@DuncanMac235 жыл бұрын
@@chrishardy3473 with four governing bodies and 18 weight divisions, boxing has 72 belts that we could consider relevant. Its difficult for the average fan to follow. If you kept the weight divisions and unified the governing bodies you would only have 18 champions. This would go along way in making sure the top talent fought each other. It could also streamline the product, making it easier for the fans to follow. Boxing is incredible right now but the messy product is getting in the way of attracting new fans. With the big three HWs all fighting under different promotions, along with Mayweather and Manny in retirement the sport will need to do something to stay relevant. The PPV model is also on the way out in my opinion. The times are changing and boxing is stubborn as fuck.

In many, probably most cases, a leader is a dictator. The word has just been damaged by totalitarian leaders. How many leaders really split decision making duties with a panel of people? Not many. Unless MMA has a champions league like football (soccer in the USA) where all the league's send their best teams to be the ultimate champion amongst the club's...it cannot be called a legit sport.. tournaments are rarely held and meritocracy is non-existent..you can't have subjective title shots..it should all be tournament style
@RiccoVanWilder5 жыл бұрын
Can't dispute your points but I will say, the fact we have different promotions is good because competition amongst them is good for us. It pushes brands to keep making good fights and keep innovating for our attention and dollars. I would love that Champions League style tournament though. It would expose us to new talents we've never seen and possibly bring our attention to lesser known/prestigious promotions. UFC wouldn't do it though because they have the most to lose

@Claudius Maximus floyd did not get into a dog fight they were not trading shot after shot standing in the middle of the ring. God ur hate for conor is so large that anything that puts him in a positive light u have to immediately discredit it in a way u think is logical but really makes no sense. Go back and watch floyd vs conor that was not a dog fight by any means. Cody vs tj that's a dog fight. Conor vs nate was more a dog fight than floyd vs conor was. The first one was a total dog fight and conor gassed expecting to have finished nate already.

My biggest problem with boxing is that the belt system is too hard for a dude to start to follow, I always liked the sport but I can't name a single champion besides maybe Joshua and Wilder, and is very complex to understand all this promoter business(Like Fury won't fight Wilder because of his network deal), I don't think they need a Dana White, boxing just needs to make things simple for a average fan to turn into, I remember when I got into MMA and it was so simple to understand how the sport works, and I was way younger than now, I tried to get into boxing for a good time but I still always get confused with all that stuff boxing has

Chael always remembers the superfight belt a little different than I do. There was kind of a lineal belt, it was confusing because of draws, particularly in the first ever UFC superfight. My understanding of the heavyweight belt is that it was a unification between the at time current UFC tournament champion, and the super fight champion, both UFC belts became one. I'd have to double check, but I think we still have that lineal title and that it actually is in the hands of Daniel Cormier, and its unified with the lineage of the pride heavyweight title because of werdum having beaten fedor and falling in the lineage of the heavyweight belt

You can't replace the word dictator with anything else, because it's relevant that Dana (and only Dana) is the one calling the shots, like a dictator. Teddy said it right when he said that SOMETIMES it IS good to have a dictator, when that dictator is extremely competent and has the right intentions. It's the age old conundrum of supreme rule. An incompetent or evil dictator is a curse, while a benevolent, intelligent dictator can be a blessing. But that doesn't answer the question of where Tony Ferguson fits into all this.

