WOW, this talk actually brought me back to reality. I ocassionally get lost in my optimism and forget about the world we live. I was flying high as a delusional idiot and this talk brought me back where i belong, down on the ground.

This is what the world needs. But the masses are so focused on getting rid of negative energy and staying positive all the time as if that's realistic. It's so fake. We need to embrace all of our emotions. Pretending to be happy all the time ... What sort of growth does that lead to?

Thanks Mr. Crosby, I really appreciated that part about your not that great because just about everyone today are so hype on themselves which gives them that sense of entitlement. I believe this generation feel so entitled because of media and their parents felt the need to praise them for every little thing they do. So like a father/mother being praised for babysitting their own child. Why is that, when he/she is doing something a good parents suppose to do without any.accolades,

In kindergarten, I was made to feel special since my sister (7 years older) & popular in school would encourage me to sing Bill Haley's and Elvis Presley's songs. I'd have just been 'cute' and definitely not 'talented'. The applause I got made me feel 'special'. Then the crucial thing happened - a family financial crunch made me to change schools and jump from kindergarten to 5th Grade. The new class teacher of course found me quite backward & never concealed her contempt.I never recovered!

Excellent insights! I loved the part where you talk about fear and worrying about the wrong things (starting around 11:57). You are a great presenter!

Love this! However, the notion that our ideas are not that great is a tough one to grasp because it is counterintuitive to what we've been taught.

You would figure that the people who put these Ted x Talks together would find a sound man that was capable of getting all the hum and feedback out of the PA. It takes away from the talk. Should Ted x Talks ever come to the Pacific Northwest, I'm offering up my skills as a soundman.

You'll find the true meaning of gifted one day, when you look it up :P Then you may be on the path to finding out if you are gifted at anything. But, you gotta get off your ass to find out. And it all starts with understanding what gifted means - and how your feelings toward the term, and finding it insulting are unfortunate, but a non-sequitor and not logically connected. The stuff that you worked hard to do well feels better than the stuff you do freaky well by genetics without trying, tho.

The idea of being "gifted" is an insult to those who had to give years of their life to improve and master a craft. The idea that it was just dropped into their lap by a higher power instead of hard work and sacrifice. There are no gifts. No super powers. We aren't the X-men. Just humans wanting more than partying and watching reality tv shows.

I found it odd that you gave us reasons why not to feel special. Then you told us you feel were all crazy, and compared crazy to Martin Luther King Jr. Who I think most people would consider "special". I think you kind of took point 1 and point 2. Not special, tied them with us all crazy, Then compared crazy to MLK Jr. So icwhutudidthar.

What is the aim of your talk? It's scary that someone so qualified can give such an ordinary motivational talk. I cannot believe that anything in here would help an olympic athlete or anyone aspiring to improve. Completely random, negative and nothing what your parents and friends should have told you long ago. But I come from another country with different ideas and better comedians.
