Traveling to Spain & Reviewing the NEW Mido Ocean Star Tribute

After getting an invite from Mido, I am here in Bilbao, Spain, to attend their event honoring 75 years of the Mido Ocean Star, which also coincides with the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, a pretty fitting scene for a watch review if you ask me. In this video, I share my thoughts of this watch after a few weeks of wear and exploring the beautiful city of Bilbao. For full transparency, I was not paid for this review, however, Mido did help cover my travel for the event. I hope you enjoy the video!

My Swiss watches are all Mido. I have three Ocean Stars, one of them is from their last line, rare now and to this day hard to find. Also have one limited edition Chronograph. Thanks for this great video! Finally Mido is getting some recognition. I do love this new one, the colors are spot on.

I just acquired this model few days ago!😎 Just some sharing. Even though the lug size is 21mm, actually there is 2 strap/lug hole, inner and sightly outer. I try with my 20mm nato strap, is actually perfectly fitted with the outer strap hole. Is really an underrated timepiece that need more attention. Even in South East Asia, Mido is as that popular over here.

Mido is so underrated. One of my favorite watch is a Mido All Dial Diver in rubber strap. I never see other wearing it.

Great review of a great watch. Here in Mexico Mido is a very respected brand. Specially the commander line of watches. Usually the owners of Mido watches use them for a lifetime (literally) without any problems. I love this watch that you can get for less than a thousand bucks.

Owning it for 1 week now. I had issues with a very stiff turning bezel so it needs to go in the shop for a repair. But the watch itself is beautiful, super size, great clasp. Drawback is really the dissapointing lume, never the less choose it over the Ocean Star GMT due to it´s nicer case-size.

Thanks for the vid Teddy. It's surprisingly the only video review in English of this watch that's worth mentioning. I really like it's design, particularly the colour of the dial and its bracelet. 2 small downsides to mention on the paper: the day/date window is in white, while on the black version it's in negative to match the dial. Not sure why Mido didn't do a blue date background on the blue version. Second is that being all polished, it's going to get a hell lot of patina quite fast! The clasp on your test model already had suffered a bit. It scares me off, but I've ordered one none the less. Can't wait for it to arrive!

How do you feel that both case and bracelet are all polished? Does it got too 'shiny' on the wrist?

@@TheAriumm I love it actually. At first i had the same concern so i changed it into the other strap that came with the box(The blue one with more casual look). But i changed the strap back to the steel one last week to give it a try.And suprisingly it makes the watch look even better!I feel like its indeed a shiny watch but the blue tone on the dial and bezel balanced it out perfectly.And most importantly, the unique,retro strap really lets it stand out among most of the "modern" divers out there today. But still,if you are a guy that don't want anything too shiny one the wrist,i wouldn't recommend it! That's just my opinion tho,hope that helps!

Hey Teddy, I’m on vacation in Malaysia and just saw this at an AD in person. I have to say...I really might pull the trigger. Offered a decent discount and it looks great and fits so well on my 6.75 inch wrist. Also, never been a huge fan of day date or even date, and while I feel this watch as well would be very nice with a no date option, I actually don’t mind the complications in person! And my god that bracelet is unique and ultra comfortable

Really like this piece, it reminds me of a mint Tudor Snowflake Sub without just ripping of the Tudor design like some micro brands have done, so that's very appealing. Mido has a great history & the Ocean Star is part of it so I could really see myself picking up the blue dial on that sweet bracelet..

A while back when they featured my Titanium and my dog on their website, I asked them to next make a 40mm diver. They said Okay. The colors and polish here are not my style but I'll keep watching to see what else they do with this case. Like you say, the ratcheting clasp is awesome.

Beautiful watch, proportions are perfect, bracelet and end links are spot on. If this was around when i bought my Pelagos i might have got this instead and used the extra money on a vintage datejust or speedmaster pro. Maybe theres room in the collection for both 🤔

Mido is a very underrated brand nowadays. It used to be extremely famous in Mexico, Latin America and Thailand etc... in the 1950s to the early 1970s. The Swatch Group saved them from bankruptcy. Being part of the Group now is a great advantage. But the brand will never be great again, because the Swatch Group has many - nearly identical or look-alike - products & brands to position along with Mido.

How was the lume? It looks like the markers are weak. How was the polishing on the case? It looks like there are no brushed surfases. How does the polished bracelet hold up to scratching? The clasp looked scratched up.

The lume isnt Seiko strenght but it does the job for many hours in complete dark. The clasp and the whole watch is a scratch magnet, if you wanna baby it this watch isnt for you.

Looks great. But give it a GMT hand and GMT bezel and you have a real winner. There are so many divers, fewer great GMT’s.
