Teddy Pendergrass | His Only Feature Film Appearance (1982)

Teddy Pendergrass was on the verge of superstardom when on March 18, 1982 a car accident left him a quadriplegic for the rest of his life. On April 30, 1982, SOUP FOR ONE starring Saul Rubinek as a young filmmaker attempting to navigate New York's singles scene was released quietly in theaters. Filmmaker Jonathan Kaufer, at 24, was the youngest filmmaker ever hired to direct by a major Hollywood studio. Bernard Edwards and Nile Rogers of Chic assembled an eclectic soundtrack that included Pendergrass, who is seen performing "Dream Girl" in an early scene. Following the clip, is the full audio of the song, which has only been included on CHIC compilations and the soundtrack, which is currently in print. The film was released on VHS in the 1980s but has yet to make an appearance on DVD or VOD.

There will never ever be another Teddy P! One of the greatest performers to ever live on this planet! I saw him live back in 78' and I never forgot that performance. He worked the ladies only crowd into a frenzy and had women throwing their under garments on stage! He was something else.

Oh he was sooooooo handsome. My Dad was friends with Harold Melvin so I met Teddy when I was 4 or 5 years old. He kissed me and I was in love 😍, even at my tender age. You got me beaming two days in a row, back to back! 🙏🏽
