I have just got mine this morning via Amazon UK. 6 days from a German supplier and delivered to myself in Durban South Africa! Awesome service! The backpack can be used as a daypack without it looking like you running away from home! The side straps can be pulled in to keep the pack slim. With three ways to access your gear, it makes it very flexible to use. For day hikes, I roll up bubble wrap and put it halfway on the inside to create a divider and help keep the shape of the pack. On the bottom side, I keep a gas stove and other food related items. On the top side, I keep a rain jacket and additional clothing. Very well built backpack that is flexible in its design! Take the time to adjust the back system correctly. The pack works best just off the top of your bum. Highly recommended!

Honestly, I was reluctant to watch this review as I recently got a new pack and I didnt want to see I might have made the wrong choice. I got a Savotta Jääkäri L and used first on a 4-day "survival training"-hike in the north of France. It is heavy. It is also heavy duty, waterproof, bombproof and it has lots of attachment points. Totally differentt style of course, compared to the Fjallraven. But I like it a lot. It can be slimmed down too, by conpression straps and removable waist belt and removable top lid. I need to experiment with that some more. So, the review was very well done - like usual :-) But no, I don't think I made the wrong choice. Good to see you back! Take it as slow as you need to, we'll be patient! Thanks!

Ted Weirum, hi! Recently came back from the backcountry camping trip with the Keb 52. I carried about 14 kg 11 km and up 400 m. I really like the waist belt and how comfortably the load is carried. Although the word comfortable is quite relative; I was quite happy when I put the bag down at the campsite. :) Was the Keb 52 the bag you had during your winter adventure video? I just felt I would have liked a bit more room, but maybe I just need to learn how to pack better and not bring needless things. Plus, a bigger backpack would surely mean a heavier load and I’m not sure I would want that. On the way back I put the tent like you have yours; sideways under the top of the bag. I put the poles on the side. That was perfectly fine to carry and obviously left me with more room in the backpack. Thanks! We had a really good trip with great weather. Just got a little chilly at about 0° C at night. If you feel like it you could check some pics on Instagram @renedumont22 You would see the bag by the tent. Cheers, René

Hi Ted, If you were to do a hut-to-hut cross country ski tour, would this pack be up to the job? I am mulling between this and the Lundhags Gniek 54. The problem with the Gniek is the elastic material used in the side pockets, which I feel would tear and snag easily, or simply just loose it's stretch over time, as all elastic materials do . On the the other hand the Gniek has metal buckles as well metal fittings to attach a pulk to. Both packs apparently have compartments for a collapsable snow shovel. They really are very similar packs. The narrow profile of the Keb lends itself to skiing as one can move one's shoulders and arms more freely.
@TedWeirum4 жыл бұрын
This one definitely would do the job, I don’t know if you saw the small loops for connecting the pulk on the hip belt, it’s so well thought through! :)

Hey Ted! :) Me again still with a question left ;) Hey, may I kindly ask you to sum up the advantages of the Keb against the Kajka again? The Keb misses a LOT of functions in comparison, e.g. the un-clippable lid which can be worn as a bum-bag, the dry compartment, the frontloader, the HUGE sidepockets (perfect balancing!). I´m having a hard time seeing the advantages of the Keb here. The only thing I´m wondering is how the Vinylon-F/600D performs against the Kebs G1000.
@TedWeirum5 жыл бұрын
Hey brother! They’re to different bags, really great in both areas, here it’s down to personal preference. For me, I like the slimmer profile of the Keb way more, great pockets and a well thought out pack all in all. Kajka is also a great bag, I rather have the slim profile than the big compartments on the sides. The bag is wider, I found it rather strange to have to turn the pack around if I want to get something from the pockets and then something from the main compartment. I think the thought behind the Keb is more natural that way. Wet/dry area is nice I guess I never used it, I put my sleeping bag in that compartment. The chest pouch however is something I’d love to see on the Keb! That’s a truly great thing to have! I didn’t use it all the time but still really nice to have! Hope that answers your questions!
@dinnuwicaksono5 жыл бұрын
Nice review Ted. How the bergshell work so far? is it really high water resistant? Looks like the narrower shape than kajka give the keb 52 better stability and good load sharing. Honestly I much love keb 52 design than kajka, fjallraven did a lot of improvement with their newer backpack, it more aesthetics without losing touch of functionality.

