A caveat is necessary here - this quote works only in capitalism. In capitalism, everything must be a product and have a price, so anything that appears "free" is paid in some other way. In other economic systems, free things exist. For instance, open source software is a good example of truly free stuff (and how actually free stuff should work).

I lost 20kg. I was promoted at work and bought a house and am now able to be there physically, financially and emotionally for my teenage children. Time is the subscription fee. I just calculated it for myself. There are 1,440 minutes in one day, and I’ve spent 56 of those minutes on Facebook alone today. That’s 4% of my day spent on Facebook. It’s 12:49PM, and to take this a bit further, I figured I’ve spent 120.5 minutes(8% of my day) on my phone as a whole, although I’m not sure if I should count Spotify(music while driving). Roughly 8% of my day has been lost to social media. I could be practicing my photography with my new camera, sketching, reading, playing with my pets, gardening, ANYTHING- in the end, all we want is more time, and we are spending(wasting..?)it on social media.

i’ve come to the conclusion that for most people the only thing it’s going to be able to take is to get rid of their smart phone. It’s an extremely hard habit to break and when it’s there it’s like having a pack of cigarettes there in front of you when you try to quit smoking.

This made me realize my actual life is very short. I can't get lazy and push off what I should do today because today will never EVER come back. 90 is too optimistic. I've seen some people die at 50 or even younger. Even if you live to 90, you have to start accounting for surgery and recovery times, funerals, mortgage, raising children, your deteriorating health, alzheimer etc.

I spend a lot of time on screens. But that's also where I learn the most things. I personally don't think screen time is a bad thing. The internet is like a unlimited library. You could learn anything you want for very little money of free on the internet. It's a great tool if used correctly that is.

The stories that I could've write that i did not because my head always says that "Let's go find some motivation while scrolling through social medias" then just when I realized that I should be writing, I already wasted hours and and that made me feel unmotivated. It's a cycle really.

I have been trying to reduce my screen time for Social Media, and by the way it is designed, and how addicted it has been, has been the hardest thing for me to change, but after a semester, I can go a whole few days without going on my phone no problem. Now working on helping my younger siblings reduce their screen consumption which has been even harder
@pakshaal_jain Жыл бұрын
That's great, can you share some tips
@shintyty9 ай бұрын
@@pakshaal_jain Yes of course! I have tried many things, but it was alwasy difficult to improve past a certain point. I think removing what you don't need from your phone is good, but what I learned from a phychology video is that your environment always wins no matter your intentions over time. An analogy would be like even if you want to be warm and wear jackets, if you live in a freezer, you will eventually become cold. I find that it is similar with social media, and so for me the best thing to do was to set your environment the best you are set up for success. For example, when you don't need to use your phone, you can put it out of sight and reach, so you are no longer using will power to avoid it, or you can take the leap and sometimes go on with your day leaving your phone behind if you can do that. I found it the easiest way to become less addicted, and there are lots of things on your phone that you could transfer onto maybe like an tablet if you have one. But at first I felt so much fear going anywhere without my phone, but now I feel at peace and I don't think about my phone anymore which I love. Now I usually carry a notebook in my pocket most of the time instead most the times.

This talk has at least 10 so powerful and mind-bending statements delivered by Dino that I literally had to pause the video to let "that" sink in so that the enxt time I rush to "avoid FOMO", I don't forget to miss on "living". We definitely need more discourse on this topic before it gets too late. ❤
