Devdutt Pattanaik is a self-taught mythologist, and the author (and often illustrator) of several works on aspects of myth.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

Actually, some of his ideas bring fear to organized religions and cults. Some will even go as far as to call him a Mayavadi. Only open minded people will take some value from the gems this man shares.

Very enlightening for those who wish to look beyond themselves & religion. The Caucasians / Western cultures can take a encyclopedia of lessons from Indian Mythology & Cultural teachings and be more educated in how humanity is viewed in the current context of world order / disorder for the better.

Question is when Indians are learn lessons from Indian Mythologie and Cultural and stop preaching Muslims appeasement as humanity to the world. It is the India who need to be sorted not the world. World is doing great.

One thing I like about him is that he does a good job not offending people. Instead of saying "religion" or anything of the sorts, he says "myth" and "culture". Although, it is clear that he is speaking about religion, and clearly he is an agnostic.

"... where even the helpless have rights.." ? What was he talking about? I couldn't finish and see his point, as I pictured him keeping his cool in a cage with a starving pissed off lion... I'm not in control so I guess that makes his point.

+Knowledge Sprit And you know it for a fact? how so? Stop this self proclamation BS! Did you even know what was present 5000 years ago? If there were such kings and rulers in India back 5000 years ago then why is India still a shithole besides such a rich past? No answer to that, have you any? Don't be an idiot.

+Knowledge Sprit Wow!!! You know that??? But do you have ever read this speaker??? And do you even know how many versions of Mahabharata are there??? And do you know one of it was researched and written by this speaker with in deep and much liberal way of explanation... Dont feel offended but do gather knowledge of accepted researched facts regarding the written facts of Mahabharata and try not to criticize the knowledge of a person who is the best in it...

+Jay D Not everything is about innovation from a scientific point of view. The word "innovation' is as diverse as the word 'education'. This speech was about self-learning, knowing who we are and why we behave a certain way, that can be also termed as 'innovation' since he puts out views or notions that we might not have thought of before.

shikhar s Good to know your interpretation of 'innovation' as well. To quote "...This speech was about self-learning, knowing who we are and why we behave a certain way,..". Is that to be referred as 'innovation' or 'discovery' / 'self actualization'. I would consider myself heaped too rich in authority should I term that as 'innovation'! Anyway, cheers!