What would be the maximum amount of time you would be able to go out with a pack like this? I understand it depends on how much clothes you bring and the climate, but say spring and autumn in south Sweden or mountain trip in the summer with a 3 season down sleeping bag and a 2p tunnel tent? I'm in doubt if 52l is sufficient, or if I should go one size up. Also, can you use the lid as a day pack or sling? Are there straps for that?
@TedWeirum Жыл бұрын
Great questions!! I was out for 40 days straight, I went with the 72l then! The lid does come off but there’s no built in daypack straps, hope they’ll fix that in the future, the new and old Kajka model has it!

Great review. Could you give us the actual specs/verify the specs given on the fjällräven homepage? If the dimensions are correct, the Keb is nowhere near to be compared to the kajka or the abisko, for it would just be a smaller backpack (even the keb 72 would be a lot smaller than the abisko 65).
@TedWeirum4 жыл бұрын
This is the second time I read about this, maybe there’s something wrong on the website, I definitely think it’s comparable with the bigger packs that Fjallraven offers.. maybe it has something to do with the dept of the pack.. I’ll see if I can measure it!
@kagemurai4 жыл бұрын
@@TedWeirum So I ordered both. The specs are correct. I get why you like the keb, for the materials used are better as well as the overall design. Functionallity is better on the abisko for my purpose. But what got me to keep the abisko was, that the keb 52 is just way too short for my back. It seems to be fitted to smaller people (that might be different with the keb 72). I prefere the possibility by the keb to remove the top, but I will probably include this with g-hooks on the abisko in the future. The abisko is a lot bigger than the keb 52 and you can open the whole front. The side pockets are easyer to use (in the keb it looks nicer, but you always will need to adjust to the specific item you put in them), the top includes a rubberband for rainjackets or else, you get more flexibility with those removable straps. What I dislike on the abisko is the fact, that it has a similar material as the deuter products (and other backpacks like osprey or else), the non removable top, the design and the heavy bottom (yes, it will stand up and is probably more resistant to water, but it just is a lot of unnecessary weight). In the end it just fits my back way better.

Awesome video! Helped me decide to buy a Keb 52. I'm curious, I find the water bottle pockets on the Kajka 65 to be amazing but the pockets on the Keb 52 to be incredibly poor. They're so finicky with sizing and having to undo and redo the compression straps each time to secure a bottle. Has this been your experience as well? Just an odd miss on an otherwise nearly perfect pack.
@TedWeirum5 жыл бұрын
I get what you mean, I like the two entrances for the bottle on the kajka as well, however I found it better to keep the bottle just standing upright so the water doesn’t go back and forth, that’s annoying trust me! It’s an extra strap but it’s there to secure the bottle or help slim the pack down, so far I haven’t had any issues with it. Let me know how you feel about it after some time! Happy hiking!

@@TedWeirum There are very beautiful nature sites in Alberta but it is all regulated and maintained including the crowded campground sites. Most things are set up for day excursions so a person can leave the city in the morning, and return home in the late afternoon, having experienced half a day of adventure or you can stay at a hotel in the mountains. Hi. Great review. I’m quite new to multi day trekking. And I wonder if 52L would be enough for 2-3 (max 4-5) days trekking? Or something like Fjallaven classic? Lots of people (and locals who prefer bigger sizes) recommend to take over 65L to take all items (tents, sleeping bags, lamps etc...) but I would like to take as simple as possible. So would 52L work? I prefer to take smaller ones if available. And also Q2. What’s the jacket you’re wearing? Seems like fjallaven hoodie but wasn’t able to find similar one on local website. It would be appreciated to have your opinions. :) And thanks for great review on the bag!

