@alexl11788 жыл бұрын
Fonts can be considered art. :P

Big Gus yep, it's a form of personal deliberate expression which can be evaluated by the level of technique, creativity and skill involved, thus making it an art form... just because you don't like it, or don't get it, doesn't make it non-art, it just makes it art you don't get or like... of course if you mean "fine"art or "accepted" art then sure you can argue that a tag on the wall is not that... But lets look at why i think it's art: not only is it obvious an expression (which is all i need for something to be consider art) but there is also technique, skill and talent involved... the writer spends many hours/months/years honing their letter forms and dexterous control... they study other writers, they try different mediums, it's basically akin to calligraphy but done under intense situations (even life threatening) and yes there are some writers that are better than others, but bad art doesn't make it non-art...

this is dumb. KZbin comments cannot be vandalism. even if something harsh or unpleasant is said, it is not the same as destroying a company's trains or a piece of architecture. I am an artist myself, but the level of entitlement it takes to willingly deface property that is not your own is unreal. vandalism is a crime. I have no problem with graffiti, because it does not have to be on someone else's property. it can be done on your own or on cardboard or something. defacers should not be given a public platform like this.

Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with you. You see, Ted-Ed covered up not mentioning the history of modern-day graffiti as we know it and reduced it to only including the name of "Taki 183" on the visuals only for a couple of seconds, who is basically its inventor by a seemingly "Thought out" debate about the concept of graffiti without talking about its proper history. This is a serious shortcoming here, it does not teach you anything about hip-hop culture, of which it is an element, not to even mention Banksy. It's pathetic that such valuable knowledge is undermined, only because it comes from the streets it is made less valid.

i dont know if art is necessary based on its perception by outsiders. sure thats one reason to make art, but pieces of work can also be labelled art if the artist has, like you said, put their personal feelings into it or makes the artist feel something. music for example, may sound horrible to someone but was created under a specific circumstance that expresses the creators emotions. same thing with graffiti, seen as destruction and arbitrary scribble to some but could be an expression a feelings towards/of politics, humor, anger etc etc. in a unique way.

Obviously today, people that do graffiti might associate it with different forms of music, but this is not how everything begun and also we need to clarify here, that we are talking about Graffiti in particular and not for some other form or street art. Graffiti is a form of street art, but not every form of street art is Graffiti.

My town, I feel, embodies this struggle between the accepted and immoral nature of graffiti. Whereas we do experience a lot of senseless 'tagging' done by younger wannabe vandals we also have arrangements that range from something a small as a homeowner to as large as city hall organizing a city wide project where graffiti is used to decorate public and private property alike. Although I personally don't like graffiti my former classmates would argue that graffiti has a different reputation here, even to the extent that my school had an entire class devoted to graffiti art.

It's funny how people are like "Uh, graffiti is not art, they just scribble shit" but pictures that are just plain grey are sold for thousands of dollars to museums. Like, graffiti is art. You don't have to like it for it to be art. I could draw a simple line and declare it art because "art" just means something that is done on purpose but doesn't necessarily serve a purpose. Therefore graffiti is art. It's still vandalism if done on public or not self-owned objects/properties though.

Don't mask your true feelings in the creation of art no matter which one that may be. If you are not true to the nature of the arts you are not a true artist. Graffiti is a form of self expression. I think most the people that do these sort of things don't own property. Because if it was their property that was getting drawn all over they would be upset. But because they own nothing, it's considered high art apparently. It's obviously both art and vandalism. Not only that, but a way to signal to other gangs and criminals that they are in the area and thus make that area more dangerous. As much as people want to make this mainstream, it shows how much those people don't care about other people around them and only focus on themselves and their "rebellion" not realizing that just because something is in public doesn't mean that it's just for them.

Thank you. The entire debate about it being art or vandalism is stupid. It's certainly a form of art but it's also vandalism if you do it on someones else property. You're completely in your rights to do graffiti if you own the wall or have got permission from the owner. Otherwise it's destruction of someone else property no matter how beautiful it is.

whitepiano23 That's like telling someone that got stabed. Just recover from the wound and don't prosecute the offender. Or telling the vicitm of an arson to just buy a new house. Also grafiti can be hard to rub off and you might have to do it every day. If you really liike grafiti that much. Let people do it on your walls.

Granted graffiti done right can be art with respected permission. But if you look at my downtown buildings, well, It just paints the picture your living in the slums. Fly a plane and spend some time looking at downtown Jacksonville. You would think we were living in the purge. There is no moderation at all. It's everywhere and it makes me scared to go there. O - O it's horrifying.

simple chart to figure out if it's good or not: does it look good to a super-majority of people, wanted by the owner, and enhance to looks and value of a building or other structure? -yes: it's art. and pretty cool, too. -no: fuck off and tag your own shit. come back when your stuff isn't shit.

Graffiti and street art are not at all the same, sure they both use paint and do it on walls and stuff, but thats like saying a chef is the same as a knife killer, they both use knives right so they are the same thing.

*Is it art? Is it vandalism? No. It's both.* *Graffiti is, the art of vandalism* *Graffiti is street art, but street art, is not necessarily Graffiti* That means, that there are other kinds of street arts that are not Graffiti. Graffiti is: To get your name up and make it stay there. Simple as that. Everything that doesn't contain your name, is not Graffiti. Graffiti is something more than street art. *It's a way of life*. Its philosophy. If this was a real wall. This comment would not be a Graffiti. But it could very well look allot like it. But it could be something else, Maybe another form of street art.
