It doesn't matter whether or not Ocon still had to pit. The race track is live and the pit lane is live. Any car could have needed to have pit for any reason. And said car might not be in tip top condition like Ocon's was. No-one should be in the pit lane until every car is no longer racing.

Yep, exactly this. A lot of people are getting hung up on the compulsory pitstop but that doesn’t matter. It was a live racetrack and there could have been any number of reasons for someone pitting.

If it had been wet and a car was coming in say because it's front wing was lodged underneath the front of the car, That could have been a nasty accident. The FIA need to have a good, long look at themselves. They have proven that they are not fit arbitors of safety aspects of this sport any more.

Yep. Driver could have had an issue which stopped him seeing properly and peeled into pits for safety. If he couldn't see the photographers the result could be death or at least two broken legs. Mental that it's happening. You'd think F1 would be more organised

I put money on Perez to win at 8:1 last night as a joke... Literally expected Verstappen to dog walk this race, but figured if anything happened with him/Charles, Perez would pick up the scraps. Woke up today with a win, didn't look like I missed a good GP either by the looks of the highlights.

If Max had stayed out, Perez would have dropped a couple of places while stacking behind Max, so either way the safety car was crucial, even though perez was the class of the field

Facts that Sky glossed over. Lap 3/4 Max overtakes and gaps Charles. Lap 5/6 Sergio overtakes Charles. (1.5 second gap to Max) By lap 10 Sergio closed in and was all over the gearbox of Max.. Max pits with Sergio getting a big run on DRS and still had the tyres. Every chance Sergio was going to jump Max (2.9 second stop isn't quick) with the overcut. After re-start Checco out drove Max for the rest of the race. Max came up with the fake excuse of "My cars engine braking isn't good" to save face.. NO SKY AND HORNER Checco didn't luck in. Max was 2nd best all weekend.

Just goes to show we are still DRS locked. No decent overtaking without it. With the length shortened this year it shows. People could not get past... It was quite a boring race to watch. This needs to be sorted out. Last years cars were better, whatever all the teams have done this year has taken us back to the cars of 2020.

Agree, it's gone too overboard with segments and too over-regulated by the FIA. F1 could benefit from breaking away from the FIA and getting some quality control in their system. Watch the F2 feature races, they look far more entertaining and they've got some great talent

F1 Fom and the fia need to clean house and start fresh with people that are consistent, competent and will enforce the rules written, with clarity so that people respect the rules properly! They are ruining this sport, what happened yesterday was so dangerous and inconsistent especially regarding the new debris fencing rules regarding RB team personnel at the end of the race too.

@@simonkevnorris there's a video of ocon driving into the pits. Now if you watch it in slow motion you can see the red bull crew standing on the top of the fence. I'm not the only person to have noticed it and I'm sure one off the other team's will make something off it.

Ted, I don't understand what the rush is to get to Miami. If you get on a plane on Sunday night then you arrive in Miami on Monday morning/afternoon. The sessions don't start until Friday. Why is it difficult to set up when you have 3-4 days? That should be easy.

Because they have more than a plane worth of gear. Has to ship, clear customs, then put the cars back together again. I remember, Norris didn't get his helmet through customs somewhere.
