@PunchDrunker Finding out that Bill Lawrence was involved is why I finally watched Ted Lasso. With the premise of the show, I thought it would be easy to go over the top and make Ted Lasso a cartoon character. But Scrubs always did such a great job of balancing the comedy with drama and heart that I was excited to watch Ted Lasso. It did not disappoint.

Jamie’s “other Plus 1” was played by Keeley Hazell, a former model who is one of the inspirations of Juno Temple’s character of Keeley. Hazell would earn the spot of “Staff writer” for season two, and was one of the co-writers of an episode in Season 3. Her influence on the character is huge.

Brett Goldstein (Roy) was one of the writers in the show. He is also the writer of another show that is being called the closest thing to Ted Lasso by some critics, the other show is called 'Shrinking', it has a great cast too, it's a comedy but like Ted Lasso, also has heart n some sad moments, the perfect combination really, like Ted Lasso. Funny you should ask 'who writes this'? on this episode. The main writters are Ted, Beard, Beards date for this episode and Roy Kent. The actor who plays Roy was first employed just as a writter. But famously as he wrote the Roy character he realised he could play him so asked sudekis to give him a chance at acting.

Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy, is a fantastic standup comedian as well. My wife and I saw him last year during his US tour, and it was so good. Fortunately, now that his tour is done, he's doing a taping of his standup show for a special that'll air... well, somewhere. Wherever it is, highly recommend it. (Also: he's rumored to be the top choice to play Hagrid in the new HBO/Harry Potter TV series.)

This show is just such a good vibe, even when it's sad its because you care about these people. And we're still at the beginning, their arcs have only just started. I've seen some folks complain about later seasons dropping in quality but I didn't have that experience, I think the entire series is one of the all time greats.

So the writers of this show have some pretty good expirience in the genre. Jason Sudeikis (Ted) along with Bill Lawerance who wrote and created Scrubs and is show runner and produces(d) alot in the past. His current show is the VERY brilliant Apple tv show Shrinking with Harrison Ford and Jason Segel from How I met your mother and others.

Shrinking is so good, too. The first season started a little meh but got better and better, and the second season just ended, and was fantastic. Brett also joined the cast for season two, in addition to being one of the creators/writers/producers. He's got a great story about how it fell to him to try to convince Harrison Ford to take the gig since Ford was in London shooting Indiana Jones, so Lawrence and Segel sent Brett to try to talk to him over dinner. Harrison opens the door to his flat, Bretty asks him about doing the show, Harrison says he wants to do it immediately and then was like, "So, is that business done? Let's eat."

From the first time I saw this episode, I noticed an unfortunate parallel between Rebecca and Rupert. This of course assumes that Rupert actually did ask Robbie Williams not to come (but come on, we all know he did). Rupert offered to ask Robbie to come in, after asking him not to. In the previous episode, after setting up the paparazzi to make it look like Ted and Keeley were hooking up, Rebecca offered to call the paper and keep the pictures from being published. Both of them set themselves up to be the hero for solving a problem they themselves created. Granted, Rupert planned his, while Rebecca was covering her tracks, but basically the same.

Slight correction, from the Premier League, the second division is the “English Football League Championship” or “the Championship.” The UEFA Champions League is the tournament made up of the top ranked teams of the different countries. Confusing naming, I know. 😂

Im sure its easier to teact to a show that has completed its journey, but... If you want a really funny and deep show that is tonally similar (Goldstein is a creative mind in it as well)... Try Shrinking. A great show with Jason Segel and Harrison Ford. Just finished season 2. 3 will come out later next year. So far, amazing. And the finale this year had me laughing and crying as ive been through something very parallel. Not exactly... But somewhat emotionally equal. Full of heart and laughs. Give it a shot.

You probably didn’t notice it, I don’t think anyone has mentioned it from a reaction but Rupert leaves with Jamie’s “other plus one”, Bex. It’s not mentioned anywhere in the show but someone as manipulative as Rupert, who has as much influence as the former chairman of the club could easily have found a way to get her into Jamie’s life and even convinced him to think having another lady bidding on him was a good idea.
