I cant stop billionaires. I gave up years ago. But this video sums up where im at. I can only control my own actions. We walk, bike, garden and act locally with compassion and radical acceptance. Be the change friends. We do not have this in the bag, we have no choice but to be true to ourselves and live in our values. "Dont dim your light for anyone ...its not on you, its in you. "

Basically shes saying that some humans are so idiotic that they cannot understand contextual information but have to wait to experience it first hand. ie. it's not enough to tell someone that the stove is hot, don't touch it; some humans have to touch it, get a burn, before realising, oh... maybe the stove is hot, and hot is bad.

It’s a good point though because if we are being realistic this behaviour is so common, until people personally not get hurt some way they will not do anything. I would say that nearly all people are like that unfortunately. So knowing that we can use it as advantage and to choose words and examples that would touch their own hearts. I think spreading information about climate change in a way that would influence people is an art all climate activists should learn 💚

This is a wonderful sentiment, but I have some a question: How do I get to a protest rally without using fossil fuels? My car and the transit system use fossil fuels. Being so far from city center (where any rally would take place) the walk downtown would take five hours according to Google Maps. And that's just one way. I'd still have to get home. It also assumes that I'm 30 to 40 years younger than I am, so I'd have to adjust for my age which would include: a) stopping for rest breaks (at least one or two per hour), b) bathroom breaks (we won't talk about how many of those I'd need or where I'd 'go' without getting arrested), c) meals! (can't walk all that way without refueling... if you'll forgive the pun), and d) how much it would cost to visit a massage therapist for six months to a year afterward. Yes, I'd like to live in a better world too. But more and more I'm realizing that it's like the farmer who was asked directions. After humming and hawing for a minute he said, "Nope. You can't get there from here." As a 'good' liberal, it pains me to say this, but I've come to believe that the world would be better off if we let history run its course. The powers that run this world will always win until we're so few that they just can't trick us any longer. We all want to save the world but when we ask ourselves what we're willing to give up, how do we answer? Cars? Electric power? Comfortable homes? Oranges during a northern winter? Ice for our drinks during a tropical summer? All those goods and services we've come to think of as important? Where do we draw the line? Get rid of it all and Earth can (slowly) get back to doing what it does best... evolving new life forms. Let's face it. This society we've allowed the greedy madmen to build with the help of their trained lackeys who do such a great job running the propaganda machine, is _not_ going to be part of the future. Best to just let go and let it be their downfall and we'll all be better off reincarnating as geese or deer or foxes or something, anyway.

Depending on where you live bikes? TBH driving or taking public transport to protest is fine, you don’t have to be a perfect environmentalist to show you care about environment, just know you did your best with what you are given with is enough

sounds like you’ve bought into the idea of “carbon footprint”, where we are individually and personally responsible for systematic problems. That idea was developed by a PR firm for BP, 20 years ago. It’s propaganda. The answer? You go to the protest, even if it means using fossil fuel, to protest systematic and inescapable consumption of fossil fuel, AND demand alternatives. Because alternatives exist. Cars don’t HAVE to run on gasoline - they can run on electricity. And electricity doesn’t HAVE to come from coal - it can come from the Sun and wind. And if we can have the benefits of a modern civilization *without* pumping CO2 into the atmosphere, why shouldn’t we?

USA and Canada were never designed to enable anyone to participate in anything. It's systemic. They want you to be isolated. In the 21st century you should be able to comfortably take an electric tram (powered by renewable energy) to the city center. In some countries public transportation is already like that. Maybe the more neglected Americans get by their government, the sooner they will act and fight?

Instead of big oil obstructing alternative energy and paying politicians to block legislation, they should be able to see the benefits of investing in it. If governments can't move the needle, then shareholders have to try. Shareholders seem as disorganized as a non union shop.

I knew a man, 2 generations ago, who was a wealthy financier. He kept a small picture frame hanging above his desk with a 2 line motto in large, bold italics. It said: Never finance an optimist. 😂😂😂😂😂 But really, he believed in something: a power greater than man. God. He believed in God. He knew something the upcoming generations don't, because he helped build the structure that supports their independent lives in the society of today. He knew that a godless one lives under a giant vacuum that will soon find authoritarian hands to manage it, and risk being sucked away by flourishing but illusory displays of the power of man. Incidentally, he also earned The Purple Heart at Iwo Jima. He believed in the rewards offered by the sacrifice of discomfort, a concept I fear many Americans may have lost touch with among the luxury of modern living. I hope we can remember in time, but feel anxious that we certainly might soon enough.

“Apocalyptic Optimist” LMFAO ! First one must have accurate factual data that we never have had or are likely to have in the future when we so desperately need it in. Climate change is inevitable and has been going on for millions of years before humans. There are extremes that we can't control and when we do effect change it's likely not for the better as a over-correction is inherently more dangerous and difficult to control than the original problem history time and time again has tried to teach us this to no avail. The key is adaptability and flexibility to climate change. Yes, this means sacrifice and death of a segment of what we may be used to but there is always the emergence of new and even better life in the future. Embrace change don't try to stop it or drastically bend it to your will.
