I wish I’d watched this TED talk earlier, I feel like I’ve heard the same message hundreds of times but this really resonated with me. I’ve always been a naturally anxious person, but feeling gratitude is a great thing to do on a daily basis, it’s basically a practice to keep yourself grounded.

I live this way and I have overcome things that most humans could not survive, and over a span of 15 years, I have had 4 separate Doctors tell me so. Gratefulness as well as graciousness are life savers. I didn't realize it but I'm a person who will not give up nor give in because it makes no sense for me to do so. My sister once called me a "scrapper" but that's not the case. It's more of a moving forward. I love the quote from the Patsy Cline story (Sweet Dreams) "Somebody's gotta be happy, it might as well be me..." That gave me a strange sort of courage because it reminded me that happiness is a God given right and so that also includes me. So all of the abuses that I had suffered needed and answer and it was not to quit, but to thrive. The credit goes to the creator who's love showers all humans if they would just look up...and be grateful.

Top speech. It really does takes seconds to change your mind/life. And if you really do move with purpose you can pretty much achieve anything. And if you fail you fail, learn, get up and go do. Fear? What's that? I remember months ago when we were in lockdown, sick, losing loved ones, losing incomes, losing businesses and houses...and now I have to be scared of life throwing anything else at me?🤣 I promised myself if I get through that, I'll never take anything for granted, work harder and smarter never to be in any sh!tty position again.

It's the allegory of Jesus on the cross. He is the metaphor for spiritual and intellectual enlightenment. And where does enlightenment die? Between two thieves that steal you away from living in the now. Those two thieves are regret for the past and fear of the future. Depression and anxiety. There is only the eternal right now.

"Man's immortality is not living forever. Every moment free from fear, makes man immortal." Alexander the Great (That's because, when you break yourself from fear, your thoughts go on forever). In life, we don't get what we deserve all the time. We get what we expect. Two ways to NOT feel afraid: 1. "It's impossible to be fearful and grateful at the same time." 2. Be intentional with our decisions/choices.

There’s a stoic practice of confronting your fears directly that has helped me be able to access this kind of message. Wishing it away, trying to overcome it, wanting to be fearless all worked against me but writing down my biggest fears and looking at the practical things I could do to prevent or overcome the worst outcomes gave me my life back. Had I not done this then the sudden death of my SO last year would have destroyed me.

Because when God sent Adam and ave down to earth , he told them , “ those who follow my guidance, should have no fear or sadness “. Strange that there are so few responses to this excellent talk. Fear is indeed one of the most crippling emotions there is, and overcoming fear the most valuable asset you can develop. Some fear has a function and its wise to distinguish between justified and unjustified fear. But most fear the latter.. I would love to have seen a transcription of the poem he recites in the end.

As an Arab Palestinian, who lives in the Middle East, i need to put extra effort to overcome fears, people around me are fearful to step one step forward. People here fear from uncertainty, unpredictable future, and of becoming jobless, i rarely see someone takes risks. Or doing things audaciously,

Robert Grant gave a very inspiring and poignant lecture. Robert Grant seems to have remained humble in spite of his tremendous success in life. I believe he understands, "There but for the grace of God go I. " The world would be a much better place if people stopped looking at their phones and electronic devices and gossiping about each other and devoted that attention to making sure that the emotional needs of their children are met.

Fear, and it's sibling, hope keep us mercilessly chained to the past or the future, and prevent us from living in the present.

I think you've got that wrong. You can hope to do something that you will get it done, no matter the amount of fear it gives, you will get it DONE!! It can be "sibling's rivalry", but cannot agree for anything less.
