It seems like no one is seeing this scene for what it really is. I just finished my second watch through and it hit my like a ton of bricks. I googled the episode all over to get some closure from the feels but nobody is saying anything about it. This scene is more heartbreaking than it is romantic. Ted never said 'Remembering this'. That little exchange wasn't real. Ted was living in a memory. Reminiscing about Tracy after her death. You can see it in his eyes, Josh captured it perfectly. Ted was literally ... 'remembering this'. It wasn't a cheesy, somewhat awkward first date sappy look. It was longing and nostalgia.

After so many rewatches of this show, i have so many mixed feelings but i do really love how Ted was written sometimes. Past Ted wants to skip ahead to the ending and get married and have kids. They literally wrote a whole b-plot about how he cant wait to be an old man because you've lived your life and you dont have to experience new things. And he's sort of right to feel that way because the journey to Tracy was difficult and painful. But Future Ted is fully stuck in the past, no matter how badly Tracy didn't want him to become the guy living in his stories after she died. This scene really is where both of those characters exist at the same time. One at the beginning of the love story he always wanted, and the other living in the love story he remembers. The Robin ending feels different every time i watch it. Sometimes it feels wrong and sometimes it makes sense. I feel like the point is that none of these relationships cancel out the others. Ted loved Robin, Ted loved Tracy, Tracy loved Max, Robin loved Barney. I think, in the end all of them got the people they needed in their lifetimes

He was shy and uncomfortable with his own feelings but I noticed through the years that his way of looking at me was different so well, I took my chance. My first kiss was beautiful, I will always remember this. Future Ted kept thinking back to that moment so much, and he was having such a hard time letting her go even retroactively to the point that he imagined their date lasting longer
