It was a response to a line in Eminem's The Ringer in which he subliminally referred to NF as a "nfing recovery clone of me". While it wasn't exactly a diss at Eminem, it was a subliminal brush back pitch. But he did it with enough ambiguity that Eminem could get the message and Eminem fans could convince themselves that it wasnt directed at Em. NF playfully used that bar to prove that not only could he clap back, but that he could also play with words just as cleverly as Em.

I think what he means is that it’s a common well known response in American dialect that when someone says there’s no “i” in team that no thinking is needed when that statement is made to drop the T and A. The first time I heard it, I knew what he meant. It’s just a difference of culture and linguistics. It wasn’t lazy.

On the T and A concept in my opinion, it is ambiguous on purpose just so it can be interpreted many ways. NF does this a lot in his music too. Many do take it as a shot a Em. First the colloquialism "No I in team" is all about teamwork, not selfish, not pointing at one's self or taking all the credit and so dropping the T and A and he is saying that he is not arrogant, he knows it is his team, but I think he is also saying he doesn't rap about tits and ass, (T and A) and it is only him and those like him. Just another take on the line.

I think the Drop the T and A line was a diss at Eminem. Em had dissed NF in his song “the ringer” “I'd just be like everyone else in the fucking industry Especially an effing (NFing) Recovery clone of me” Right after the Team bar NF says “Write my name on your hit list, it might be the last time you wrote something Rip that cocky smile right off your face for thinking you're close to me Grab a can of gasoline, light it all over your self-esteem Selfishly, watching y'all helplessly pretend you're on my planet Shoot you out of the sky like you're punchlines, you are not landing” So shoot you out of the sky line made me think of kamikaze which is the album “the ringer” was on and that song was definitely a hit list with how many artists EM went at in it. Also Em compared himself to NF which Nf addresses with the “helplessly pretend you’re on my planet” NF also mentions burning a house with a can of gas and if you listen to “Forgot about Dre” Em say “Me and Dre stood next to a burnt-down house With a can full of gas and a hand full of matches” Also early in the song NF says “Hold’em hostage and watch’em scream” and n the “The real slim shady” EM says “And Dr. Dre said Nothing, you idiots, Dr. Dre's dead, he's locked in my basement (Ha-ha!)” I feel like almost ever bar in this song could be directed at EM. NF said in an interview that he did diss EM but I think he was just saying that cuz EM didn’t respond idk tho just what I thought of when I heard both tracks. NF definitely said he looked up to Eminem when he was a kid so maybe I’m just reaching lol

The casket trash bag thing is a reference to the 'Oh Lord' song in Therapy Session. That's what he means by his fans know him so well, because that's the album before his big hit Perception which had 'Let You Down' in. In other words, only his fans would have listened to his older albums and know he doesn't care about being buried in a casket.

The lyric on Apple Music says “Till I open up on the beat like all my therapy worked.” So he’s saying his therapy worked, he isn’t calling it his work. For the TA bar, T&A also refers to vulgar language or cursing. And NF says he feels like he’s the only one out here not with the T&A. Drop the vulgar talk (T&A), sometimes he feels like it’s only him dropping that (E,M -> Me). T&A literally stands for “tits and ass”

Yup! He was responding to Eminem The Ringer (Em SAID, 'LIKE ENEFING THIS CLONE OF ME) So Em said that as if he wasn't directing it to NF but at the same time he was and trying to set NF up (wanting him to do a direct Diss which was going to cook the beef) and NF did not take the bait, but he did what EM did in return. Which I think is the reason also for the title. 😅 Like Master like student I guess.

(1) regarding the debated Em diss verse.. the way I heard it initially was: in sports we (coaches mostly) use the no I in team metaphor ... but he turns that around and says that even if there's no I in team, there is still an "m+e". [Nate used to play high school basketball]. But it also serves as a double metaphor: no T and A (objectifying women in rap lyrics) = "sometimes I feel like it's only me." (2) yeah, the stephen king book/movie is "Carrie", pronounced like "carry" [KEH-ree].

Hiya Teddy - if you read this, I need to explain what I think happened with the ‘beef’. For the record, I don’t know if this has been explained to you comprehensively or not in the stream, but here goes anyway: First off, Eminem mentioned NF in The Ringer. This is fairly obvious. However, I don’t believe that it was a diss. As Eminem says, he doesn’t diss subliminally; and that is one hundred percent subliminal! On top of this, The Ringer wasn’t a song intended to diss very many people. He took jabs at whoever he wished because he could, and he had fun with it; but he didn’t actually have a problem with most of the artists mentioned, especially not with NF, who has done nothing but shown him respect. On those grounds, I don’t believe Eminem dissed NF. On NF’s response, however, things are a little more clouded (no pun intended). NF has very specifically said that he would not diss Eminem, as he respects him immensely and idolised him as a teenager; however, I do believe that he has referenced Eminem in multiple places. To be clear, they’re NOT disses, but rather references intended to reference Em for the sake of it. I think now that he’s on Em’s radar he sees it as an opportunity to reference him more; but he still doesn’t want to attack him (especially as that could end his career). The places NF has likely mentioned Eminem are listed below: Returns (all the final lines starting with ‘music’s superb’) CLOUDS ‘even my B-sides throw ‘em off like ‘how’s he do it?’’ MOTTO ‘Woulda gave anything, to be respected by the artists I was listening, to, but not no more - them days are history’ Hope this helps :D

