WHY DO PEOPLE FEEL THEY NEED TO COVER AND HIDE THE UNITS OUTSIDE ARE THEY THAT UGLY FROM THE STREET TO BE ASHAMED FROM BEING SEEN I FAIL TO UNDERSTAND THE WAY PEOPLE THINK ON THIS SO A BIG OVERGROWN BUSH DOES THE JOB

Where I am the ants seem to love contactors! They fry themselves between the contacts.

Slap me across the face, but I would replace the contactor, replace the nasty looking cap, clean out the box and clean the condenser coils... But then I heard you say that you're going to put a new unit in. Glad you went through the effort to pull apart the bad contactor to see what was wrong.

Those HS18's were really good basic builder units. I worked on a lot of them earlier in my career in NJ. They were hard to kill, kinda like the old Rheem 10 SEER units with the scroll compressors in the 90's.

The covered up unit is way too common. I've seen quite a few of them. My favorite was a lady who didn't want her ugly unit to be visible from the road and had a fence built right against the unit. She couldn't understand why the unit wasn't cooling until the tech took down the panel that was against the coil and it miraculously started cooling. He had to explain that the unit had to have enough space for airflow to work and show her the specifications for clearance for airflow and servicing.

I'm surprised contactors last as long as they do. Homeowner needs to be advised that bush that seems to want to be a tree needs pruned accordingly...or removed. Good call as usual by Ted. No upsales....just fix it.

Take a picture of those wires and make sure you get them back correctly. That's what the DIY videos tell me! LOL

Well, Ted it ain’t the units fault that the owner of the home keeps it covered up with the dang Bush

The plastic nut was unscrewed off inside the cabinet for the service line whip; I thought that you would reposition that and tighten it up.

Those HS16 HS18 last a long time. Those came out back in the 80s. R22 units. So are you selling A2L units to get on board with the new 25 rules? Easy simple call. Enjoy your wknd and Happy 4th my friend.

Note to all manufacturers: How about an isolation switch near the contactor on the low voltage side? Sure would help out techs from blowing fuses…🤷♂️

One thing I hate about Bugs. I had to clean my contactor a few times because of bugs. mostly Ants. I turn off power and clean it out and up and running again. sometimes they clime down and when its pulled in it cant go all the way in because of the ants. If only they made them where bugs couldn't get to the contacts or under the coil.

2:27 Ted you know there’s a difference between bending back and just out-right broken! I would’ve gotten my Milwaukee M-18 loppers out and trimmed that tree so that it looked like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree afterward!

I carry a pair of mid size limb loppers in my van for just that situation. I've never had a customer say no to taking out a limb or 10 when they find out it's going to kill their compressor staving it for air like that. They always say "do what you want as long as the AC works".

Why dosn't the home owner trim/cut back that bush to allow you and that A/C to have improved air flow 🤔 Au

I thought I saw a Dead Thing on the right side of that contactor. You need a MPX for your favorite toys; I think it would give you room for some pruning shears as well!

4:40 I don’t watch the whole video and then go back. I make comments as I go along, so as you can clearly see folks the nut holding the conduit bushing in is sitting on top of the wire inside the cabinet and that’s not where it goes, of course so I hope he will fasten that nut back onto the threads of the bushing for the conduit and “make it right” as Mike Holmes and I both would say!
