Teddy Riley & Andre Harrell Speaks About Bruno Mars on cultural appropriation

If Teddy Riley, Andre Harrell, Babyface, Charlie Wilson, Morris Day, Stevie Wonder - all these power players of R&B - have all gone on record saying they don't have a problem with Bruno Mars and don't believe he is appropriating, then why should we say otherwise? I watched The Grapevine episode in question and many of Seren's comments came from a millennial, so-called "woke" perspective. Almost everything in music nowadays is a retread or repackaging of something that came before it. If you are going to attack Bruno, you need to go in on the entire machine, the entire music industry.

African Americans need to be more militant in protecting the culture. You give people passes and it has erased your presence in the media and other platforms. Bruno Mars music is low quality rehashed wanna be music. The critical thing is that there are African American musicians today who are taking the RnB forward and they are not supported and lack representation, there music isn't selling. The likes of Roman Gianarthur, Ro James and others who are original black artists. Don't let people use your culture for a come up this rhetoric has been what has killed African American presence in the music industry.....

I love what they said about Bruno. He does music well, all kinds of music too. Bruno is soooo humble, he gives Black artist their flowers like no one has. He understands the feelings we put in our music. I share his Puerto Rican heritage and also Black heritage. If you go back and listen to some great music like Santana, Joe Battan singing I Wish You Love. You will hear how fantastic the combination of musical influences compliment each other. Im so glad Bruno went to see Babyface. Im so glad Bruno is part of Silk Sonic with Anderson Paak. They are making musical history. Im glad to have lived to see this. Silk Sonic came out of the pandemic! Talk about a Phoenix rising. I hope their is more from Silk Sonic. Love you guys for all the wonderful music you have made and you

Why can't we do what we like and like what we like??? Why does it always have to be a racial issue??? It's always been that way... Don't you people think it is time to change and evolve?? When I was younger I liked to listen to, play and sing all types of music and my black peers called me an "oreo" and asked me why I listened to "white music". But why does it really matter... At the end of the day, I was becoming more educated musically on different styles and genres and they remained in a small tiny box. When are we going to get to a point where people stop dissing and hating on other people for what they like and what they do and start just learning from each other. Because all these black Folk that are screaming Bruno Mars is a "culture vulture"...y'all are the real culture vultures!!! Y'all take and rake and take from the culture to say that you are a prt of it; bit what the he'll do y'all give back to it??? What are you contributing to it??? What work are you putting in to say that this is "yours"??? Culture is who we are because it is something were are born in and have been immersed in. If a white boy was adopted by a black family from infancy and was immersed in black culture...he he not a part of that culture also when it is all he knows??? If a black child is adopted by a white family and is immersed in "white culture"...why does that child have more right to black culture than Bruno??? That child is of black descent so is Bruno. But that black child has more rights because he/she "looks" the part... Right?!?! This discussion is dumb and black people need to be smart but also open-minded. Y'all just mad at Bruno because he played the game and is winning.

AMEN!!! WONDERFUL INSIGHT! AGREE! Bruno was born and even performed in his father's band singing doo wop music as a preteen and R&B fully as a teen, he starred in Michael Jackson revue in Hawaii, its in his soul, he's part Afro-Latino as well as multiracial, he can be accepted by all races and hes always credited his Black sucessors. This was brilliant to listen to. I love when the right voices cheer on the young blood. Recognise what’s important with anyone’s music and see them for who they are. Seeing themselves and the hard yards it takes to really make it in this tough industry. There are so many artists I’ve loved that don’t appear to get the recognition they’re entitled. That’s not ok. But as I’ve heard Bruno say, you just have to keep educating yourself to do it better. To work hard and study your instrument, write songs, they won’t all be good but one day you might just pull off something that everyone wants to party to. He’s a credit to his mom and dad, and his hard work, determination and respect to those he’s followed.

