Nice fix Theodore. The fact you didn’t charge them was even nicer. Sometimes it isn’t just about money, you’re probably right about making a new customer .👍👍🇨🇦

Whatever was hitting the fan in that outdoor unit was making quite an amusing sound.

You did a good thing by not charging them. I hope they will return as normal customers in the future

If you listen to the issue , home owner says the cooling works but not going into heat mode. The orange wire for reversing valve was connected to power forcing it to stay in cooling mode as reversing needs to be powered for cooling and de-energized for heating. I have done this myself for a few reasons , I suspect the person who did this forgot and just walked away or this was a quick way to get cooling going , there was no charge and tech left the job as completed for a problem for another day for another tech call.

Does appear to me that the orange and red are in the same wire nut. Good job...

I'm guessing it had a 1/1 thermostat that did cool and electric heat. Someone has obviously changed that thermostat since the last time the wall was painted. Whoever did it hooked it up by the instructions but without understanding that the outside unit was wired as a straight cool. I've heard of people doing that to keep evaporator pressures down and reduce the leak rate if a small one is caught.

Probably couldn’t get reversing valve to energize during the summer time and jumped it. Tstat might be set up for B?

Based on repeated watching from 1:40 to 1:55 -- You can hear the reversing valve switch just before you started unscrewing the wirenut, the wire pulled out very easily. Seems like it was poked in there without twisting, hmmm very interesting

It does look like the orange and red are together in that wire nut.

Makes me wonder if they were running emergency heat last winter if nobody has been out there working on it.

The wire may have just come lose and lost the connection . I have seen that before in my light switches . That would make sense to me anyway! I am sure they will call you back first if anything goes wrong .!A little kindness goes a long way sometimes!
