@Peter Kotsa I don't look at Omega watches very much, simply because they are outside my budget for a watch. But I really enjoy your videos and the way you put these together for us. I have to admit, while I don't feel I need to have one, I really liked this watch. I really appreciate so much of the fine details they've put into the dial and layout. Nothing is grotesquely out of proportion, especially with sub-dials; it can be easy to get those "wrong". I especially like the pattern inside the sub-dials and I like the way the black dial ends in nice soft contours at the 3 and 9 dials. I was also pleasantly surprised by the dimensions! I am so used to seeing chrono watches with huge lug-to-lug, this is really nice for a change. My "grail" watch is a Ball Engineer M Marvelight 40mm with Grey dial, but I won't discount an Omega now that I've had a closer look. ;)

Nothing wrong with the Ball Engineer, lovely timepiece. As for this Omega, it is a long term keeper for me..I love it, but need to get some 19mm straps to be fully content. Cheers 👍

@robertolawata2372 hi mate, just checked my card and it was definitely dated. This was purchased from a Japanese Chrono24 vendor. It is common though. Some of the dealers don't date them and some do depending on the back door agreement they have with AD's.

I know it has been a while since this video came out put I just picked up a new black on block model form Jomashop last week and I am loving it so far. I do not disagree with any of our "hates" but non of them were deal breakers. Single most surprising thing for me was the weight. On my 20-cm wrist it weighs around 165-grams. A little heaver then some of my dive watches. I honestly like the extra weight but was not expecting it. I prefer smaller watches but when I opened the obscenely large Omega box and the watch looked tiny. I thought "oh God what have I done?!?!" As soon as it got on the wrist that thought was gone. It was perfect and the case is designed well enough to help disguise the height. I wanted the grey dial with yellow accents but Jomashop sold out of them before I had saved up enough. My second choice with the all black. I am so glad I ended up with that model. The dial is so much more dynamic then any of the photos show. The dial has a vertical brushing that changes from an inky black to charcoal grey depending on the angle. I find myself just staring at it. I picked up a Ali Express knock off of the Omega rubber strap but I have not been able to bring myself to take it off the bracelet yet. I know I am gushing but I think it is that good.

Great review! I've been wanting the iconic Moonwatch for a couple years now(or so I thought I did). But now I discovered that what I've really wanted is actually a Speedy Racing. Not only do I prefer the 40mm case but I've always secretly thought that the Moonwatch dial was too busy looking and a bit boring to be honest. I like that the Racing comes in various dial colors with contrasting sub-dials. Being automatic is also a plus. The only thing is that you don't get that nice domed crystal on the Moonwatch.

The pyramide-pattern is super. It has a function nobody talks about: the shadow-glare-shadow pattern secures good readability of the subdial hand aganst the subdial, regardless of how the light reflects off these tiny hands. I don’t suppose there can even be a light condition where the hands blend in against the subdial.

Thank you very much for your honest review. A speedmaster is on my list. It’s great that the movement and AR coating is so good, these are the things we expect from a luxury brand but I have to agree 19mm lug width and not putting more micro adjust on the bracelet is just annoying for the price point. I still don’t know why luxury brands don’t offer more micro adjust and tool less micro adjust for that matter. It’s unnecessary to leave it out imo when we know they can do it.

It's refreshing to see a review that compares the good and the bad as well as experience of wearing the watch. There are far too many unboxing videos often of borrowed watches or watches that that are going to be part of a large collection. In those cases the watches won't get proper wrist time so all you'll get is an enthusiast who likes to say nice things about watches nothing objective.

I have this speedmaster racing but in an all black dial. This watch come in a wooden box with a tool/date pusher. I myself was debating whether to purchase the moon watch or this, in the end after doing much research, this 40mm case size and the movement was what got me to pull the trigger. I understand about the clasp not having the slider to micro adjust like those found on their Planet Ocean but for the price of this Speedmaster Racing, you can’t really complain. I am kinda happy that it flies under the radar. But I gotta feeling that it’s no longer in stealth mode, prices are creeping up and in second hand market as well. The only thing that stresses me about the clasp is that it scratches easily, but a little of elbow grease with the scotch brite takes care of it. Plus while in Vegas two weeks ago waiting in line at Starbucks, I was complimented by an older gentleman wearing his Moon watch, asked how I like my Speedmaster Racing because he was looking into getting one. Ha ha ha. Only a watch aficionados would understand. I got compliments from others but it’s alway “nice watch, what is it?” I just proudly reply, “it’s an Omega.” Lol

Very impressive review, thank you. I love 38-40mm dials. 19mm lug width might be annoying when purchasing, but I suppose the original 20mm stainless steel bracelet would be too chunky and heavy for this jewel. All other observations are valid. Wish you this accuracy for the next 50 years. Just mentioning that date adjustment has to be done only 5 times an year. At least where I live (Europe). I tried it with some affordable mecaquartz watches. I suppose expensive timepieces are behaving in the same way. Of course I couldn't reveal this secret only wearing my watches more than an year. One month is not enough. 🤓

What do you need to use it for?..Are you into Chronographs and timing things?..then the Speemaster is a no brainer. If you want a very versatile watch, then you really can't got wrong with the Aqua Terra.. At the end of the day, its really a personal choice though..good luck and let me know what you decide in the end, would love to see some wrist shots too cheers

