Aaron Clay same I also am considering a gap year or perhaps come back during the fall, I'm a second quarter culinary arts student in community college and cried when I heard what the word break from college / gap year was and wished I found out about it when I was a senior in high school. I've thought of not being with people I'm around with but does it matter? You'll meet different people and you're going to be on your own. I want personal growth and happiness instead of being in school my whole life and am not very dedicated in changing myself to have better grades however I'll do my best and do it.. instead of saying.

@@jxlim4613 It could be, but.. When I open my couchserfing page, I see that somebody wants to visit my city and I can help them with money, place and food. Imagining how travellers would have to speak foreigner language with somebody, how hard it could be to find place and maybe food. So you can help them. Indeed. I want to go and do this, and it’s easy for many of us including myself to leave comments saying we will ‘now go out and try and explore the world’. But honestly how many of us will end up just forgetting about it or letting the easy route come to us instead and not bother at all, making all of our words hollow. I’m really scared that this will be the case for me. I’m trying to say yes a lot more than I used to, but when it comes to things that require a lot of money, longer working hours or possible language barriers, it really is easy to become demoralised and just let it sink into the back of your mind and continue on as usual, only for that feeling to repeat again a few weeks, months or years later. I only hope I can do even a little bit of this while I can. What will really happy, only time will tell for all of us.

Old person here.......who can in fact confirm this. And it's really depressing when it hits you that you had one life, one shot and you wasted it. Wasted it out of fear of what other's might think of you, of failing, of being wrong, of being alone or from letting others talk you out of it and the mistake of always thinking there will be more time. And it hits really hard when you see other people living the life that you could have.

Hmm, yeah to a certain degree. It is risky and unpredictable for everyone though, it’s just a matter of weighing the risk against the possibility of adventure. No one can tell you exactly how dangerous it will be and it’s a very personal choice you have to make before you go on an adventure like this. But I don’t agree that you “can’t do this” as a woman, yeah maybe some things are more risky as a woman, but to be honest I wouldn’t sleep in a park as a man either. You can still find a way to have an adventure, where it’s worth the risk for you. My point is, being a woman is one factor of many in a very complex equation, if you wanna go on an adventure, just find something you’re comfortable with, if it means traveling with a friend, traveling a bit more expensively to sleep in hostels instead of on the street etc. there’s lots of ways to still have an adventure.

Its all about finding the balance thats right for you, you cant have one side without the other, it just wont work. Tomislav is absolutely right about everything! Last Summer I spent 3 months cycling across all of Europe. It was such a joy, people were so awesome, I made good friends, and I have so many amazing stories. When I got home everyone was excited and for 2-3 weeks I told friends my stories, but pretty soon they get tired of your stories. When I travel I feel alive, I feel like a rock star. When I am home I feel like a everyday schmo. Just another face in the crowd. For me there was some post travel depression. I did NOT expect that at all! It was only when I began planning for my next adventure that I began to feel alive again. I learned a lot from my trip. I learned that I can live without a TON of stuff. I realised I come back here every few years, for no apparent reason. The first time I stumbled across this video, travel was light years distant to a kid who didn't even own a passport. The next few times, I could leap into nearby yet unknown territories, thanks to being in a gigantic country with diverse culture and experiences. Now, as I see this, I am 24, and someone who travelled 11 countries in the last 2 years, half of them completely solo, and taking away incredible memories and inspiring friends along the way. I realise that this talk by Tomislav Perko could just be one of the bigger pebbles that rolled into a profound passion for travel. Thank you very much.

In the 60's I hitchhiked across Canada and the USA, then around Europe, then overland to India, then through East, Central, and South Africa, then motorcycle from Canada to Panama and back, then Kombi van working around Australia. Chance meetings along the way led to a career in the oil exploration business that kept me travelling from New Guinea to the North Sea and from Alaska to the Amazon, now settled in Australia. That was before the days of couch surfing or even packpacker hostels, so slept real rough most of the time. Never had any problems with safety. What a fantastic experience! Hardest part is to start out, then just keep going and it'll get easier and you'll get somewhere. I feel so sorry for females cause it's so much more difficult and constantly on guard cause so many men get stupid ideas when they find a lone female hitchhiking, so need to couple with a male partner..... It's heartening to hear that he can still do that style of travel these days. His tips and guide to hitchhiking technique are spot on. You need to open the gregarious and entertaining side of your self and it brings the same from others wherever you go. Go for it!

Hi Elana! I am 64 but bad back problem and can't stand in front of a class without soon my back hurting a lot. Can you teach sitting and standing often? Don't you have to be teaching certified before you go? I'm going to be surviving on my $683 a month social security by going to ATM machines. Can I do all you mention on that amount? As an American you went to places like Iran and all was okay? I hope to travel all over the world but wonder if customs in various countries want to know how much money you're traveling on, and if you have a means to return to your country, like a universal airline ticket of some kind. Is that true? If I like a place I might live there for a long time, or even maybe not ever return "home" again to the US. I don't own anything, just a few things to store maybe with a friend, about 3 or 4 plastic totes full plus my bike and my guitar and banjo, then leave. Thanks for your encouraging comments.

But now my mind changed, i'm ready to stop my studies because i hate it, and I'm completely ready to quit everything to travel the world. I'm super motivated, and I'm gonna do it in 2022. Before my departure, I'm getting ready : in my mind, in my family's mind, and I want to save a bit of money for visas. @@Abdulazizqazi_0 I would like that! I love visiting anywhere in the Islamic world. Turkey is a favorite, and will be seeing Morocco soon, I was delayed by covid.

I want to do this, but I don’t know how to find anyone willing to let me couch surf, feed me, etc. how do you do it so easily?
@michaelf7093 Жыл бұрын
@@cruz5613 food is easy. Street food is cheap almost everywhere I occasionally crash at friends houses, but usually I stay at hostels. In summer I sometimes camp. It's plane tickets that are expensive.

After 35 years of traveling, I can identify very well with coming home, and feeling that no one can identify with who you are or where you have been. I have never gotten used to trying to explain somewhere. I have been to, someone who has never been anywhere. The eyes glaze over and they just phase out. The only time that all changes is when I cross paths with another has traveled as I have done.

I'm Indian and I can, with confidence, tell you this: Either a. Earth has two India's. Or b. Either you, or I, have somehow managed to establish successful communication across not-so-parallel realities. Either way, one thing is certain. The India you live in and the India I live in are COMPLETELY different.

the way I see it, 20 years is still gonna pass regardless, so you can spend those 20 years not doing anything and regret everything, or do everything and regret nothing.
