There is, however, no rejoining the EU. Thats not, how it works. U can only join the EU, and the EU has repeatedly stated the requirements for u even being able to apply, and ur nowhere near able to meet those requirements. And u wont be, until, on top of the Copenhagen criteria, EU membership is supported by ALL political parties, so not until the Tories are enthusiastic about EU membership, as well as supported by a majority of the population substantially larger than 52-48. I'll let u think on, how many years/decades that will take.

Brexit is the UK version of the American Big Lie: it was never going to work as they said it would, because it was based on lies and omissions. The lies were that all the benefits that a Brexit would have, were a guaranteed "done deal", while the truth is that they weren't and still aren't. Almost none of the benefits have turned out as the politicians promised they would. The omissions were that they meticulously ignored the drawbacks of a Brexit. And guess what: all those drawbacks immediately bit them in their behinds after Brexit. The conclusion therefore must be that the voters in the UK were blatantly and systematically lied to and therefore made a decision based on a carefully selected set of facts and assumptions.
@Gert-DK13 сағат бұрын
I am afraid it always will. Each time the EU changes rules (they often do that), the UK has to change also. Staying in, could have kept the UK as a rule maker, now the UK is a rule taker. But nobody believed that in 2016. I hope everybody can hear, how ridiculous "Global Britain" sounds.

Can't happen fast. Not only does the UK need to align standards as much as any other country interested in joining would need to, but Brexit needs to be dead in UK mainstream politics. The EU is not going to be interested in a country that might back out again after any election won by one of their virulently racist parties.
@davidioanhedges22 сағат бұрын
Labour know they can't - it would take more than 5 years to rejoin, any whiff of Labour saying they are even considering it and the Tory Press (most of all press), and the Conservatives, would hound them over it, blame everything on the plan to rejoin, and engrain this in the public perception, if Labour lose the next election, the Conservatives would immediately cancel all plans to rejoin, and alienate the EU to ever trying again .... The softly softly, small steps laying the groundwork, but denying wanting to, means they can then apply in the next 5 year term and it might happen in that term ...

Your point would be valid if it were true. Labour isn't saying the UK won't be joining. A Labour spokesman did say: "As we've always been clear, we think that there's room to improve on the trading relationship with the EU, and we'll be having those discussions. Our focus is on rebuilding our ties with Europe, working with them on a wide range of issues, from trade and investment to security and defence." You should either listen more carefully or keep up to date with the latest developments. If you want to quote facts, that is.

Having a Customs Union treaty with EU specific to Britain but actually not in the EU Customs Union of EFTA is a good move. We need to tighten our borders because they're open to smugglers. Ed Davey is saying this. Better to align with EU. It pretty much gives Davey a Brexit question at PMQs every week. We will get nothing from USA even though Badenock keeps trumping MoU as trade deals with some US States. Please note: Basic economics - any tariffs placed on imports by Trump on imports into US, remember it's always the consumer pays!

Yes, your government now may prioritize immigrants from any country it wants, and say no to immigrants from EFTA and EU countries even if they are no burden on society. This is one great improvement, isn't it? Another is that EU rules against tax evasion no longer apply to people who use you for money laundering or, of course, tax evasion. A third is that your government can negotiate their own trade deals without having to coordinate with the pesky neighbours! And the weak protection offered by the Social Chapter of the Maastricht Treaty no longer applies. I think that would be a near-exhaustive list of the main gains. The question is only: Gains for whom?

Brexit was a vote to take back what UK never lost, in order to lose everything it currently had. These comes to my mind without checking: Removal of border checks ‣ Pet passports ‣ Visa-free travel (90 days in a 180-day period) ‣ Visa-free travel (beyond 90 days) ‣ Right to work, study, live in another EU country ‣ Removal of roaming charges TRADE IN GOODS ‣ Frictionless trade ‣ Zero tariffs or quotas ‣ Zero customs formalities ‣ Zero SPS checks ‣ Zero rules of origin procedures ‣ Fisheries agreement Benefit from the EU’s international agreements There were 759 different agreements signed by the EU on behalf of the member states with 168 countries. 295 concerned trade, 69 fisheries, 65 transport, 49 customs and 45 nuclear issues when UK left EU. UK lost all of these when it left EU. TRADE IN SERVICES ‣ Financial services passport ‣ Easy recognition of professional qualifications AIR TRANSPORT ‣ Single aviation area, full freedoms ‣ Bilateral 5th freedoms for extra-EU air cargo ROAD TRANSPORT ‣ Single internal transport market for hauliers ‣ Cross-trade operations ENERGY ‣ Single internal energy market ‣ Energy trading platforms EU PROGRAMMES ‣ Access to Erasmus ‣ Access to NextGenerationEU, SURE ‣ Galileo encrypted military signal ‣ Access to Horizon Europe

Over 60% of UK citizens want us to rejoin. It is the first past the post voting system that makes the incumbent government worry about rejoining being a seat losing issue at the next election. If the government change the voting system to PR and then support rejoining, winning the next election will be inevitable even if there are more green and Lib Dem seats taken. Which would be no bad thing as the greens are more socialist than labour these days.
