@paulsture70453 жыл бұрын
@@Visitor555 If your a shrewd businessperson I am sure you could but it is not something I would recommend people to buy as an investment. It is not so easy to liquidate should the need arise, unless you have one of the few watches that are popular at the time. Just as in any business there is money to be made in flipping anything of value but that would be a job more than an investment in my eyes. I have thought about buying an expensive, over 10k watch as an investment I can enjoy but if I buy the wrong one and people stop being as interested in collecting watches I'm screwed. Better to stick the money into some mutual funds, a retirement fund or even crypto currency imo.

You can NOT go wrong with Citizen and Seiko. Fine Japanese craftsmanship for an affordable price.
@kaka123150 Жыл бұрын
you can. The case is to never buy them for retail prices, only on discounts. Seiko 5 is one of the cheapest automatics on the market, and for less than a 100$ it's a very good watch, but above this price it's not. Poorly made bracelets, easy to destroy plastic crystal, movement comparable to old soviet watches. But the price makes it cool to have few of them in your collection, when you don't want to have just one watch for every occasion. The real seiko starts from the presage series. Citizen's cheapest models also are "cheap" in terms of usage, you can feel that the materials aren't meant to last long. Especially the NJ0100 series. If you want to buy a citizen, look for radio controlled models, because that's something unusual.

They dismiss people, outright, if they have no interest or cannot afford brands above a certain price point. In an industry which is being disrupted and whose market share is being eroded by the emerging smart watch market, we cannot afford to be elitist. I was actually quite surprised to not see Invicta in the list. I am constantly at a loss as to how they can release high quality models with solid Seiko movements at entry level prices.
@timp.88202 жыл бұрын
If you watch this channel long enough you'll come to realize that Invicta isn't ever really going to get much love, particularly the larger ones. I personally have no issues with Invicta and own a few. Once you cometo see what Teddy like stylistically you'll get why Invicta gets little live. I chalk it up to a matter of taste. To me they're fine affordable watches.
@b.santos8804 Жыл бұрын
Invicta watches have a certain appeal to a certain demographic, and in and of themselves, are decent watches at very affordable prices. However, most of the ones I've seen are far too large, and far too gaudy for my tastes. A 52mm dial looks ludicrously large unless you have Aaron Donald's forearms.

I got into the hobby during lockdown, currently the collection is blacked out G-Shock, Seiko 5KX, Seiko Presage SARY147, and and Cocktail Time for my girl. I'm relieved that we'll be safe in the presence of a watch snob! 🧐😂

I'm just getting into watches and the Seiko's are the ones that really attract me. I just got a Seiko 5 SNK803 and want to get one of the 80x's as well. The Omega Swatch Moonswatches are what intrigued me to get into watches so I'm probably going to get one when available. I know they will probably be hated on but that's alright, I'm a sucker for themed things like that.

before even watching this, there are quite a few great budget watch brands; Seiko (mainly Seiko 5), Citizen (mainly Eco-drive), some Tissot, Casio, and Invicta.

I have my Orient Automatic from the late 60s, which was my first watch, and it will still start with a couple of shakes to wake it up. It also has day/date. I have a few watches, but I will always love my old Orient.

I have a Citizen 7 Eagle which I bought around USD100 a few years back. I'd say the 7 Eagle is a great contender against the Seiko 5 and it has something that the 5 didn't: manual hand winding which is useful if I decide to take it off my wrist for an extended period.

I have a Citizen Perpetual Chrono A-T. It is my everyday watch. I have had it for years, and I love it. I also wear a Cassio G-Shock that I have also had for years whenever I am doing something that could damage my nice watches. I also own a Seiko Presage Cocktail Time that I really like but dont wear very often. These 3 brands are great and make beautiful, quality watches for any occasion. I have others but these are my main 3. I highly recommend any of them.

Seagull also makes good TLR cameras. My first and probably last watch I ever bought is my Orient. I love it. Took a really hard fall on the bike and it took it well. I’m not a watch collector but I appreciate a good time piece. I was happy to see Orient because it was exactly how you described the brand. This was the best $200 spent. It’s an understated look but it looks fantastic for every occasion.

