I broke on this one, y'all... Tears flowed as I listened to Susan sing the lyrics I've lived with all my years. I'm so proud that this performance was in her hometown, Boston...which is my home, as well. I met Susan through a friend of hers whom I was dating way back when. Wonderful person & talent not to be ignored. We jammed a lil' that night. Great fun. If you happen to read this Susan, it's Joe Nadeau... 'Hey'!! You're making the finest music on the planet... Congrats & God Bless y'all. Derek... You are an absolute conduit from the Heavens. Such a joyous cry... I needed it. Thank you.

The same Joe Nadaeu who used to sing for KWS? I'm a fan of yours as well as TTB if that's the case.

The sheer joy I get from the opening chords. And then there is the rest of the song!! Never fails to leave a massive smile on my face. I'm so glad the only versions of this from TTB are live. Great tribute to the 1971 live Allmans album.

Well Derek's finally done it. The finest slide performance of Statesboro Blues since his uncle Duane did it at the Fillmore in 1970. I knew it was coming at some point, cause this kid has an excellent ear. He never plays a bad note, and the microtones are absolutely on point. Congratulations Derek, you've given us a real heart full of joy with your slide brother.

Derek's uncle was Butch Trucks, not Duane.
@grundid446 жыл бұрын
I'm perfectly aware of Derek's lineage. I purposely wrote "uncle Duane" in there as a figurative compliment, because his slide playing has risen to St Duane levels. Now please don't write me back saying Duane Allman was not a saint.

Blind Willie McTell wrote and recorded "Statesboro Blues" in 1928. It was adapted to a more contemporary version and recorded by Taj Mahal in 1968. It's his version that inspired the Allman Brothers version captured on the Live at Fillmore East recording. richard -- "I am convinced that the future music of this country [the USA] must be founded on what are called Negro melodies. These can be the foundation of a serious and original school of composition, to be developed in the United States. These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil. They are the folk songs of America and your composers must turn to them." - Antonín Dvořák, 1892.

I love this band. I like Susan’s singing, but she doesn’t have to sing every song. Mike Mattison would be more appropriate for some of the lead vocals than Susan. I’m not complaining, just would like to hear mike come out more. I miss his voice in Derek’s old band. Please Susan, don’t Yoko.
