So, if I own a family business of 10, do I have to fire 3 of my relatives just for my revenue to grow? Does she mean I could get fined or loose my businesses if I refuse to do that? What if there's no competent person of minority applying for a job at my company, do I have to hire underskilled worker or leave that space vacant until some competent non white person shows up? This idea seems a little crazy. Also, I highly doubt Google would do better if they fired most of Asians that work there.

The atrocities of the past still permeate to this day, because people want to ignore the fact that it still happens in implicit ways! That is exactly how past atrocities continue to repeat itself, by being in denial that they exist in many avenues. We still have issues with Blacks, who have ethnic sounding names on their resumes, being able to get job interviews. The same credentials as resumes with "White sounding names" are 50 percent more likely to get an interview, than that of the ethnic sounding names. That is racism! www.povertyactionlab.org/evaluation/discrimination-job-market-united-states There are also gross racial disparities within the American education system, which is typically the catalyst for a person's career. Black students are more likely to be negatively stereotyped by their teachers and administrators, which ultimately determines the value of their education. www.apa.org/monitor/2016/11/cover-inequality-school uncf.org/pages/k-12-disparity-facts-and-stats These are Statistical Facts. Not Falsehoods. However, since the truth is more disturbing to realize, you retreat into deflecting these facts and hide under defending the "white guilt" theory. @@JasonD3004 Unfortunately, the real world is a lot more complex than your simple line of reasoning. What if I told you that the prevalence of racism is the norm? Skin color is not the focus of racism or lack of diversity as no ones skin is the color of notebook paper, a car tire, an unpeeled lemon, or the center of the Target logo. Brown is accurate. Use of the socio-political classifiers called race denote expected behaviors of each racial character. The inclusion or exclusion of people is predicated upon the beliefs of those in the power position about what people might or are expected to do, based on their personal, educational, and occupational "cultural training" (often referred to as bias). Inclusion can lead to opportunity; Opportunity can lead to participation; Participation can lead to influence; Influence can lead to change. Change can lead to equitable outcomes, which is justice. Now, who do you believe wants justice to be the norm? Who do you believe does not want justice to be the norm? The answers will reveal the supporters of exclusionary behaviors and the requestors of occupational equity. -Cheers

Very interesting. I love to watch these videos - as a white person, I really don't understand a racial minority viewpoint. I've never had to wonder if I didn't get a job because of my color. I did lose a job once because I was a month pregnant, and it was really confusing. I've also been asked when I was planning on having kids at a job interview. I have lost jobs because of my age (they wanted someone who had no experience, so they didn't have to "undo poor training"). I've been passed over because I wasn't a veteran (although the job didn't require military experience). In a vacuum, yes. But let's be real here: companies with the greatest advantage are the least motivated to change. And some 5-person company with it's peasly 30% productivity boost is still not going to be able to compete with Microsoft. The problem is, new can't compete with established. And established isn't diverse. Because so many established businesses have a self-perpetuating monoculture, you can't just wait for that established culture to change on its own. It's got no reason to. And that's true whether what's established is a bunch of old white men or a bunch of one-legged breast cancer survivors who don't like cilantro. It doesn't matter what the group is, it's always hard to break in to an established culture *even if you have something valuable to offer*. I learned this myself when I was hiring. I'm not intentionally sexist. But as the only woman in a technology company, when I was able to hire an assistant, I found myself thinking "gosh, I wish I could have another woman to work with. We just see things the same way and it's so much easier to get things done". Yeah, well, that's why it was so hard to get hired in the first place. I get it now. We all want to work with people like us, because it's easier. Even if it's ultimately "less productive". That's why you can't just fix this by waiting, and why "30% more productive" means diddly squat unless you're in a lab environment.

1. There are pervasive physical differences between Whites and Blacks, including brain size and structure, bone density, muscularity, fat storage, hormones, and metabolic rate. Whites’ brains are on average, 6-8% larger; larger brains being correlated with higher intelligence. There are also differences in behavioral traits such as sexual activeness, marital fidelity, birth rate, gestation period, and maturation rate. These indicate a biological strategy of greater parental investment for Whites, also correlated with higher intelligence. 2. Genetic divergence of the races has accelerated since Whites/Blacks split over 60,000 years ago, and a majority of genes affect the brain. Whites evolved in Northern regions with greater cognitive demands to plan and prepare for harsh Winters. 3. Many specific gene alleles have been linked to higher intelligence, and in every case these alleles occur with greater frequency in Whites than Blacks. 4. White-Black academic and cultural disparities, including an IQ gap of 1SD or more, are consistent across geographic regions and technological eras. They persist throughout various cultures, and in spite of massive uplift programs for blacks. 5. When African Blacks took control of White-governed nations with advanced infrastructure, some of them rich in resources, the level of civilization collapsed. 6. Twin/adoption studies consistently show that core traits including intelligence are mostly genetic-based for both Whites and Blacks, and rule out cultural factors as possible causes of the IQ gap. Identical twins reared in random families have much closer IQs than fraternal twins reared in the same family. Genome-wide gene association studies reach the same conclusion. 7. The 1SD White/Black IQ gap is evident in the first tests of children at age 3, when cultural differences are minimal, and is consistent throughout the lifespan. 8. Intensive and extravagant education programs have mostly failed to raise Black IQ or academic achievement, having but minimal effect. Sadly, humans are most definitely *NOT* created equally; just as every other mammal on earth, enormous genetic differences exist within the same species. An Arabian thoroughbred is a beautiful and majestic sight to behold while at a full gallup. A mule on the other hand is more useful for pulling carts. Championship level horses are carefully bred and their genetic lineage is traced intensely with the most elegant variety carefully mated to the next. By repeating this process over a span of many thousands of years; fundamental changes occur; there exists an adjective in English often used to describe this phenomenon. The word is ‘evolved’. Did you know that 498 of the 500 fastest recorded 100 meter times history have a genetic lineage which can be traced to an area of 100 square miles? Guess what area it is? Hint: it’s not Outer Mongolia. These facts I list are painstakingly obvious and no sane person on earth would suggest that a common mule would stand a chance in a race against Secretariat. Accepting facts are part of being evolved as a human. Denying quantifiable facts will not alter them.