I could see how someone from another country could maybe think it’s a lazy line, but it’s quite the opposite really. In the U.S. we have a common saying, “there is no I in team”. And there is a common retort to that saying, “no but there is a M and E or me”. On top of that people here commonly say T & A when referring to “tits and ass”. So he is saying if you drop all of the talking about tits and ass in Rap, basically the only person doing it is him. “Drop the T&A you only got ME”. It’s actually pretty genius!

Nate is a big fan of basketball, the "TEAM" bar is something that Kobe said to his teammates when they said to him that "there's no 'I' in TEAM". So considering this, I personally don't think it's lazy writing, just a reference/homage to someone he admired. Also I know people will say that he was taking shots at Em but that is simply not the case. From what you know of NF discography, if Nate wanted to diss anyone, do you think he would make it subtle? Especially if we're talking about Em, one of his greatest inspirations. And he said in an interview that he doesn't thint Em dissed him in The Ringer anyways so there's no debate here. On the off chance you see this... NF has said this was not a diss towards Em. That being said, I do think it was "an acknowledgment" of Em mentioning NF in The Ringer: "an-effing (NF-ing) Recovery clone of me". Insinuating that NF is an introspective copy of Eminem was when he made the album Recovery. As someone else also mentioned, NF mentions "Patiently Waiting", a song by Em and 50, but he's referencing the fact that Em has been in the game for such a long time and being from Michigan, he's waiting for it to be his turn. As it refers to T&A, that is a common acronym for "tits and ass". "There's ain't no I in TEAM, but drop the T&A sometimes it feels like it's only me." Most rappers rap about T&A, NF doesn't. It becomes a double when you consider that the two letters left can be used to make "me", which is a synonym for "I". It COULD be a triple when you consider that it could also be referring to Em." He also says "Normal to you is not to me", and Em has a song on Kamikaze called Normal. Also, he references Kamikaze by saying "Shoot you out of the sky, your punch lines they are not landing." Kamikazes don't land, and armies used to try and shoot them out of the sky. Another potential reference is when NF says "gun jammin", possibly referencing Em's feud with MGK. Another could be "stomping on your arrogant turf...", both of them being from Michigan. Another could be "Take your shoes off, you're in my home", a reference to the feud Em had with Lord Jamar. Another could be "grab a can of gasoline", a reference to Forgot about Dre when Em said "with a can of gasoline but still weren't found out." Another could be "pretend you're on my planet" or "stare at the Earth like this is not the place I was birthed", Em makes a lot of references to being an alien. "Real scary, carry (Carrie) the verse" from the horror movie Carrie. I wish I could fine it, but about three years ago I saw someone in a video in a car breaking down how basically the whole song is acknowledging what Em said, that it was probably a diss, but that NF still highly respects Em. Now, if you remember in Motto, he says that he would have given everything to get respect from the artists he was listening to, but not anymore. That COULD be a reference to that situation also. This song is right behind Intro 3 for me. Those are my two favorite, followed by Layers.

I'm anticipating his track Bullet off Hope will be 🔥🔥🔥. Also, NF has used the drum beat as bullets before in Real ("Pull the pen out my music is mind blowing ") Drop the T & A....he has talked about respecting women in his raps. It feels like it's only "ME" who is clean. Not lazy at all. It's actually more layered (no pun intended) than at first listen.

I heard that verse different. I want to believe he’s taking a shot at EM because he says “shoot you out the sky” (referring to kamikaze album) “gun jammin” (referring to kill shot single) and Eminem did mention in one of his songs before hand “all these Nfing clones of me” Paraphrasing, not exact wording. But i do believe theres some tension between the two artists

Theres been tons of specualtion. Neither he nor Eminem have openly come out and said they have beef or anything but everyone thinks Eminem took a shot at him in a song before this and this was a little response from Nate back to Em. Eminem had a bar in the song "The Ringer" he said "I'd just be like everyone else in the f****** industry, Especially an effing Recovery clone of me (NFing), So finger-bang, chicken wang, MGK, Iggy 'Zae, Lil' Pump, Lil' Xan imitate Lil' Wayne, I should aim at everybody in the game, pick a name"

Its been a common saying for many years that there is no I in team but thete is ME in TEAM. If youve never heard it before then it doesn't make sense if you look at it logically. But if its something youve heard for many years then you just know it as the saying it is.
