it doesn't matter too much, because to be honest the storyline is fairly simple, so you might predict the ending anyway, and it doesn't ruin the first two acts. Some may consider it oversweet, but I think it's the type of comfort movie that works well during the holiday season.

Natalie, I got to recommend that you expedite a reaction viewing of Arcane on Netflix. There's only one 9 episode season so far and it is a rollercoaster of emotion, with storytelling comparable to the first few seasons of Game of Thrones. For a non-spoiler explanation of the story, it is about two sisters going down diverging paths, as well as the people around them, in a rapidly changing fantasy world of corruption, division, technology, and magic. There is not a slow moment to the story, with excellent animation to the show, with tremendous voice acting from the main characters. In particular, the endings of episode 3, 6, and 7 are filled with such an emotional punch to the face.

Also a minor gripe, SPOILERS AHEAD the whole consequence associated with protesting against the oil sponsor company did not last beyond the episode because of Bantr sponsoring them, but that could have been an interesting arc. Richmond struggling because their main sponsor pulled the plug as they protested for the right cause (similar to how Rashford faced some much backlash from the Tories for his food for children drive)

@akshaybalakrishnan1502 жыл бұрын
@@UrbanBlueToad I believe the Coach Beard episode was added on, as was the Xmas special after Apple told they can have 12 episodes instead of the 10...not that it wasn't entertaining but just a side note And to your question, I agree they had lots of arcs and characters to manage in the limited slot they got...but the whole jeopardy or point of the episode was that Richmond would stand for the right cause, even if meant they faced the consequences financially- and as an English football fan, I have seen many clubs struggle without income and being on verge of collapse. The episodes ends with Rebecca binning the oil company and replacing with Bantr, which contradicts the fact that the club was worried about the consequences of pulling out. Hence, in retrospect, the tension that drove that particular episode was not really an impactful one. I know Ted Lasso likes to resolve conflicts quickly and not let it fester and it works for conflicts like Jamie Tartt being integrated into the squad (same episode) but for me it doesn't work for the sponsor conflict as there was no consequence for their actions to make the gesture of removing the sponsor log from their shirt meaningful.

I didn’t realize this til rewatching recently, but the coach Rebecca fired in the very first episode is one of Roy’s pundit co-hosts.

Btw i loved the reaction don’t get me wrong but as a Double Bass player i must say this... at 31:50 Higgin’s instrument is actually a double bass not a cello. Easy mistake, loved the reaction and keep it up!!

You Must watch it’s a wonderful life. It doesn’t matter that you have seen the ending . Watching the whole thing makes all the difference.

From 1976 to 1982 I ate out of trash receptacles, what others left behind. I get my movies and t.v. shows from what folk post to YT.