A perspective coming from a multi-generationally mixed detribalized Indigenous & Spanish person from Mexico (born: East Oakland Ca.): It’s important to become more aware of what “diversity” & “inclusion” actually means in our society and the impact it can have on marginalized communities because to some it literally just means more forced assimilation. Consider specifically the “inclusion” part and ask: WHAT are we actually referring to when it comes to “inclusion” & WHY? And “diversity” for WHO and WHAT space? These words can feel invasive and can trigger heavy discomforts, especially for those who are reconnecting with their roots or Decolonizing. There’s knowledge and research as to why that is, but it’s a fairly new subject being discussed within abolition movements. This is one of the main reasons why I myself find it overwhelmingly difficult to apply myself to any field of work or creative arts space, it’s because of “diversity” & “inclusion” efforts, in a world where white supremacy is at it’s foundation… to me, “diversity” and “inclusion” just means more forced assimilation. It’s not an obvious thing to realize and it’s hard to acknowledge, we all have to unlearn and learn new things if we are to genuinely embrace community. And I think instead of saying “diversity” and “inclusion”, I feel more comfortable saying: to embrace community. Isn’t that the goal anyway?

Also, “Hispanic” is still not a race… We all still need to learn not to generalize people and group them into dehumanizing terms of erasure, it’s 2022 y’all, we can do better.

Step 1: Resize putting efforts into ‘diversity’ are a waste of time and resources. Customers want high quality service from high quality employees. Those who judge employees based on color or gender, are bigots. Focus on serving customers, not the desires of bigots and I promise your business will be alright.

It's all about location. If a business is in a mostly black neighborhood it's safe to argue the employees and customers will be mostly black. Same for white majority neighborhoods. Universities should be trying to get the brightest minds into their campus not trying to reflect the ethnic makeup of the country. Asian Americans are discriminated against when applying for universities. That's what happens when you try to micromanage how people qualify for higher learning. Let the best people in for the job. The cost is higher as well. If a university is forced to higher a black professor and there are none in the state the area they have to expand their search. If there is one in the area and he is less qualified than a white man hiring him base on race would hurt the overall quality of the system. If there is a black and white person of the same qualifications hire the one who best suits the position. Equality of opportunity is the best policy.

So true, everyone knows how hard and seriously Asians take education, as they often finish at the top of their classes, yet need to step aside - after all those long hours studying - to make way for "diversity and inclusion" of those who failed to put in the due diligence. Forced diversity, such as this woke woman tries to guilt us into believing is the only way to go, never works in the short or long haul, just fuels animosity for those privileged enough to take advantage of it.

If a business is in a predominantly black neighborhood, the only thing that is going to happen is armed robbery and a torching during their riots.

Step 1: Have a third party (e.g. - student, consumer) who doesn't know much about the inner workings of the entity (e.g. - university, corporation) come up with arbitrary diversity quotas (which the US Supreme Court has dubbed unconstitutional). Step 2: Assign the entity an arbitrary timeline and attach a threat (with only a vague, causally ambiguous carrot at the end of the stick). Step 3: Assume that, if the terrorist's - er sorry, "concerned consumer's" - demands aren't met, the ONLY reason (out of nearly infinite reasons) that they weren't met is because the leadership at the entity "doesn't take diversity seriously." Step 4: Destroy the careers of the leadership at the entity - ideally, destroy the entity as a whole. Step 5: ??? Step 6: Profit!! As someone whose profession is very much centered around engagement and diversity in the workplace, I had high hopes for this video; I was excited to watch it! (Didn't see the like:dislike or comments until after I finished.) What a letdown.

This is a great talk with lots of good information to think about, improve habits and make a change. The only thing I already knew, but always seem to forget, is not to read the comments... smh

She is exactly right. Diversity is not just having different skin colors but different opinions and narratives.

Except that she was looking at numbers for minorities and the first half of the talk was about black people getting schooling rights. An important subject, but nothing to do with diversity of opinion.

DeOnn Norton ...Black people (or so-called “minorities”) have no right explaining how our Western world should operate, let alone our own business. Africa barely got past mud huts a few years ago.

DeOnn Norton: Thank you! Everyone knows of things in life they think of as stereotypically black, or hispanic, or female, or LGBTQ, or whatever. While these are often magnified to further discriminatory practices, they show one important thing: What you are born with directly affects your upbringing and your perspective. When you hire more minorities, you automatically gain perspectives that you lose by primarily hiring straight white males.

DeOnn Norton- It pains me to read the replies, but this is just the way the new conservative movement seems to be moving. They even want to abolish the laws that protect workers rights, housing, & disabled people. I see this as tossing out the baby with the bath water. Very illogical thinking that tells me they are afraid of diversity & want their own little private clubs & neighborhoods. They even want to ban books in schools & keep children from learning about anything they deem as left wing! I kid you not, these "people" scare me & I'm white!
