I’ve seen Duane play 20 years ago and was even lucky enough to jam with him on his dad’s guitar. He really has nailed down his dad’s style since then, the Arabian scale, volume swells, even did the finger tap one time as a cool homage, Derek liked that. 10 times more points for having to solo after Derek. I might have been too starstruck.

I was a huge ABB fan and then followed Derek Trucks Band into my late 20s. I was aware of Susan from her set on ACL. When I met my wife and through the dating process, our love for music brought us to the marriage of her Susan and my Derek before TTB and we saw Susan opening for Derek at The Fox ATL. I knew for sure that this woman would be my wife and we married in 08. TTB is our band now and forever. We only wish tix would come back down for the true blue collar fans, ya know.

In memory of Dickie Betts, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed is perfect. I can’t think of two better guitarists Derek Trucks (Butchs nephew) and Duane (Dickies son) to play this. Miss Elizabeth Reeds grave is located in Rose Hill Cemetery with Gregg, Duane, Berry, Dickie and Butch. In earlier days the guys would write songs in the cemetery and as a matter of fact Dickie Betts wrote this very song.

I'm going to address the elephant in the room. This is a great song and has great musicianship. But why are keyboard players still traveling with a B-3? Old, finicky, expensive to transport and maintain. Why not use a Hammond XK-5 double keyboard system? Or if you want the old look, the A-3? Much easier to transport. Who, outside of Keith Emerson, needs an old Hammond? And he only needed it for the spring reverb which he could abuse. Plus the portables didn't exist back then.
