I own a speedy reduced, here are my thoughts: Pros: -Same iconic look of the pro -Affordable (relatively) -Automatic -Reliable -Hesalite (also available in sapphire, but I love the distortion of the original. Easy to buff out scratches as well) -8 beats a second, nice and smooth. -Says Omega Speedmaster on the dial (hell yeah) -Relatively thin for an auto chronograph in this price range Cons: -The bracelet. It’s too light, too narrow, pulls arm hairs, push pin link attachment, and the clasp leaves a lot to be desired. Still, it is comfortable, secure, and looks sharp. -The size. This is completely subjective, but if you are used to 40mm+ dive watches, it will take some getting used to. -Poor water resistance. (I know, it’s not a diver) -Scratches the speedy itch, but still makes me want a Pro. The biggest con, in my opinion. As for servicing, it is 600-700 US dollars if done by Omega. This includes a new crystal, new pushers, full overhaul of the movement, and polishing of the entire watch (if you want). I don’t think that is such a bad deal, but others will disagree. For what it’s worth, mine has not been serviced in nearly a decade and is still running great.

I would agree, if the Speedmaster Racing can't be had for the bargain price it's selling for these days
@iLL13374 жыл бұрын
ewt415 Just making sure I understand what you mean, are you saying you don’t agree that the servicing cost of the reduced is reasonable because the racing is so affordable?
@rousseau3274 жыл бұрын
@@iLL1337 Well, the servicing cost of the Reduced seems a tad bit unreasonable for a watch that can be had for under $2k, especially, when you can find the Racing for right around $2500 these days. Good price for a better designed automatic chrono, especially compared to reduced prices. While you're particular Speedmaster Reduced has been running great, you can ignore all the ones that needed servicing. That's the one thing i've learned in owning watches.
@SharapovaFan4 жыл бұрын
I too own the Speedy Reduced. Well, actually the Speedmaster Triple Date, but it's also part of the "reduced Speedy" line. For a Valjoux 7750-based movement, the accuracy is incredible. It's been several years (half a decade at least) since its last service and it's still only off by less than 5 seconds a day. My other Valjoux 7750 watches have better accuracy, but they're far newer. My Speedmaster Triple Date at least 20 years old now.
@rousseau3274 жыл бұрын
@@SharapovaFan Valjoux movements are generally quite reliable and easy to service. The Speedmaster Reduced that have their design almost 1 to 1 with the moonwatch use an ETA movement with a chronograph module stacked on it. I think these are still quite reliable, but servicing often means they need to replace the whole thing

@@zeddsquared7559 I have an approx 6.75" (172 mm) wrist, and it works very well for me. The lug-to-lug is not large and it wears smaller than its case diameter. Excellent review. I bought this not for the price, but because at 40 mm it wears perfectly on my wrist. I did consider the Reduced, but both my watchmaker and the Omega AD (who I’ve known for years) both echo your view that the Racing is the better watch all round, especially the 3330 movement. Mine’s accurate to half a second a day (both by observation and on a timegrapher), incredibly comfortable and, being the black dialled variant, looks as good with a suit as it does with casual attire. A great everyday wearer.

Perfectly right. There was an article on Watchuseek as well as a few ones on Hodinkee debunking the entire mess that many people unfortunately still believe. I've swam in the sea (what's on with that "swimming pool" nonsense? Go swim in the sea, if possible!) with a Seiko 5 (both a 30m and a 50m rated model), a Vostok Komandirskie (2 atm rated) and also a diver, a G-Shock and a 10-bar chrono (OK, this one was in a pool for like 10 min). ALL of these were fine; the Vostok had water getting inside not because of a failure, but because I wanted to "wash the part where the crown screws in". Yes, people do stupid things at times. The overbearing over-caution of certain people is just annoying !
@BluTrollPro5 жыл бұрын
Yup, the only real distinction I'd make is between 'water resistant 200m and 'divers 200m'. The former is the manufacturers recommendation, the latter means it actually adheres to ISO dive rating which requires so much more robust design than simply water resistance. Yet people seldom make the distinction.

@Mega-zi7ys5 жыл бұрын
Exactly! And when you walk into an AD try putting it on someone else's wrist and look at it from a 3rd party perspective it's really nice. The thickness isn't an issue at all as the case is divided into 3 segments and the rear part sits into the wrist, so all u see is the main housing and the bezel. The dome shape of the crystal and the bezel go very well together as well... when angled it looks really really lovely.

The main reasons I'm considering getting this piece are the thickness, the WR and the date complication. The 42mm moon watch is awesome and has great history, but I like my watches to be able to hide under a cuff, tell the date of the month (I know you can use your phone but I prefer it that way) and 100m of wr is welcome not only for swiming, but also to know that it is robust enough to withstand a shake or and active live style.

Interesting video Teddy. I've been looking at Speedmaster Racing models recently but didn't realize there were so many, I guess it's like Seamasters. I'm particularly smitten with the 2 register Racing using the cal 9900 coax. I believe the Omega Ref is 329.30.44.51.01.002 but I could be wrong. They aren't as reasonably priced but still look like value for the money. The 9900 is METAS certified which ads a lot of value with a saphire caseback and, in addition to the usual chronograph feature, the watch can track a second (2nd) time zone on the 3 o'clock register by leaving the chrono running all the time. Thanks for shedding some light on the world of Speedmasters.

I am debating between the Tudor Black Bay, Omega Speedmaster Racing (the reduced in principle), or the Breitling Chronomat 40. I wish I could pick your brain - I'm leaning towards the Black Bay personally. Seems like the best bang for the buck and provides a lot of versatility but I certainly am no expert. Still thinking of what the "right" decision is but I'm hopeful I make it! Note: I see this purchase being my 3 - 6 year watch. Ideally, I'd like to expand my collection with a true Omega Moonwatch when finances permit hence my hesitation on jumping into the Speedmaster Racing model.

