I met a wonderful woman who also loves crazy cycling adventures and we share so much great time together doing the thing we love to do. My mental and physical health has improved exponentially. I lost 20kg. I was promoted at work and bought a house and am now able to be there physically, financially and emotionally for my teenage children. Time is the subscription fee. I just calculated it for myself. There are 1,440 minutes in one day, and I’ve spent 56 of those minutes on Facebook alone today. That’s 4% of my day spent on Facebook. It’s 12:49PM, and to take this a bit further, I figured I’ve spent 120.5 minutes(8% of my day) on my phone as a whole, although I’m not sure if I should count Spotify(music while driving). Roughly 8% of my day has been lost to social media. I could be practicing my photography with my new camera, sketching, reading, playing with my pets, gardening, ANYTHING- in the end, all we want is more time, and we are spending(wasting..?)it on social media.

I agree with him on quitting social media but he doesn't need to pressurize on utilizing the free time. We can as well enjoy our time spent our work, sleep, hygiene. They are productive and contribute to a fulfilled life.

This talk has at least 10 so powerful and mind-bending statements delivered by Dino that I literally had to pause the video to let "that" sink in so that the enxt time I rush to "avoid FOMO", I don't forget to miss on "living". We definitely need more discourse on this topic before it gets too late. ❤

I think this is the only KZbin video, of more than a couple of minutes in length that I have watched to the end, without reading the comments, in a very long time. That tells its own tale about both its value and also about me.

Let me just say that even if I quit social media, most of the people I am with are glued to their phones instead of being present in the moment. So there I am, either staring at my plate on a table or groups of people passing by. This is just inevitable. Whenever I say something, it does not come across at times because their attention is elsewhere. 😢 I long for an era I have never even been in. Life was simpler with beepers haha. When I was a kid, my mom had a beeper and I would just tell her if I was going out with friends in the neighborhood so she would not have to worry about me. That was life. ❤

I spend a lot of time on screens. But that's also where I learn the most things. I personally don't think screen time is a bad thing. The internet is like a unlimited library. You could learn anything you want for very little money of free on the internet. It's a great tool if used correctly that is.

Funny thing is social media is said to connect us more but i feel so disconnected ever since I started using it despite virtually communicating back and forth with people on the daily. When I didn't use social media I was so connected with people and had actual strong reliable relationships. When i was sick, I had people physically come see me. But now all I get is an emoji and get well soon. Its awkward amd lonely this side.

It got to a point where I follow 3x more profiles of people and companies that don't even know I exist, and to think that I met some relatives that I didn't even know I had through my network of friends that I had with my family when Facebook first started. Now I see countless posts and advertisements until I actually see a photo of a friend or acquaintance; when we stop to think about it We realize how absurd all of this is.

I pay an absurd $20 a month for KZbin and so far it’s made me a purple belt as an artist, a menace with rap, and has expanded my knowledge on subjects I would’ve never given a second thought towards. Most importantly it brings me to videos like these that help me improve my life by seeing that their even is a problem
@seancarterx6 ай бұрын
This is why KZbin is the one social media I can’t even imagine myself deleting. As a generalist who is interested in many subjects, it’s honestly one of the greatest education tools ever created. Shorts are the problem

I have been trying to reduce my screen time for Social Media, and by the way it is designed, and how addicted it has been, has been the hardest thing for me to change, but after a semester, I can go a whole few days without going on my phone no problem. Now working on helping my younger siblings reduce their screen consumption which has been even harder
@pakshaal_jain11 ай бұрын
That's great, can you share some tips
@shintyty8 ай бұрын
@@pakshaal_jain Yes of course! I have tried many things, but it was alwasy difficult to improve past a certain point. I think removing what you don't need from your phone is good, but what I learned from a phychology video is that your environment always wins no matter your intentions over time. An analogy would be like even if you want to be warm and wear jackets, if you live in a freezer, you will eventually become cold. I find that it is similar with social media, and so for me the best thing to do was to set your environment the best you are set up for success. For example, when you don't need to use your phone, you can put it out of sight and reach, so you are no longer using will power to avoid it, or you can take the leap and sometimes go on with your day leaving your phone behind if you can do that. I found it the easiest way to become less addicted, and there are lots of things on your phone that you could transfer onto maybe like an tablet if you have one. But at first I felt so much fear going anywhere without my phone, but now I feel at peace and I don't think about my phone anymore which I love. Now I usually carry a notebook in my pocket most of the time instead most the times.

I think there also needs to be a shift in jobs wanting to get a hold of us after our work hours. That’s not to say we HAVE to answer work emails or texts after hours, but the feeling of being obligated to answer is there because it’s our “job”.