If we are going to be racist about Bruno, he is genetically part black. His father is obviously a Hispanic white but his mom is Filipina where he got his dark complexion. Filipinos according the National Geographic Genographic Project are over 50% African from the group who left Africa through the Arabian peninsula then to India until reaching Southeast Asia and Australia where exist the Australian aborigines. Aside from the Australian aborigines, the unmixed or less mixed groups today are the Aetas or Negritos of the Philippines, the Melanesians, Orang Asli of Malaysia, the Andamese and North Sentinel islanders.

He ain't no culture vulture. Every culture is there to be used by anybody. So would we say Wu-Tang Clan were culture vultures when they where down with Asian culture? Or Darius Rucker doing country. Or Aaron McGruder including elements of Asian Martial Arts in the Boondocks? If you can take elements of a culture that's not yours and add it to yours and create beautiful art, nothing wrong with that. In fact that's how great art is made. Besides, cultures are no longer mutually Exclusive. Cultures borrow from each other. Whites borrow from Blacks. Blacks borrow from Whites. Whites borrow from Asians and Vice versa. I think the lady who sparked this whole 'Cultural Appropriation' debate don't know what she is talking about. She comes across as just being salty. Then she had to show the world her stupidity by saying Bruno Mars is racially ambiguous. Seriously? When has he ever claimed he was anything other than Puerto Rican?

Over the last few years, one of America’s brightest young stars, Bruno Mars, has been accused of stealing black culture, a claim I find outlandish. If no one, but black people, can sing R&B, funk, or rap, then the reverse should be true: Audra McDonald can no longer sing opera. Jimmy Allen and Coffey Anderson can no longer sing country. Come on people. We’d be lesser off. Imagine the world without Hall and Oats, Amy Winehouse, or I’m sorry to admit, Eminem. God created everything including soul, R&B, rap, country; black people, white people, Chinese, all things. We are one. Reconize this truth. Music is owned by no one; only the Almighty. Yes, God gave us Bruno Mars. We own nothing.

I'm sure he has helped a lot more of her community than she has, the blame lies on society and the music industry Peter Hernandez does not have a say in what the music execs are after and honestly he is also part of a culture than has been as oppressed and the oppression is still going on now, do you know anything about slavery and human trafficking going on in Hawaii, Philippines or puerto Rico.. I really don't understand why some people own music genres as if they really own it? Given that most of the music genres today were created by blacks so should we stop creating music out from these genres because you own it and we don't have rights to use it? I thought MUSIC is for all? Why make it or divide it into certain groups? Blame the music industry not the person prospering from these music genres. If the artists you mentioned were great and super talented and were not supported then how about supporting them and help them advertise themselves? Why blame a person who worked hard to climb that stage? Those artists must do the same. Do more and work hard even more.

I think the problem is that great black RnB artist exist today but their music is not promoted by record labels. Only way for blacks to get promoted today is rap. @@faith2xxx recognition, awards, promotion and financial gain...recognition is only a small part. 90%+ of all new mainstream music sounds are pretty directly taken from black music yet the majority of "pop" artists aren't black, and they're the ones that get the most recognition, awards, promo, and wealth...the industry runs on black music being performed by nonblacks to be more comfortable for the majority nonblack populous. this has happened since the mainstreaming of country blues in the early 1900s. the industry labels send music conglomerates are nowhere close to being 90% Black owned which is proportional to its genre output. so its basically an entire industry that makes billions off the backs of poor urban black people expressing themselves and they only pluck of few "best and brightest" urban blacks to perform them before replacing them with nonblacks and they usually put those blacks on sharecropper-like contracts. @irobbartist60933 жыл бұрын
@@faith2xxx as far as the rappers who are put on sharcropper contracts where the nonblack owned and operated labels leach off their culture (they make millions where the conglomerate made billions)... they are either 1) expressing their personal experiences and thought processes from living in stressful urban life that was designed for them to fail and/or 2) presenting a stereotypical form of black because that's what the label will put their money behind. they're are many black artists on labels who don't rap about maladaptive things, but you see who is promoted...which then in turn makes the other rappers rap on maladaptive in order to get promoted
