Ze Frank was at the dawn of the internet's social experience explosion here. What an amazing thing to capture. It was a big crazy tool for odd experimentation. Nobody knew how it could be fully utilized, but these were ideas that could be highly refined or repurposed. Very very cool.

Hey, i just remember that this very video was the source of my english assignment about presenting something back in my 2010 high school era (back then was watching it from the TED website). And now seeing him doing the True Facts series was really amazing (i forget it was him when doing this presentation/video). And the things he talked about here has come to fruition and advancing.

I think I've probably gone back and watched this every one of those years. Ze Frank is one of the original genius Internet "creators". Watch his "the show" and "a show" and you are seeing the seeds of a lot of what is still good about KZbin, as well as some warnings about what could go wrong.

ZeFrank is a shining example of a playful and in the most complimentary sense "childish" intelligence. As children, we are all possessed of these same playful, inquiring, and creative instincts. In the vast majority of people as we grow into "maturity" (which I use here in its most derogatory sense) this fearless intellectual inquisitiveness is gradually relinquished in favour of socially accepted "certainties" which is why the vast majority of adults suck so bad.

The only difference being Jim has not been funny since around the period In Living Color was on, and Frank is still as funny as ever. Once comedians start getting into hardcore political activism you know their wellspring of creativity is dry. Not just my opinion -- have heard tons of comedians who are still funny saying the same thing. Jim was brilliant but went thru a lot of mental illness and his bits became stale.

A very long time ago, I watched this video and became absolutely amazed with this channel TEDtalksDirector. I used to watch BreakingNYC, RWJ's vlog channel, where I met Meekakitty. I subscribed to her channel as well. A few years later, Meekakitty put up a link for Ze Frank's channel and I became a huge fan. Having long forgotten about this man, as I watched his videos I was led to this TED talk. I thought, "I can't believe he was on TED!" It's interesting how life experiences come full circle.

I first watched this a few years back, and I thought of Ze as a Jim Carrey impersonator who thought the internet was just too funny. He was certainly entertaining, but did a poor job selling the deeper meaning of what are, on the surface, tiny interactive baubles. Fast forward to now, having seen his vlog projects, having witnessed the community he formed, and suddenly I take every crazy wide-eyed optimist a little more seriously.