Good point. I have a friend who pops into the pub on a Saturday afternoon wearing a different watch to the one that he wears during the week. I have no idea of the make of either and I doubt he does either and that is exactly the point! He's a builder's labourer Mon-Fri and that's one watch: a man at leisure Sat-Sun and that's another watch x

I traded a $5 Timex for a Seiko in 1966. My bro. had got if from a fellow Army guy who had magnetized it. I kept it for 25 years until stolen from my house. A year later I found one just like it only with black face in a flea Market near Ft. Sill and the guy had run a pawn shop in Lawton. I gave him $20 for a box full of watches, including an Elgin, a Bulova, and the Seiko. Ran fine.

I think the Bulova 'Accuswiss' Chrono is worth including in this list. I have owned the ss/rose gold model for 3 years and it hasn't missed a beat. I paid retail for it back then but you can pick them up for around £1000 or less now. It has a sporty look which also doubles as a beautiful dress watch, and it's one of the favourites in my rather modest collection. Love your videos!

Good video friend! I think your spot on with the G-Shocks. For around $100 you can get the new ones in many different color combinations. So why would you buy a $500 watch when you can have five watches for five different occasions? And I don't know how they sit globally, but in America Nixon is a smart choice as well. Good quality and that 51-30 Chrono is smashing most other $440 watches

Well, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve come to appreciate nice watches. I’ve had/have a few watches here and there. I still have an old Casio calculator watch, I have a Timex Expedition, and a almost 40 year old Pulsar watch. But, I’m getting ready to take the plunge….I’ll be getting a G-Shock GWG200-1A3 very soon. I stumbled upon one of your videos on a late night KZbin scan. I’ll be looking and some dress watches too. My wife wanted a Shinola watch because she thought they were made in Detroit….we live in Michigan. Her father was a watch maker/repairman at Osterman’s in Ohio way back when. I did some research, and there’s no way I will waste any money at shinola. I stumbled upon your $30k watch shopping challenge video. Thanks for the great videos. And yes, I subscribed.

Great video Teddy, I’ve just watched a couple of your videos and you have helped validate a few of my purchases as an enthusiast, as I own the Vostok Amphibian, Seagull 1963, and a few JDM Seikos. Your spot on with the Seagull, I think it’s one of the best value watches out there. I swapped out strap for a dark brown crocodile leather strap, and it looks amazing! Problem is, I want more. Grand Seiko is an itch I need to scratch and thinking a 9F quartz but not sure if I should just save more for a spring drive GS… thoughts?

Glad I found this channel. I settled for the Tissot visodate and the sarb033. Even though I have friends who make a significantly more money than I do and have omegas and etc. They all compliment on my two watches. There was a comment that said something of “buy the watch to impress yourself”. Hear hear brother.

Of the 42 watches I have, 11 of them are Swatches. Each one has a trick or treat, like playing a Phillip Glass composition, or spinning the hands in both directions to start the timer, but my favorite is a Hamilton. I have watches that are fun, like a giant orange faced Body Glove, or a tall red Alessi that wears a rubber suit, a very old Swiss Army watch with a mesh strap, A Mickey Mouse and a Tintin, a fake Movado from the streets of NY (a Fauxvado) a digital watch with a secret camera and some classic Timex models.

The 1963 is the King of enthusiast watches. sadly many people are afraid of the "made in china" but the ST1901 movement is a licensed copy of the Venus 175 (which was used by breitling in the 1950s). All around an amazing timepiece for people that enjoy vintage vibes.

He did show off a Citizen diver with Eco Drive, but yeah I did wish he had actually mentioned how amazing that piece of tech is. I'm aware Casio has Tough Solar, but Eco-Drive is right up there, and iirc they were the first ever watchmaker to invent a watch that is literally powered by light.
@spencerlocke74432 жыл бұрын
I believe the seagull 63 stands up to scrutiny the best, when you consider the mechanics and the price, it might be the one the snobs want to hate the most but if they are being honest with themselves it’s only because they paid 100x the price for their Swiss made column wheel chrono. A true enthusiast will surely appreciate the movement and the sacrifice made when trading the name on the dial for the intricacies inside the case.
@ErikS-3 жыл бұрын
14:17 you state: “chinese movement” It is actually a swiss designed movement, of which seagull bought the rights AND the machinery to make it. It actually is a Venus movement... and these movements are just great imo. They can also be found in older Breitling watches. Excellent stuff.
@ohidontknow10613 жыл бұрын
That must mean the Austin Cambridge is a great car because we sold the rights and the machinery to make them to the Indians and they used them as taxis......
