I’ve tried for 12 years to get help for my son with severe OCD/PTSD that has ruined his life. He’s a pilot. He’s a brilliant student and historian. There’s is no help. It’s tragic. I can only pray. We never know what he will do next. I ha e trusted him to God. I know God loves him the most. I will never give up but there is no help in this country for mental illness. Isn’t it hard to believe? We can cure all kinds of things yet e can provide Carly quality care for those hurting the most. Thank you fir sharing. I’m so sorry for the struggle you endured. You are a blessing.

I have bipolar and I live in a small island in which mental illness is not accepted. I've spent 3 yrs. as a professor at a college and while there, I tell everyone about my illness to show that someone who is sick doesn't have to be shunned away.

Addressing these issues will never be met as long as our leaders continue to bomb the holy shit out of everyone i.e., those seen as the opposition, and by creating evermore false enemies, e.g., terrorists whom they also created known as fighting the previous enemy, Communist terrorism, of which the US is the largest purveyor, terorism itself as well as their support for the rogue state of Zionists, the squatter state within Palestine. Peace is love, being kind, and until soldiers gather themselves as one and act peacefully, that is to love, and be kind to all they know, throwing down their war weapons, and truly acting out of a sense of peace, the seeking of power will continuie by these psychopathic leaders of whom the current rogue list slew of aholes that began by Kissmyassinger.

Mental Health should be for everyone to share their issues and problems worldwide. I believe All this Privacy rubbish (I am saying this as it is), does NOT work and people who are genuinely have mental health issues, please come forward and share your stories or similar issues that you are facing at your home. I would like to be on one of these TEDX, speakers myself. I do want to do this so that others don't have to feel ashamed or feel that sharing your story will somehow, that you feel abandoned or alone in this fight of mental health. I am wanting to come forward this year because NO ONE in this world should have to suffer MENTAL HEALTH alone and should be encouraged to ALL families alike who are facing difficulties in the way of MENTAL HEALTH on this planet. Matt

Ironically long-term outcome of people with schizophrenia is much better in India than in the US according to the repeated researches conducted by World Health Organization. Perhaps having access to mental health "services" isn't such a good thing for people with schizophrenia.

Becoming trauma informed goes a lot further in helping an individual that is suffering with emotional disturbances than merely pointing out the obvious, oh look they are out of their minds again, they are ranting and raving, move away from me. By focusing solely on a mental illness diagnosis completely invalidates one’s personal experience (your feelings or the reason they arise is irrelevant), conveying hopelessness (you’ll never recover from this, you are now officially disabled for life), and giving drugs that exacerbate or even help create feelings of suicidal or homicidal intent. If you tried to increase the suicide rate, you’d be hard pressed to come up with a better plan. Families and therapists need to be brave, have some courage and back track to see the precursors if they are actually going to help a loved one begin to heal. The epidemic starts there, stop stigmatizing the truth of their suffering, identify and acknowledge the abuse, betrayal, neglect, exploitation, abandonment, ‘their lived experiences’ as that always proceeds the diagnosis. Yes, a few lucky ones in a family get out unscathed but there is always one that fails to free themselves and heal. That is who we need to partner with and provide every opportunity to heal and not wait until they are completely dysfunctional where we have this campaign to stop stigma. Stop the stigma from allowing the sordid details of their lives from being fully known. Stop the stigma from listening. Otherwise you are only protecting yourself from the truth. How painful and confusing do you think that is for a teenager to be called out as the mental patient when the adults are too weak to change their own ways. Perhaps the high percentage of teenage depression and anxiety is really a reflection of the adults in their lives.

About MISSD (The Medication-Induced Suicide Prevention and Education Foundation in Memory of Stewart Dolin) is a unique non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the memory of Stewart and other victims of akathisia by raising awareness and educating the public about the dangers of akathisia. MISSD aims to ensure that people suffering from akathisia's symptoms are accurately diagnosed so that needless deaths are prevented. A website, the creation of educational materials and support of conferences such as Selling Sickness, will help to raise awareness and knowledge of akathisia and medication-induced suicides. Again, we feel it's important to note that we are not anti-drug, and recognize that prescription drugs can be positive and life-saving for many individuals. We are for truth in disclosure, honesty in reporting and legitimate drug trials. If this could happen to Mr. Dolin, then it could happen to anyone. MISSD will make a difference.

If your dad had schizophrenia then you are VERY lucky that you don't have it. Although you will be carrying it and can pass it on to your children. Be careful thinking about having kids.

+Gaius Caerulius Verus Allectus Actually genetics are just one of the many possible factors involved in developing schizophrenia. All they know is that you have slightly higher risk of developing it if one of your parents suffers from it . There's still no way to predict if someone will develop this mentall ilness because they know very little about the genetics involved . There's no conclusive evidence to what exactly causes schizophrenia. The idea that it's passed on from generation to generation by genetics is not quite accurate. It's more complex than that because there seem to be many different factors involved.

@1:51 So... Basically Delaney is saying (to me) that it's GOOD that my mentally ill friend was put in an ambulance and driven 2 hours away to be locked up in a mental hospital. Maybe... My fiend seems to have gotten stuck in this idea that family and friends (including me...) have put a curse on her, and that's why my friend thinks she is locked up... ... A CURSE... So she keeps calling me (they gave her access to a phone for some reason... ) Anyways, I guess I had better learn to block this number... IMHO

India makes tall claims about spirituality, even communists but they fail to recognize that mind and mental health is related to spirituality though the therapist maybe a psychiatrist. Our culture needs to understand mental health is not separate from spiritual health.