Great & honest video Peter. Regarding the movement, as it's based on the Valjoux 7753 does it have the characteristic rotor wobble from the unidirectional winding? Cheers
@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
Yes it does, but I LOVE that, especially in this watch it seems to make you know that you have a mechanical automatic watch on your wrist. For some reason this feeling works well with me on a tool watch like this..Cheers 👍

@@PeterKotsa Thanks for answering my question, I'm considering getting the mark 2 reissue Speedmaster which has the same movement, so wanted to check. I'm used to vintage Seikos where you can hear the rotor so I think I would be ok with a bit of a wobble, cheers 👍

@@Andrew.W75 I'll be honest with you Andrew, there are so many people on the net that rant about this and that for whatever reason. As savvy shoppers, we need be prudent in making our own mind up regarding what is good for one, might not be good for another. With this "rotor wobble" I have read about and heard about in many videos previously. For me like I said I absolutely LOVE IT !!! Seriously, we have become a generation of soft men if we don't enjoy the rumble of a nice V8 engine under the hood...lol There are watches that are quiet and sophisticated and drive like a Rolls Royce, I have a few of those watches. There are also there watches that you put on your wrist and go fast in a sports car and feel the breeze through your hair and your senses are heightened. This Omega is one of these watches..I love the rotor (purr under the hood) experience. It's what a motorsports watch should provide the wearer.."an experience". Finally for me it brings a big smile to my face every-time I feel it..I am alive an so is my watch 👍

@@PeterKotsa Ha yes I take your point & I do enjoy the sound of a V8 lol, I used to have a Ford Mondeo ST220 V6........arh those were the days lol, so I do appreciate a good engine noise! Seriously though the wobble doesn't put me off, I was also curious to find out if Omega had modified the winding to make it bi directional, but I guess they have draw the line somewhere. Thanks again for your reply & reminder not to be influenced by other people's opinions & issues, cheers 👍

I have the solution; buy a Speedy Pro! I have this watch, and: no crown issues (as it doesnt hack anyway), 20mm lug width, no fiddly date setting (its got no date either), its got the best croc strap I have ever tried... Sorry, all fun aside, Its one hell of a nice watch you have there - be happy ;-)

Messing around with pins and tooth picks to change a date? They can forget it! Omega or not, there is nothing extra ordinary in the appearance of this watch for me to deem it worth investing in! Thanks for a great review.
@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Miles, for me I am happy to overlook the toothpick date change issue. Like I said I like to input into watches, it makes me happy. But as a rotational watch where I need to set that multiple times throughout the month, it could become tedious. Cheers

@@PeterKotsa I get it Peter. What works for one, may not work for the other, but we all have to respect each others tastes, as that is a sign of our individualities. BTW, any chance of seeing some reviews on Square face/Cushion shaped watches like Certina DS Podium Square, Margrette, Anonimo, Glashutte etc? Feel like I'm trapped in the 'Round Zone' with every doing round face watches!

I find putting AR on top of a sapphire crystal very inappropriate, what is the point of having such high hardness and scratch resistance and cover it in an easily scratch-able coating.
@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
Correct. Personally I love the clarity, but with that also comes a higher degree of carefulness when using the watch (sort of defeats the purpose of sapphire) I suppose if the top coating eventually gets damaged or scratched, you could remove the coating and end up with an ar coating on the underside alone, like most other watches. I have removed countless ar coatings from old lenses and binoculars as they were so badly scratched. Thanks for sharing..cheers

Prefer the original speedie. I don't like the dials on this one. The 2 top ones are bigger than the bottom one and it just looks odd to me. Even on the video, it was irritating me. Great video though Peter as always m8.
@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
Oh now you've upset me Martin..LOL Just kidding brother. :) For me I always looked at the balanced sundials of the original Speedy and I do like them, however this particular one I have here has a slight quirky feel to it which I appreciate Omega took a "risk" from the safe "norm" and the makes me happy :) But. I hear you, it is a subjective thing, some people love certain things and others don't.. All good m8. thanks for sharing btw' cheers

@@PeterKotsa , lol sorry I didn't mean to, but I do like the detail on the dials if that's any consolation ? Omega have done so many variations of this watch, but I still love the original design best. Sorry but when you make something near perfect , just leave it alone. I think that's why rolex have done so well with the sub. Just gentle tweaks through the years. But if we all liked the same things it would be a boring old world. Keep up the great work fella, and how many watches do you own now ?? I've got 5 and I still feel I've got too many. I may go down to one, brave I know, but after wearing my captain cook for the last 2 months , when I put on my others , they just seem heavy. It could mean the end of my collection. Brave I know but I'm seriously considering it.

So the headline is things you hate but almost all of the video is what is great about the watch. The hates are also inconsequential.
@PeterKotsa4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say inconsequential, what’s the use of having a watch and being stuck with limited strap choices? Also the bracelet is of no real help as it’s doing damage to the case back every-time it’s in use. Do I like this watch?..no I LOVE it..and I made that clear, but I hate these things that could have made the experience so much better. As for the crown, it’s problematic unless I have decent fingernails. These things are not inconsequential, especially for me. Cheers