I'm a fan of both mma and boxing, and the majority of fights on an MMA cards are competitive but you're lucky if you get two competitive fights on most boxing cards. Boxers spend way too long fighting opponents they can easily beat and it's expected that the biggest competeitive fights will always have to marinade for a few years before even being talked about. Dana gets a lot of shit from the fans, but he has done an amazing job with the UFC. The sport keeps growing and growing under his watch. AS LONG AS IN BOXING THE BEST START FIGHTING THE BEST THEN.. No, i wouldn’t change their title structure cuz I like the 3-4 main Belts Whatever The WBC, WBO, IBF, & The WBA, cause then you have champions able to fight off many more contenders & it elevates the status of more fighters in the division thus giving more excitement and credibility to A Champ vs Champ fight, It Also allows for a champ to easily go up in WT to fight for that DIV Belt without it being a cluster fuck like the UFC Cuz multiple Champions keep the division running smooth(together as a group) so if u have 3 different champions n they each fight 3x a year, 9 Contenders Fights for the title instead of only having 3 for the year, So if the UFC/MMA would adopt that method, then When all the BS was happening at 155, Conor would have been a Champ & So would Tony & Khabib, Cuz prior to Khabib Winning Conor was the Undisputed Champ & Tony was the (IC)n then we would have seen many more fights for the belt n the division would have ran Smoothly, could have Had Conor Vs Nate3, Khabib vs Gaethje n Tony vs Dustin..then the winners in the Tony & Khabib Fights, Fight Eachother & The winner of Conor vs Nate, then fight Max, & that winner fights the other winner to unify the Titles, Giving us tons of Great fights over the next 1yr to 2yrs not even counting Contenders fighting Eachother. The UFC will never adopt those rules cuz they would give up all their power Cuz the sanctioning Bodies would be running it n the UFC would become the Golden Boy of MMA instead of the juggernaut it is as the UFC & I really like a champion getting promoted to super champion like a manny n Floyd did so if one guy unified all the belts then DEFENDS THEM a few times & holds them for a bit, then they get promoted so instead of interm-Belts like UFC, get regular champions & allow them to be able to become a super Champion, & so While that super Champ probably will only fight 1-2x a year n he can face the best contender or the best Champion & or be able to go up in Weight and challenge for the title in that division..which makes sure a division doesn’t get clogged up Cuz u still have a regular Champion & it gives more status to those fighters, for instance in MMA a lot of people look at interm Champions as not real champs or see it as a fake Belt or title, but in Boxing if u have a boxer has a main belt they are looked at as a legit Champion no ifs & ands or buts, n it’s harder to become the undisputed champion so when a fighter does unify all four titles it’s very special cause it doesn’t happen that often so it gives much more meaning to the undisputed Title, where as the UFC The title being Called undisputed means nothing because many times it isn’t undisputed, for example recently when Khabib Beat Al for the “undisputed” Belt, it wasn’t undisputed cuz Conor & Tony were both Champs & thus dispute the Belt, But prior to the IC fight with Tony n Kevin Lee Conor was the Undisputed Champ so When Khabib Beat Conor it’s pretty much undisputed besides Tony’s Claim as Champion due to his (IC) claim... also with the UFC Model many Lineal Champs aren’t because they have the 1 belt n strip guys who want to fight in the next wt Class n challenge for that title so the FW Champ Max isn’t the Lineal Champ Cuz Conor left that division as Champ n never lost in that Division in the UFC, & The WW & MW Title for example prior to this Interm Fight With Israel n Kelvin neither Champ Whittaker or Usman are the lineal Champs Cuz both wt classes GSP was still Champ when he left thus the new Champ never beat the/an Actually Champ n neither did any other fighter in the division..but if they had multiple Champs a fighter can regain that status by beating the other Champs in the division of 1 guy leaves the Div as the Lineal Champ... AND ALSO in GSP’s case if they would have promoted him to Super Champ at WW, then a another fighter can be Champ & Then if someone beats them theY beat an Actual Champ & GSP would still be the super Champ..., BUT THE UFC WILL Call Whittaker the undisputed Champ even when he fights Israel even though he is no longer the UNDISPUTED champ since Israel won the interm Title & Thus has a claim to the Championship thus making the title DISPUTED NOT UNDISPUTED..& FOR sure since the fighters don’t fight the Champs from other promotions then they are really not undisputed Cuz in Boxing anybody who is a pro at that weight can fight any other pro at that weight... so Rory & Gegard would be capable of fighting Woodley/Usman & Whittaker/ISRAEL..so besides the Disputes & Claims to the Titles within the UFC itself, u have the other promotion champions who have a claim to dispute the title also LOL... I wrote a book Like an asshole with run on sentences n mostly comma’s or .... haha Cuz it’s not an essay it’s casual Conversation which doesn’t follow those rules, BITCHES HAH

There were some noticeable instances of wrestlers forfeiting this season. I don’t recall many wrestlers missing any matches besides a serious injury but I could be wrong.

Chael is mostly right except for college basketball. There are always teams who quit rather than compete in smaller postseason tournaments.

The tennis analogy might not be an accurate one, mainly because the players have got a 52-last-week point ranking with different promotions and final places ib these contributing differently in the whole year point aggregate. In this way the top players are interested in gaining No1 Ranking first and then retaining it for as many consecutive weeks as possible, thus playing all the time and the top ones playing against each other several times a year. The total times the greatest athletes have competed against each other, the total number of matches tennis players play throughout a year, and the longevity of their careers proves that there's no shortage of incentive for great and heavily rich tennis players to continue performing to their fullest. In fact, and to conclude with it, it might be a good idea to "weigh-up" the promotions, start awarding points based on performance etc and give this kind of motive for globally great fights. It's different with fighting sports, I can understand it, but tennis rankings and the way they work could offer some insight and ideas as to how to make the product even bigger and promote even bigger fights, something we all want