Have the red dial version and I fricken love it. So accurate. 19mm lugs sucks but otherwise not many complaints.

As always… Great review Teddy… i’m very close to saving enough for speed master… I have a vintage but I’ve wanted to buy a new one for a very long time… You’ve really given me something to think about is I agree with you, it’s a beautiful watch. Thanks!

You should do a review of the Omega Dynamic III. Only ran for a few years in the late 1990s but its a great watch for people on a budget and smaller wrists (38mm)! And you can get them for a bargain!

I picked one up recently and 100% agree with you. It's a wonderful watch!

You're right about the stunning number of variations of Speedmasters, I didn't even know these existed.. That said, it's a nice looking watch and if the price is right, would be a nice alternative to a Speedy Pro. Good review Teddy

Super!! I want a Speedmaster to the collection, but not being a automatic watch I´ve turned it down, but this one I think is the right size and being an automatic watch I will look in to this! Thanks for a great video!!

Wish i had seen this video much earlier. I was lucky to get a nib grey dial on rubber from a online store a couple of months back. Love the 40mm fit and it looks great totally. 👍

I have a Speedmaster Reduced that I absolutely love but this will soon be a part of the collection too. I love the dial and the movement, I’m a sucker for the Valjoux rotor wobble. Overall, a beautiful timepiece that would make a fine addition to any collection!

The wobble is great. Totally alive.

I like Omega. Maybe one day I can afford one. I have one Omega. My grandfather's pocket watch circa 1923. Still running and keeping good time.

No small wrist for the Pro...6.25 wrist and it looks great runs like a 40mm keeping in mind the lug to lug is only 48mm. Great video and this white dial and co axial just perfect...a manual winding is not for everyone...

Gotta go with the MK 40 black dial on this one, Teddy. The Racing is definitely better than the Reduced though, for sure.

How do you find the thickness of the watch? Looking at buying it but have small 6inch wrist
@DavesWatchLove5 жыл бұрын
The good thing about this watch (vs the Speedy Reduced) is the spread of the subdials. Very balanced. I had the 39mm triple date, but there was way too much information crammed on the small dial. This seems much better designed and functional. Thanks for the review!

This watch would be even better if they added a see thru case back to show off the beautiful movement!

My vote is the all black mk 40 3520.50. Chrono+tripple date with day pointer+24h hand for $1.55-$2k used its a lot of value for $. Is also sub 40mm and wears thinner than it is. The domed sapphire that curves flush into the bezel curve makes the dial really pop

I was looking at Speedmasters and, based on your review, bought this exact model. I have a 6.25" wrist, so it fits nicely. I had a 2-tone Daytona for about a month and swapped it because I couldn't tell what time it was. This is very legible and has the date. My only complaint is that the crown is really hard to pull out without leaving part of a fingernail at the scene. It's pretty thick so I don't wear it under dress shirts. A great value. Keep up the good work, Teddy.

Thanks for the video. Enjoy watching vids that show smaller watches, the largest watch I have is a Orient Mako 2. Nice to wear out for a day at the lake but it just feels big.

ETA 7753 with hidden date pusher is a cool way to rotate the 6-9-12 sub-dials of the 7750 to the preferred 3-6-9 layout; it opens the top half of the dial to Omega's logo. Prices are a little higher than the 3511.50 reverse panda Speedy I used to own, but worth it.

Looking at buying this have a 6 inch wrist. Does it wear thick for 15mm or smaller than the size suggests?

Smaller, I have one

I will echo the other Racing model owners here; fantastic wearing watch and my go-to travel chrono. My only complaint, and people should ideally try this in person before buying, is that the crown is very small and hard to both wind when it needs it, and pull out. OK once you have it running of course as the auto movement is quite efficient, but if you switch watches around the small crown needs a fingernail grip to wind up once it has been sitting.

I had a Reduced second edition. It was hard to let it go. I sold it for a little bit more of what I paid for it. I really wanted to keep it, but I had to let one go after getting an Explorer II.

Hey Teddy, based on the 3330 movement of this watch - is it okay to leave the chronograph on perpetually to have the sweeping hand effect?

Great review Teddy. I looked at this watch last weekend. Really wanted to love it because it checks so many boxes for me. But, I found that the smaller case diameter coupled with its thickness just made everything look off when compared to its larger siblings. Dial looked busy because of the compressed spacing. Overall, I would pay a little more and get the pro instead.
@patq65235 жыл бұрын
Great looking watch. Excellent review. Short lug to lug is the key for a small wrist. Not enough people realise this.
@Mega-zi7ys5 жыл бұрын
Exactly! It looks awkward for many to force one's self into a 42 or 44 mm watch . The watch itself may look good but If it wears funny, it destroys the balance and the overall aesthetics.
@bradleywaffa51345 жыл бұрын
You make a strong case here for the Speedmaster Racing. Personally I'm partial to the 3513.33 which, as best I can tell, fit somewhere between the reduced and racing line both in sophistication and in price. Yes, it boasts "only" the Valjoux 7750 caliber, but the dial is sportier, the case is 1 mm smaller, and the price point is still very competitive!
@erinjoy83383 жыл бұрын
Great video Teddy! I recently acquired the reduced after wanting one for 2 years! I have very small wrists so it’s the perfect size for me but am a big space nerd so it was important to go with this version. Mine has the hesalite as well! This racing version looks cool tho!

You can swim with it. People are too obsessive with water resistance. As long as watch has been serviced in the past five years and has 50m of water resistance you are fine swimming with it. And I’m talking from experience here. There’s a reason why military spec for watches has been 50 metres water resistance. You don’t need more.