Ted Weirum thanks for the information and your opinions. I’ve enjoyed watching Your fjalllaven Classic video but never knew it was this bag. I’m pretty sure I’ll be moving forward to this bag. 😃👍 Locals here in Korea, not sure why, strongly recommend (even fjallaven employees) Kajka 65 than Keb 52. They told me it wouldn’t be enough and 52 won’t be able to hold all items for multi day trekking. I think you would have been asked this questions several times but any goods and bars comparing to Kajka 65? Besides the size? Something like smaller pocket size, not easy to modify the straps or pack size. Not easy to attach poles or items. etc. anything you have experienced. Sorry if this was duplicating question, but wasn’t easy to find satisfying answer to this.

Geat review! I was really up for the Keb72, but the lack of a divider for the lower compartment is a dealbreaker for me... In 65+ l backpacks you'd be packing quite some stuff. That divider sits in almost any other backpack of this capacity. It makes sure you can take out your sleeping bag and matress through the lower zipper, without the risk of your other stuff shuffling down and messing up your packing.

Hey Mads! I would ask myself if I needed the extra room that the 72 offers, if yes then there’s no question. Hey Ted, long time no see ;) I am glad you are back and I hope we're going to see more of you from now on. First off let me say that I like how you set the mood at the start with that music and some b-roll (and frogs :D ) just after your intro as well as towards the end of the video. I really liked the music that plays at 4:52. It goes very well with the shots. Also the video is informational and I do like it as a whole. This particular backpack's color is very nice, kind of stealthy. I own Kaipak 38 and I was thinking about purchasing a bigger pack as well. I am debating between a more technical pack like this one with higher weight and an ultralight packs which are quite popular these days. Now on to what I would improve (subjectively of course). The first thing requires an investment so I guess it might not be completely warranted at this point and it's completely up to you if you do it or not. When Abe is filming (i.e. 1:57 - 2:04 or 3:24 - 3:28) it seems the shot is quite shaky. My guess is it's because he's holding the camera in his hands. A camera stabilizer would solve this. Also I noticed in these hand-held shots that sometimes the camera goes out of focus for a second before readjusting. I admit I am not that experienced but wouldn't it be better to set the focus manually since you are being filmed from a set distance even though the camera is moving from one item to another when you are speaking about them? Keep it up with the videos, consistency is a key on YT, or so I've heard :P --- Michal

Hey brother! Thanks for your comment and your tips! Usually when we go to film abbe is filming stuff for his channel and therefore he’s trying out new gear. It’s a great way for us both to help each other out, I get what you mean with a stabilizer and sometimes we bring one with us, this time we decided not to instead it was literally a more hands on approach, but I’ll take your tips with me for to coming videos! Consistency is definitely key around here as with most other things, in order for me to be consistent I need to find balance in what I’m doing, that’s been one of the things that I’ve been working on lately! I hope all is well with you and yours, once again thanks for your great comment! Until next time, Ted

4:14 "I can fit my laptop here" Why would you possibly do that? Why don't we enjoy laptop-free life for a week?
@TedWeirum Жыл бұрын
Hey Peter! I couldn't agree more! just wanted to mention it in case people will use this for backpacking travels where they'd might want to bring their computer! I have stayed Laptop free when using this backpack! Thanks for your comment! :)

@@TedWeirum OK Ted, I see! I just noticed this laptop-option after I had seen a few youTubes about certain camera-shoulderbags which also can accomodate laptops - to my surprise. Wishing you happy (computer-free) walks!!

my favorite design of water bottle pocket is the one that has bungee cord and cord lock that you can tighten or loosen instantly, my old school north face recon and my brother's old north face borealis have that design, but north face as well as pretty much every brand that used that design in the 90's moved away from it and i have no freaking idea why. the design in this pack isn't as good as the one i mentioned, but its still good that you can tighten the content of the pocket to secure it in place
