Teddy reminds me of my coach when I started boxing in the early 80s. They don't make trainers like that anymore. As a boxer, you're an artist. Practice, practice and more practice. I liken us to jazz musicians. Often they will practice the scales over and over. Even the more advanced artist practice the fundamentals. The same can be said of boxers, shadow boxing in front of the mirror, after you take your piss in the morning. That's how I was taught and still do it 40yrs later.. Respect & Love to ya, Teddy!👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾

This is good stuff. I know that I personally had a different opinion of Teddy, until I hear him slow down and break stuff down like this. It also added a lot to the character and the public persona' that is Teddy Atlas, that he adopted to studying MMA as well. There are so many other trainers and boxers (ex & current) who tried to crap all over MMA - "Yeah they cannot punch like me...they cannot slip like me...they throw haymakers, they're sloppy .." which in part is true, but they forget that in MMA you don't need to be pinpoint on the target and timing with your punches when you have kicks, grappling etc. Anyhow that's another story. Teddy has a wealth of experience in boxing and of in the philosophy of life, this is great.

Mr. atlas I like the reference to ocean waves I am an accomplished surfer more so than even a boxer which I’ve done both competitively also I like how you say to not be scared to throw the counter right if you have to think about a patch it’s too late as you know things hurt more when you hesitate anyways ... Ray Ramos was one of my trainers but I would’ve loved also to have you and Mr. Rooney Archie Moore in my corner may God bless you and yours

When does Teddy's video on Timing come out?
@ministry_of_love Жыл бұрын
I had a friend who got a job in a bank, his boss moved and asked him to join his new team. My friend didn't hesitate with his timing and has since progressed to the top of the corporate world. I had the same opportunity to join a similar bank but hesitated with my timing. I'm not at the top of the corporate world, but in my spare time I coach kids in a local boxing club. The kids learn from me what happens with _bad timing_ .......

I know its MMA but if you watch Nate Diaz vs McGregor fights (which are almost exclusively kickboxing fights) you'll see McGregor throw and land this at will. Another good fighter to watch do this is Marcos Maidana. He knocked alot of ppl out with this

Timing beats speed..I saw that in a match years ago,I believe they were lightweight..two dudes,..anywho,the younger faster fighter was destroying the older one..I mean 3 shot combos ..then out of nowhere,the older boxer,cought him coming in..boom..he couldn't beat the count..the same thing happened w madrid taylor vs ceaser chavez..madrid was much faster than chavez,but chose to bang it out with chavez..bad move.

Leave it to Teddy to school everybody on what a right cross really is. Overhand right going over the top of your opponents left Jab. The arms make a cross. I've known this for 50 years. I'm sure Teddy would cringe every time some idiot commentator on the TV said a right cross when he was just throwing a right hand.

Probably the worst explanation of the cross counter I've ever come across. A cross counter is initiating an inside slip and right hand on the extension of your opponents strike (in some cases technically can be retraction too), it doesn't have to be a jab either, same applies if they fire left hook and the holy grail is if you can time the extension of their right hand, that way they are squared up and pivoting into your punch. Specifically for an orthodox fighter, a cross counter is stepping your lead foot on a 30 degree angle whilst both slipping to the inside and lacing the cross over the top, head off center and loading the follow up left hook. So really you don't time the right hand (this encourages arm punches) you time the lead foot step and inside slip and the right comes across for the ride. Watch Terrence Crawford time Amir Kahn in the first round or watch any Teofilo Stevenson and Felix savvon knockout for reference. There's only 3 timings in all striking (albeit coaches like teddy and 99% of fighters are only intuitively aware at best and blissfully unaware at worst) Leads: where you initiate, simultaneous counters: initiated on the extension of an opponents strike (creating a collision) and delayed counters: as they retract back to their guard (make em miss make em pay and a catch and shoot for example).

Too much talking
@hornylorney81503 жыл бұрын
Teddy why do you always have to give long winded analogies with topics unrelated to boxing? Why are you talking about how life is a fight in a video about countering the jab? Just talk about boxing using actual boxing.
@hornylorney81503 жыл бұрын
@@Pride-Before-The-Fall because instead of saying "throw a stutter jab to raise his guard then come around with the left hook, but you need to get him used to defending the jab first" he'll go on about how a hunter has to set traps before he can get his meal and shit like that. I don't know why he can't just talk about boxing.
